He's so kind, so honest, and has this pure integrity that you rarely see in a person. He's also one of the greatest poets ever. I usually would say something like "The Cure is arguably the best rock band of all time." But i'm starting to think it isn't arguable anymore.

Robert Smith is the only celebrity that has appeared in South Park and wasn't mocked - instead, he was the hero of the episode. He is a great geezer.

I've listened to The Cure since I bought the Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me cassette in 1987. I saw it on the shelf in the mall music store while on an out of town high school choir trip. I bought it because I liked the artwork. I'd never heard of The Cure before in my small Texas town, and Kiss Me sent me down a rabbit hole and beyond. My first Cure concert was the Disintegration Tour at the Starplex Amphitheatre in Dallas, TX in 1989. Ah, such memories. Every Cure song takes me back to a special moment in my life that I will cherish forever. Thank you, Robert Smith!

Great story. My late older brother bought Kiss Me Kiss Me on cassette. I remember when he brought it home it was a long cardboard box that the cassette came in. It was like how the cds use to come in boxes. I’ve never seen cassettes come in like that.

He can't be anyone but himself, and at 45, I still look up to him as a role model for being authentic and sincere even when I feel like I should hide.

Robert Smith always was and still is a very genuine, down-to-earth, modest man who has deserved every shred of success in his career. No arrogance just talent. He has my respect anyway. Smith is still married (since 1988) to his wife for whom he wrote the song ‘Love Song’as a wedding present.

isnt it funny, that was my thought too. for a terrible communicator i always thought he kind of hit it on the head what i was thinking and felt when i was a kid in the early 80's, and how i wished i could communicate some of the things he said in his songs to some of the people in my life at the time. Now in my 50's i've tried a lot harder to be this free. it's not such a bad way to be. I'll credit him a good bit for that. If he can do it why cant i?

I really think they're the greatest rock band of all time. That it's always arguable to me with most great bands. But The Cure? 17 Seconds? Faith? Pornography? Freaking Wish?!! Paris, which is one of the three or four truly amazing live albums, like, ever made, alongside(well, better than, actually) say, Kiss Alive or Nirvana Unplugged?? Man, they're the one.

I’m 23 years old and my dad who is in his 50s has been a die hard The Cure fan since he was in high school and college. This past weekend I had the honor of going to a Cure concert with him. I was blown away. Not only at the raw talent that Robert and the rest of the band have, but I was also blown away at the music and lyrical influence that Robert has had on some of my favorite artists. His emotional songs with eerie guitar rifts made me think of Kid Cudi as well as many other artists I’ve listened to while growing up. This dude and the band have influenced music in general more than they probably understand. An absolute legend.

That’s awesome! So happy you got to experience one of the greatest bands on the planet with your Dad. I took my younger brother to their Wish tour way back in 1992. He still talks about it. It was a wonderful bonding experience. I saw them a few days ago and my goodness, the show was gorgeous and beautiful. They really are one of the best 🥰🥰

Same here! Summer camp ... 1992 ... or 1991. Too long ago to pinpoint, but I'm there with you. They changed a LOT of lives! And you can never be too dramatic for fellow Cure fans. You're in a safe space!

I saw the cure live and Robert had a cold that night. The was a little raspy, but still sounded amazing. He sincerely apologized repeatedly throughout almost a 2 hr concert. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. The Cure are legends.

First time I saw him (Head On The Door Tour), I heard that he had the flu. Even if he wasn't sick to that extent, he was clearly not doing well. That didn't stop him from delivering a spectacular performance that night.

Robert is so wonderfully awkward and self conscious of it. It showed a lot of courage for him to speak from the heart like that.

Still a classy man with a classy band. I especially liked that he mentioned the deceased Andy Anderson, one of the several drummers who played with The Cure. Robert Smith and The Cure deserve all the accolades and recognition that they get.

A man who knows exactly who and what he is and portrays himself so perfectly -Long live Robert !

As a GenXer, I feel that we were truly privileged in our youth with the best musicians and so much variety and artistic talent to choose from.

​@@lessismore8533 It wasn't an easy time in the UK, you could get beaten up just going to the shops for looking different. The music is what made it worth it. Never saw The Cure but saw Bob with the Banshees, another bunch who loved their fans.

From Heavy Metal, to Goth, to New Wave, and Hip Hop, I loved and still do, it all. Sprinkle in a little Asia, Tom Petty & Eddie Money, and I’m a happy gal. (Oh no. Did I say, gal? Oof. I’m old.) lol

This man is a real rockstar in my mind. A true artist, sincere, smart, different, humble, mysterious, etc. Most of the other people from the 80s who were referred to as rockstars were just morons. This guy was the real deal.

They were basically the main stream that brought out the Goth scene. Their music is still being played by young kids 40yrs later. One of my favorite bands of all time. No one else sounds like them.

I listen to the cure but i had no idea robert was so adorable 😭

The Cure calling Trent Reznor a great artist not only made Trent happy but almost made me tear. To look up to someone growing up and be on stage with them getting complimented must be surreal.

Robert is as genuine as it gets..no sales pitch..no narcissism..just a wholesome individual that doesn't mask his identity! I've been a long time fan of the cure and am very pleased to see them merritt the recognition (RRHF) that they so deserve. Outstanding acceptance speech Robert!

I graduated HS in 90 and during the 80's I was never into the Cure but as I got older I realized they definitely should have been in my top favorites. Such a talented band.

Robert Smith: We will always love you. Amazing and legendary artist and vocalist.

One thing I noticed was if you were to see Mary Poole she is wearing a hair clip in her hair, Robert has the other in his hair as to carry her with him. Very cool 30 plus years of being in love and an inspiration to him. I watch this to humble myself.

Robert Smith is class act 100%. Great band with countless amazing songs. Real talent and amazing song writing.

I can’t pretend that I’ve like their music for years because to be honest it just doesn’t connect with me. But as a person you just can’t help but admire how thoroughly decent this fella is. No rockstar tantrums, no histrionics, no fuss. Just a lovely guy who loves the thing he does.

If you google the pictures of this night you will see Roberts wife Mary is wearing the same hair clip as Robert. So sweet!!

The Cure has a way to get in your heart when you listen to them and watching and hearing Robert talk makes you understand why

I saw the Cure at the Universal Amphitheatre, ~Hollywood and after the concert he came outside to sign autographs. What a surprise. So very nice and didn't rush his fan. Congratulations.

Robert is in such cultural clash with the audience at that very moment.

just my opinion: Robert Smith is forced, he completely looks as someone who wants retire.

Very few bands have mastered connecting the artistry of: lyrics, vocals, instruments, musical moods, mystique, story-telling, and sounds, into unique, memorable, beautiful songs. You’ve had me smiling for years. How ever far away...How ever long I stay...What ever words I say, I will always love the Cure.

Who doesn't love The Cure? Robert is so freeking sweet and shy and I just adore him💕

Depeche Mode and The Cure... Not too many others can say that they made music for over 40 years and still are perfect at what they do... Love it! And although the is the MOMENTO MORI moment for all of us, let's celebrate and enjoy what we have and go and listen to THE CURE and DEPECHE MODE!.............

"I'm not a very good communicator." I'm right there with you Robert. Extremely shy myself. I love what he said about Simon and Andy Anderson. Very thoughtful. The Cure really earned to be inducted. Iconic and yet true to who they are. The music has been poignant and stunning throughout the years.

Saw the Cure in Frankfurt Germany 1987. I still have the t shirt. Thanks for the decades of great music and memories.

Growing up in rural Texas in the 80's... our weekends consisted of an all night party with The Cure blasting til 3am!! Thank you Robert Smith! Fast fwd 2023 had the pleasure to attend their latest concert with my 4 kids...long live The Cure!

The cure deserves to be in the rock and roll hall of fame 😍

I'm so glad the whole Cure lineup reunited in 2019 for the induction, especially before the pandemic happened. Depeche Mode were not so lucky in 2020, since they were not able to accept their honor in person, and sadly it was the last time we would see Andy Fletcher in public. If they had been inducted the year before, we could've had a last DM performance with Andy..

The Cure, one of the best bands to have ever existed on any plane of existence. ✨✨✨✨

In an interview with Robert (many years ago) he said the band wants to give the best performance they can every night because that may be the only opportunity a fan will have to be there, so they truly do it for their audience.

I wouldn't say Robert Smith is weird or strange. He is just more comfortable performing on stage, than giving speeches and being the centre of attention like that. He is clearly very humble for getting the award and maybe feels slightly awkward about the accolade, even though it is very much deserved. Well done to the band.

Such a unique sound Robert Smith had I don’t think can ever be created again. ❤️

To me The Cure are probably one of the most important bands of my life. Like many fans their music speaks to me on such a deep personal, emotional & psychological level. I think it’s helped me to be a more emotional intelligent and aware person, not just to myself but to others. I don’t think there’s many bands whose music covers across the wide spectrum of emotions. From darkest depths of doom, anger, anxiety, isolation & hopelessness to depression, regret and loneliness, loss, unrequited love to bubbling excitement, joy, fun and happiness. Their music is so cathartic, I don’t think I could have survived my teens and young adult years without their music to vicariously express and guide my emotions. Thank You Robert.
