The Anti-Aging MIRACLE - 4 Tips to Activate Autophagy

A complete guide to autophagy: your body's most powerful anti-aging tool!
www.naomiwhittel.com/benefits...
Autophagy. It's a word most of us have never heard of, much less know how to pronounce. For starters, it’s pronounced aw-taw-fuh-gee, quite a mouthful, but it’s so important that you understand this crucial part of your well-being and how to activate it, even if you can’t pronounce it!
In this video I explain how autophagy is scientifically proven to slow the appearance of aging by killing off damaged cells which are created by natural stressors. I was lucky enough to be granted interviews with the Nobel Prize winning Dr. Yoshinori Oshumi as well as Dr. William Dunn, in which they told me about their life changing research surrounding autophagy, I’ve linked both videos below! More importantly, I’ll be explaining how to activate it.
1. The Keto Diet: When on the ketogenic diet our bodies will begin to induce autophagy in a way similar to that which occurs while fasting. As your body shifts from being glucose-dependent to fat-dependent, autophagy allows the body to maintain energy homeostasis and create benefits from the starvation as opposed to detriments.
2. Intermittent Fasting: While we fast, our cells enter a phase where they literally digest themselves to recycle and reuse the good while discarding the bad. If we constantly eat throughout the day, it doesn’t give our cells a chance to repair and clean up the waste and toxins that have accumulated.
3. Exercise:Exercise creates microtears and inflamed muscle tissue which activates the autophagic process to repair and optimize the muscles. However, acute exercise may do more damage than good, so exercise in moderation is more efficient.
4. Sleeping. The sleep is the easiest and most enjoyable way of activating autophagy, simply because it requires no sacrifice or effort. However, miraculous things are going on inside our bodies that we are not even aware of. This is one of my favorite ways to activate autophagy :)
I hope you enjoyed this video! If you’re interested in learning more about autophagy, your body’s most powerful anti-aging tool, make sure to check out my book Glow15 which goes over everything you need to know about the topic. I also have so many videos and blogs on autophagy which I’ve linked below.
Thanks for watching and I look forward to sharing more exciting content in the future on all things happy, healthy, insightful, and informative.

Very informative, Naomi. Thank you! I am a 69-year-old male. I quit alcohol several years ago, and I quit coffee 6 months ago. Now I have gone zero carb for 2 weeks. I only eat sardines, beef, and pork, and I only drink water. In the past, along with alcohol and coffee, I have quit smoking and cocaine use. I have to say, quitting carbs has been the most difficult for me. But so far so good after 2 weeks. I work out to total fatigue then partial reps to failure with high quality, layered latex bands 6 days per week and I've just started jump roping. Six years ago, I found myself at 247 lbs. I went on a ketogenic diet and dropped to 184 in about 6 months. But now I have this stubborn belly fat and love handles I am trying to get rid of. That's the biggest reason I went total carnivore. But I haven't tried intermittent fasting yet. I'm certain I can do the Noon to 8:00 pm window which results in a 16-hour fast every day. Thank you for that suggestion. I will start implementing it at 8:00 pm this evening and see how it goes. Hopefully I'm on the right track!

Wow... I'm a 55 yr old male. Have tinkered with a 5-2 intermittent fasting diet for 10 years. Good but tough... always hungry and never really got the best results. 3 months ago I went on a keto diet AND daily fasting by starting a 6 hour eating window so fasting for 18 hours every day, AND joined Planet Fitness where I lift weights / run 4-5 days per week. I throw in a 24 or 36 hour fast at least every other week. I got lean FAST! I'm now at my High School wrestling weight and honestly look and feel better than I have for at least 15 years. Most remarkably I'm not hungry while fasting. The Keto diet (super low carbs) is the reason for that! Oh, I also recently had my bloodwork checked and everything is great!

I truly have been enjoying, and have adapted quite well to, the 18:6 intermittent fasting routine. I’m into my second week of it, went from 234lbs to 227lbs in only a week and a half, feeling much more energy and my sleep has been outer worldly. For the first time in, I’d say well over two years, I’ve slept between eight and nine hours for a whole week. All it took was to cut out one meal every day. I am considering doing OMAD for awhile, and also incorporating some extended fasts. I sure hope most, if not all of these other physical maladies I deal with will be brought under control or completely eliminated in time! Thank you.

At the 16th hour, I got a notification that my body has gone into ketosis. At 24 hours (yesterday), I got a notification that my body has gone into AUTOPHAGY. I had no idea what this meant. I got scared. Then I searched on KZread and came across this. Within 48 hours, I am feeling amazing. More energy, a clearer mind, calmness, my knee pain has improved(looks like pacman is really working). I also realised that I am not craving sugar like before and not craving snacks. Autophagy can reach optimum levels with Keto and IF. After a year on Keto and Intermittent Fasting I lost 52pounds and 5inches waist line as well as many my grey hair replacing with usual dark hair. Even my skin is glowing as if good cream applied though I never use any creams. Most importantly there are no saggy skin in any part of my body though I lost fat uniformly. Keto and IF works period most importantly it is not a painful or difficult diets like many other diets only drawback is we have to make our own food preparations with keto ingredients unlike enjoying some fast food or other restaurant foods or processed packaged foods from grocery stores. It is not an exaggeration to reveal that I look like a 35yr old though I am 59yrs and 6months old.

This is my top 8 list based on what I've learned doing research. How to lose weight fast in just a week about 15 to 20 pounds 1) breathing technique. slowly inhale for 3 seconds then hold it for 7 seconds so that air or oxygen stays in your lungs and make your lungs bigger. Make your lungs expand so you don't get tired easily. Then exhale not from mouth but thru your nostrils. Your endurance will last. When you walk run or swim. 2) sleep longer if possible 8 to 9 hours. You still lose weight by just sleeping. Why because your subconscious mind works. It tell you heart to pump blood. Tells your kidneys to filter and other organs to work while sleeping. And when you breath tiny particles of water comes out from your nostrils. 3) extended fasting after intermittent firv3 days. Try for 4 days not eating any except water. 4) take multi vitamins daily so you still get nutrients. Take this for 3 days after meal if you do intermittent. 5) light exercise like squats 30x 4x a day. Every 3 hours if possible. Do some walking daily for 15 to 20 mins. Include some body stretching too. 6) drink only 3 full glasses of water daily. Once in morning once in afternoon and once b4 going to bed. 7) massage your chest left and right. By doing that your massaging your left and right lungs. Massage the veins in the middle of your chest. Massage your scalp and the side of your head. Including your cheeks and around your eyes and side of your nose. Massage also your arms all fingers and knees down to your foot including your toes. Do this daily. 8) study the bible read the scriptures this also will prolong your life. Also listen to your parents. It's biblical. God bless and Goodluck.

It's been 8 days now and I'm doing a lot better. I did lose weight but wheeeeww when I looked into the mirror I was like:what? My skin is glowing and I look younger. And I know in a way my body must have detoxed, so I looked it up and landed here. So I fasted more or less since I couldn't eat and I slept a loooot, I drank self made lemon tea, hoping it would get rid of the sick feeling and relaxed. So I think all of this contributed and I'm blown away. Definitely going to do this more often

Your presentation on autophagy is engrossing.you are the testimony to autophagy and you look beautiful and vibrant. I have been following four tips of autophagy with a little bit variation in carbs and fat.First thing in the morning I do oil pulling followed by drinking hot lime water with turmeric, black pepper and a tea spoon of virgin olive oil and have been doing this for over three years. It has worked wonders on my wellbeing and my skin. I'd like to share one more thing. I immerse myself in a chore( whether house hold or professional) in a way that half an hour or couple hours is gone unnoticed, without watching time. I consider this as a meditation.I experience this intermittently thro' the day. I consider this kind of meditation has no parallel. In all other forms of meditation, one has got no control over one's thoughts. I believe it did wonders to my mind body and soul. I hope you must have experienced this kind of meditation as well.

I was just thinking...I'm aware that drinking plenty of water/staying sufficiently hydrated (and sometimes more than we perhaps realise we need?) plus deep breathing, can in some way aid cell rejuvenation - so do you feel these could contribute to autophagy as well? Certainly I often feel they can bring quite a de-tox in the body from what I've experienced so far.

Apparently this soup is very good for blood circulation for the brain and for the ears (6) also try taking “ ginkgo Biloba “ tablets (7) try “ear candling” therapy with professional healers which will get rid of all impurities embedded in the ear canals. Pls never give up and always be positive and I hope some of the above may be of help to cure your Tinnitus. 🙏🙏

It's good to see the word "autophagy" and a growing conceptual understanding of how the body engages autophagy during fasting. I am right now in my 14th session of medical dryfasting for deep autophagy and these sessions last for about two weeks each. In 1971 my thyroid was removed and I had been on Synthroid, then glandulars all these years until I started titrating off the glandulars. I am now totally off glandulars and many other healthful restorations. I've relied almost solely on dryfasting for deep autophagy, and not much on herbs or other supplements except for seaweed broth and organic alfalfa cold brewed tea. My body is turning more and more to wanting raw ripe fruits and now hates what it used to love - excess salts, lean cooked meats, starchy foods, processed sweets, and sulferous veggies. For example, I used to love pasta and now I can't stand the starchy taste of it. My body still loves fats and I do indulge in low sodium fatty bacon or plain lard. To date I have over the years logged over 4,000 hours of two-weeks sessions of what I call medical dryfasting for serious medical conditions - beyond just the thyroid having been removed. Move lymph, move lymph, move lymph is what it is all about - body hates stagnant lymph. I do a lot of rebounding to move lymph to assist the biochemical process of autophagy. Autophagic magic.

If you get onto FB feel free to message me is you have any technical questions. I no longer need to take any glandulars - titrated off several years ago solely through initiating autophagy long enough and with enough intensity to restore thyroid function. Body still working on the parathyroid though (uptake and utilization of calcium).

@@kokomoko6162 How amazing is this smart body that it can even knit back together enough of a thyroid that I no longer have to take thyroid and supporting glandulars and supplements (NCBI website articles support this). The work is not 100% done with the parathyroid, but the latest development with the parathyroid (uptake and utilization of calcium) is the plantar fascitis (painful soles of feet causing me to limp around and having to wear compression socks) is down from a #10 to a #2 level of discomfort. I can now lift heavy loads without being in pain the next day. I don't take any supplements or glandulars except for cold brewing organic alfalfa tea and cold brewing kelp fronds during the re-feeding period. Otherwise I eat and drink whatever at that moment I find delicious - cooked or raw... during a shortened feasting window (eating only to satiation). My body does and will resolve all its issues when I withhold food and drink for as long as I can tolerate it mentally/emotionally - which for myself that historically has been no more than two weeks at a session of strict 24/7 dryfasting. Autophagic magic. lol However, kids, don't do this at home - most people do best on some sort of personally workable schedule of intermittent fasting in ratio to longer daily hours of fasting autophagy. The intense "Phase II" dryfasting I do is for people with serious medical or health issues - like if your parachute did not open when you jumped out of a plane - ouch! I have a modest FB page, "Informed Dryfasting" which has in the "files" section a two-page .doc listing possible and probable unpleasant cleansing responses during fasting autophagy. Know before you go. Wishing you much health and vitality.

Thank you for this information. I’m of normal weight and I’m a great European cook. I truly infuse my cooking with love. But I would like to be even healthier and lose a couple of pounds. I think the difficulties with keto is that it’s so restrictive. I’ve heard so many people say, for instance, that you have to cut out sugar 100%, and zero bread or it won’t work. I eat tons of vegetables and protein, and enjoy some bread and occasional dessert. I’ve also read that the body doesn’t need much protein because it produces it. Ugh! Sure takes a lot of joy out of life.

  • @beverlyford3933

M R I’m so sorry someone gave you such misguided info and and discouraged you. Eating Keto is not as restrictive as you think. You just have to put in the time to do your research. There are healthy substitutes for almost everything. Sugar can easily be replaced with a healthier choice like monk fruit sweetener or erythrotol. Wheat can be replaced by almond or coconut flour, of course the texture won’t be exactly the same but you can tweak it to suit your taste. As for the veggies, not all are Keto friendly and must be eaten in moderation. Think green and leafy. Berries are ok in moderation. You can enjoy a delicious blueberry cheesecake. The idea is to eat healthy fats, moderate amounts of protein and very low carbs. There are several apps that could help you track and regulate your food intake. Also, you can find lots of reputable help right here on KZread. Give it a shot before you give up. Who knows, with your passion for cooking you might come up with an excellent cookbook to share with humanity.

Keep up the good work promoting this important message relating to autophagy, diet and fasting. As a graduate of Biomedical Sciences the concept of autophagy was taught to be associated with cell death rather than the process of cell repair and renewal (treated almost as a side issue rather than an important health concept). Even less understood was the role of insulin in inhibiting this process. It’s important to get across the current misinterpretations of our metabolic processes and correct by reinforcing new interpretations around ketosis and fasting and why this works. We also need to be clear it’s not easy to practise in a (developed) world of over consumption and access to cheap processed carb rich and veg oil based junk food. Furthermore, there’s a widely held perception that to feel hungry isn’t acceptable or healthy out there, which is also incorrect and extremely dangerous. These are difficult behaviours and beliefs to explain to other in attempts to agree breaking. I’ve personally alienated friends (who struggle with weight) when trying to explain the correct way forward. It’s amazing how embedded eating, hunger, fat, cholesterol levels are fixed in people’s Psyche to the point of not accepting anything other than the current accepted misinformation. There is a huge mountain to climb.

Currently doing a 72 hour cycle of 48 hours autophagy fast followed by a 24 hour eating window such as a healthy supper and the next day is a 4 hour seperation between meals. Being doing this for 2 weeks. I did a 36 hour fast but it collides with work to much. From 203 down to 140 at the moment. May 2023

Bergamot is a very common fruit in all the Mediterranean countries , here in Tunisia we eat the whole fruit , dry the peels and drink bergamot infused water , We also mix bergamot and lemon to make amazing lemonade in hot summer days . It's the season now and my backyard tree is full of super juicy fruits,.

I have been only distilled water fasting annually for 4 years. I had a moderate case of psoriasis. Furthermore, I was taking a biologic to fight the symptoms. The first year I fasted for 14 days, and it made my psoriasis dormant for an entire year, leaving no traces. I didn't take any biologics, topical, or light therapy. After a year, the symptoms returned, but were very mild. The second year, I fasted for 10 days, experienced the same mild symptoms and only periodically had to take a topical for my scalp, knees and elbows. To the third and fourth years, the symptoms pretty much remained the same. I plan on fasting for 14 days the next time and see if it removes the symptoms entirely again. I want to add that during the year, once or twice, I'll do a 3-day and a 7-day fast.

My husband has since an adult had severe eczema on his hands every winter. He did one four days strict dryfast to clear the kidney tubules (recommended by Professor Valter Longo at UCLA and Dr. Pompano) and the hands cleared up. It is known that the skin is the third kidney.

Your kidneys don't work that way. Dehydration is bad for your renal tubules, doesn't "give it a break". If doing extended fasting, that's great. Just make it a water-fast

@@cranjusmcbasketball4977 That may be true for your body condition. My [empirical] experience tells me quite the opposite. My body is never dehydrated during a long dryfast - even for two week or more. That's wy I don't listen to people anymore - just listen to my body's signals, and with nothing but cleansing and restorative results. I go into detail of my knowledgebase of biochemistry and my own over 6000 hours of long dryfasting in my "Informed Dryfasting" private Facebook Group. Also, there is now much research into autophagy which I frequently study - mostly on the NCBI website. In my case fears of dehydration during a dryfast is over-rated and not supported.

@@colleenkaralee2280 Well, that's good for you I suppose. But that wasn't an opinion, it was a fact. Dehydration isn't case-specific or selective. Yes, look up the Ramadan fasting results on NCBI against normal water-fasting surveys. There's clear evidence of renal damage. In water fasting (even for longer periods), no such damage occurs. Autophagy runs full-swing too, on a water fast. Anyway, good luck
