WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Not because they have been brainwashed with all that supernatural nonsense of ANY religion, or because they like the idea that there is an imaginary skydaddy that takes care of them or because they like the idea that there is an imaginary afterlife! Anyway, science and especially evolution have already debunked the crux of christianity and the crux of all the other religions I know of ages ago. We may have difference of opinion... For religious organizations, they should not receive government money. Period. No tax dodges, no risk free loans, none of the "government benefits" they currently enjoy. I also belive that all "societal boons" should be removed, just because someone is a priest, doesn't mean "oh they would never touch a child, they are a man of god". If a church, religious leader commits a crime, they are not to be treated differently. And... I think that's about it... they should be properly taxed on that property holdings, like every other organization... um... hmmm I think that's it. Is that "me wanting to cripple them", I don't think so. Would that in effect cripple them? Yeah, probably, they are fricking scams, relying on the gullability of the masses, and the tax deductions. At least a lot of the worst churches...

    Asking the question "is it possible for a creator god to exist?" is basically begging the question, and demanding a "yes/no" answer that it isn't possible to provide honestly, because the only honest answer is "I don't know." All atheists can claim is they don't have enough reliable evidence to convince them that any of the postulated or claimed gods are real.

  • @starfishsystems

    Moreover, a perfectly reasonable answer is that, no, it's NOT POSSIBLE for a creator god to exist. Because if that WERE possible, then it would also be possible for a creator of that creator to exist, and so on and infinitum. It would be better to ask whether it's possible that a creator god does NOT exist. And here the answer is yes. Reality could simply exist without some hypothetical intelligence operating behind the scenes. Until we encounter some evidence that a creator god is somehow necessary, it remains entirely possible that it isn't necessary. And we have found no such evidence.

  • @sugartoothYT
    @sugartoothYTАй бұрын

    When pushed to make claims of "is it possible or impossible that a creator god exists" I would posit: "I have no reason to believe in its possibility." Now that'll obviously be responded to with "so do you think it's impossible", but the question is flawed. Sure, there is that point in reasoning, the same that can't solve hard solipsism, where we cannot claim things in our reason to be true; if you raise the standards to that level in a conversation it's most likely impossible to claim ANYTHING to be impossible. Can you truly claim it's impossible for the moon to be made of cheese? Have you been there? Can you without a doubt show a piece of the moon that is non-cheese? I can't, even the moon rock taken by the astronauts can be a lie. Fairies "can" be real, me being birthed by a man "can" be real, but none of them are reasonable to believe in. So forfeiting creator god being "possible" is a vacuous statement, it only holds value as a soundbite to be used dishonestly in god-belief's favor or mock people for the black swan-fallacy if they say it's impossible. It is a dishonest gotcha-question.
