WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

You notice how Kevin's mind works. When the 2 hosts brought up logical, reasoned arguments instead of Kevin processing them and responding to them he just went on to the next point. Kevin lives in his little world and his tiny, pea brain only allows thoughts to register if they serve his emotional needs. Doesn't matter about truth and objectivity.

Battle of wits with an atheist😂. Atheists are people who don't have the ability or willingness to accept God. But the vast majority of them like Max don't even believe the origins of Life came into existence without God. So they want you to convince them that God exists something they don't have the willingness or ability to accept and at the same time they don't actually believe the origins of Life came into existence without God LOL that's not a debate that's not an argument that's ridiculous.

There's no point in soft-soaping the message ... that apostrophe is wrong, it should not be there, and you have no logical basis on which to justify it. You're merely indicating a plurality of callers, not referring to some instance of the callers' possessions. In that case, the apostrophe _is_ needed to distinguish between a singularity and a plurality of callers, which cannot be done by the 's' alone. In other words the apostrophe is not used for the genitive case, but it is needed to clarify plurality in the possesive case. I.e., The caller's views revealed his ignorance Vs The callers' views were indicative of systemic failures in the American public education system. Capisco? See, I'm not saying anything controversial here, it's just a goddamn empirical fact. Do you know what empirical facts are? Because you're wrong! _That_ is an empirical fact. So, I need you to go away, look deep inside yourself, and THINK about what I've told you; and I don't want to see you again, unless and until you are able to acknowledge that I am 100% correct, and you have learnt a valuable lesson through being humiliated by me in this way, for the entertainment of onlookers. So shut, I said SHUT UP! I'm ending this call now, so that I can receive the applause of my audience. Good bye.

@@Ozymandi_as Wtaf, pal? So, OK, you're right, the apostrophe is incorrect. And, thank you for pointing it out. But it doesn't require such an aggressive explanation. Nor does it require so many paragraphs - I understand proper uses. It was an error on my part. I don't remember ever claiming my comments would be perfect. I suppose you've never made a grammatical error, even once, online? (I suspect that I changed the sentence structure and then forgot to delete the apostrophe - it happens, online especially. I wouldn't submit an academic paper with such an error, because I proofread papers, but I don't exhaustively proofread online YT comments. Or, did someone just step on your foot? When I take psychedelics I can't even watch these videos or the news, the rampant egotism is unbearable. Theists are raging egomaniacs who think they are 'in the know' and are in contact with the maker of all things. Pot makes the ego look ugly. Psychedelics , even moreso . hell, don't even blame METH. i abused meth for four years, in the 90s. i was never a christian or a theist during that time. sure, i had some wild delusions, but jesus wasn't one of them. jesus seemed absurd compared to my meth delusions. i hope this helps. don't blame the drugs.

I just wish shows like talking in an atheist experience would have hosts that believed the origins of Life came into existence without God this way there could be some kind of argument. @@HumanismIsSatanic-rt1gu I need a little bit of clarification before I attempt to respond to the bulk of your comment. I want to make sure I'm not responding to some thing you didn't mean. Are you asking for the host to make a positive assertion that "the origins of life came into existence without God"? Alternatively is "I am not convinced that the origins of life came into existence by a god?" good enough? (sidenote, I don't like the structure of those sentences. I think that you can cut out "the origin of" and the sentence makes more sense.) I ask because the first one is a positive claim that requires evidence to support it. The second is a rejection of a claim (usually due to lack of evidence). most of the hosts on the ACA shows will carefully reject claims without necessarily taking the opposite claim. This is the intellectually honest position to take if you do not see that there is sufficient evidence to support a particular claim. One does not need to take the opposite claim to point out the problems with a particular claim. For example, I do not believe that the Loch Ness monster exists. I am not asserting that it definitely does not exist, but rather I am stating that I am not convinced that it does. Those are not the same thing. Anyway, I hope that makes my comment makes sense. Let me know what you think and I'll be glad to continue the conversation if you are interested .

@@HumanismIsSatanic-rt1gu It could just as easily be argued, "Here you have atheist host who don't have the willingness or ability to accept Tinkerbell." Neither willingness nor ability is part of the equation. Atheists do not accept belief in anything they don't have any evidence to believe in. *"they don't actually believe the origins of Life came into existence without God"* I've never heard an atheist say this. Since an atheist does not believe in god, why would they believe life couldn't have come into existence without god?

So, apparently, God did not want mankind to know good from bad, right from wrong. So, why do you look to that God for your morality? The only difference between cult and religion is the number of followers. As a consequence I've also become anti-religious as I'm completely exhausted seeing all the harm to society in general because of the BS. More people have been killed in the name of some stupid 'god' than ALL OTHER reasons combined. Until we set aside the stupidity of religion, we will not be able to move forward as a species.

I was also raised a catholic and as a kid in church, I couldn't wrap my mind around what all this was. How come none of these gods ever come around anymore. These miracle things seem really cool, but they just don't happen anymore. Huh? And all I ever got in return was that my faith needed strengthening. The problem was me?? It's very hard to debate ignorant host who don't have the ability or willingness to accept God but at the same time they don't actually believe the origins of Life came into existence without God😂. Why is it so difficult for callers to understand when the hosts ask for independant evidence. Meaning they want evidence for the claims made in the bible that is not any scripture written from the bible. For the very reason we demand evidence is for a way to determine that anything that was written in any book is factually correct. Otherwise, anyone could pick up any book or text and claim its factually correct.

Our Earthly home is full of eats, treats, chefs, gourmet meals, adventures, excitement, vocations, vacations, cars, planes, trains, people, beaches, swimming pools, diving exhibitions, tennis courts, basketball courts, football fields, boxing rings, fashion shows, beauty pageants, museums, libraries, movie theaters, circuses, trapeze artists, trampoline artists, lion tamers, galloping horses, nature walks, bird sanctuaries, safaris, big game hunting, whale watching. It always baffles me how theist callers, many who claim they have been listening to the show for years, come completely unprepared, unable or unwilling to engage with the hosts in the way they ask, which is having an honest back and forth conversation and answering questions. This seems pretty simple to me.

In nature, there have been frogs that gave birth through their mouths!! The gastric-brooding frogs of the genus Rheobatrachus, specifically Rheobatrachus silus and Rheobatrachus vitellinus, had a unique reproductive method where the female swallowed her fertilized eggs. The eggs hatched as tadpoles in her stomach and grew until they became full-size frogs-and then the mother regurgitated them. These frogs went extinct in the 1980s, but scientists are attempting to bring them back to life using a method of cloning called somatic cell nuclear transfer. Who doesn’t love the idea of mouth-birthing Frankenstein frogs?

Reformation changed that, but officially Bible was a forbidden book well into XIX century.

To the caller is super confused, lol, but to be fair, there are now kind of two very distinct definitions of empirical. It's not just about observable, testable evidence that can be attested by a second, independent source, but this word has been used a lot to mean "based on your own life experiences", rather than "based on testable experiments". That's a shame, because people think that their dreams and feelings and thoughts are empirical in the original sense...

Sometimes reading a really engaging novel is "better" than remembering that you've only got a few weeks to live. That is, it FEELS better. That's not the same as it IS better. Maybe you have dependents whose care you will only have time to arrange if you put down the novel. Wouldn't that be BETTER? Or are your feelings more important than them, than reality? It's a simple question. Why work so hard to avoid it?
