Also, according to the Bible, there were millions of people. Millions living in tents would still leave evidence. Millions wandering a relatively small contained area, even changing locations frequently, would leave behind trash & broken pottery & burial sites. All of which disappears if God wants it to disappear. Perhaps god miracle-d all the evidence away, like he did with the flood.

His epistemology is simply to add more & more claims and calling those “better tools.” Except the discussion was about HOW one determines truth. Exactly! Xianity was obligatory in western civilization for over a 1,000 years, often under punishment of death or torture. But even under the worst non religious regimes, in repressive countries where practicing religion might get thrown in prison, I’ve never heard of any place where not being an atheist was a capital offense. It is a better argument though a faulty one that if a book is massively popular it IS a work of fiction. Almost all 50 million and up selling books are works of fiction with a self help book exception. It doesn't mean truth certainly. There is however a pretty strong showing for popular inclinations and interests.

Scientists have calculated that if all water on Earth were liquified (polar ice caps melted, mountain snow and ice melted, Greenland Ice melted, all atmospheric clouds and water vapor condensed, etc.), the global sea level would rise by about 250 feet. Not exactly a global flood. Sure, all coastal cities would be destroyed. But at 300’ elevation, good old Fresno would almost become oceanside property!

When my wife, our young daughters and I travel, our accommodation is organised through the travel department of my mother in law’s company. It’s a condition of their contract that there is no bible or religious material in any room booked by the company. In the event any is found, the accommodation charge for that night is waived. When our girls were very young, they eagerly searched the rooms for bibles, hoping to earn themselves a €20 finder’s fee per room.

There are many more atheists in the world than there are christians. Strongly secular countries such as Norway, Denmark and Switzerland are much less dysfunctional than the much more religious US or UK. Each of them has enormously lower crime rates than the religious country and each of them is strongly socially cohesive, unlike the deeply divided US or UK. In common with most people we know, my wife and I have never touched a bible, far less read the deep primitive ignorance contained within it. It promotes hatred, violence, ignorance, intolerance and bigotry. We were protected from it when we were schoolgirls. Some 30 years ago, it was a crime for a teacher to expose us to a bible in our school, just as today it would be a crime for a teacher to expose our 11 year old daughters to it. Rob clearly needs to read more widely and travel more than he does. It would be a safe bet that nobody has ever accused Rob of being remotely bright.

There are still more “christians” than atheists. Like everywhere, the sheer nonsense of christianity sees it in substantial decline. I have no idea what makes an atheist “avowed” but my family and I are atheist because we don’t know of any substantive evidence for the existence of gods. That’s all being an atheist is. It tells you nothing more about us than that we hold that basic belief. My wife, our young daughters and I each holds citizenship of 7 nations and can live in each of them without religion raising its ugly head. Some 91% of Chinese are atheist, giving us some 1.3 billion for openers. Japan, at 89% atheist adds another 100 million or so. Several significant countries are around 70% atheist, including my own, thankfully. Over 60% atheist includes the likes of Germany, Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam, Canada and Spain. Even the deeply dysfunctional U.S. adds about 150 million to the number. India adds several million more

If we're going to call out theists for their circular arguments, we need to call out gender ideology for the same reasons. "A woman is anyone who identifies as a woman" is not any different from this "The Bible is true because the Bible says it is true" nonsense. Are you dedicated to the truth or are you not? This has implications, too, because a clever theist (or a more honest atheist) could use this against you. If you're not consistent in your search for the truth, but only in certain areas, it lends credence to that stupid claim of "You're just mad at (the concept of) God and want to sin."

If it were, then why don't we do that for eating disorders? "Yes, you ARE fat even though you are skinny. Anorexia/bulimia is good for you. No problems here." This would be absurd, yet that's precisely how we're currently treating those with gender dysphoria.
