Let’s talk about autophagy. Autophagy is an incredible process. It basically eats up the junk in your body and transforms it into usable things.
This “junk” is unusable damaged proteins, which trigger inflammation. It also helps get rid of pathogens and viral antigens.
Autophagy is like an anti-aging cleaning system of the body. But it doesn’t just clean things up-it provides raw material to build new cells and provide fuel when you need it.
Two major things will stop autophagy: sugar and protein. But, any significant amount of calories will also stop autophagy.
Autophagy may act as a strong protective barrier against disease. But, if you already have cancer, autophagy can aid the growth and progression of cancer.
Autophagy can help you if you’re healthy and can hurt you if you’re not healthy. Unfortunately, many people wait until they get sick before they utilize strategies like autophagy.
The best way to trigger autophagy is to do fasting. You’ll notice more positive benefits from autophagy once you get into about 18 hours of fasting. You’ll notice even more benefits when you get up to 48 to 72 hours of fasting. You can take electrolytes, nutrients, and sea salt, but you shouldn’t consume any calories while fasting.
An additional simple strategy to see more benefits from autophagy is to go on a low-sugar, low-carb diet. Consuming a moderate amount of protein is also crucial-not excess protein or low protein.
Exercise is important to stimulate autophagy. Aerobic exercise (lower intensity and longer duration) will stimulate autophagy more than high-intensity exercise. But, I suggest doing both forms of exercise for different benefits.
Certain phytonutrients and adaptogens can also trigger autophagy to a certain degree.

Sorry to hear you have stage 4☹️ Please pray for healing from our Lord Jesus daily. Please also look up metabolic therapy and Dr. Thomas N. Seyfried. He teaches Cancer Metabolism at Boston College. He makes total sense. I could listen to him all day, he's filled with so much knowledge and has been very successful with knocking out this disease. Also look up Fenbendazole and Joe Tippens and his protocol. Fascinating as well and Dr. Seyfried mentions this drug along with Mebendazole in his interviews also. Joe Tippens took Fenbendazole and healed his terminal cancer with it.

Try mashed up broccoli sprouts. After 15 minutes, supposedly, the shattered cells release chemicals the make sulforaphane, a natural insecticide. The first time I took it, all 15 of my moles quickly dried up and fell off. Got to be careful with fasting though, and a high fat diet, as some cancers eat fat, not sugar. Easy to find out what type yours consumes. This process is so powerful because ALL the potential sulforaphane is already in the seed. Greatest health benefit are in the sprouts, then the stalk, then the leaves, and finally there is a tiny residual amount in the florets. Be careful though as too munch can also trigger a psychotic break. Be by your self when you first take them, or better still, be with someone you want out of your life, permanently. Intermittent fasting is dangerous for people with a lot of comorbidities, and can trigger rapid cancer spread. The time to heal one self is RIGHT NOW, before it is too late.

I cannot tell you how much 1) Stopping sugar 2) 18:6 Intermittent fasting daily with a 4 day fast every 2 months plus 3) Regular weight lifting every other day has done to me, my blood work, physical appearance, attitude and confidence. This makes month 28 for me on this schedule with 52 pounds and 7 prescription medications missing from my life at age 61. Unrelated- Apparently there are some internet doctors out there who are butt sore about Dr. Bergs 11.2 million subscribers so they make a video trying to convince you they need more of your attention on health then his channel. Professor Seyfried says if you water fast for 30 days most cancers are eliminated from your body. My wife has stage 4 bowel cancer , terminal Blah blah blah. Standard of care did nothing . Started metabolic therapy in I’d January 2024 with a CEA of 30. 9 weeks in lymph nodes are normal tumour has greatly reduced. No pain. Walking 10k a day with dog. CEA now 4. Normal is 2.5. She fasts 5 days and eats 9 days. In her case Autophagy has only helped , otherwise she would be dead or have a higher CEA reading. We are not far off having no visible signs of cancer. Anyone wanting our plan or method feel free to ask. It’s not easy but works. Professor Seyfried’s advice has saved her life.

They continually harp at how unhealthy it is to do that. I am the oldest in the group and certainly the healthiest. I eat meat, some dairy and an occasional serving of fermented foods, water, green tea. I can lift weights, run, body weight exercises without hesitation. So I will continue to fast and stay on track. I have a stage 4 hodkins lymphoma cancer. I have already had ABVD (chemo) last year and at the beginning of this year was told i have 3 swollen lymph nodes (cancerous); one lymph node i can physically feel on the left of my neck. I didnt have a clue that traditional herbal medicine even existed for cancer before. Until i came accross Dr Bergs interviews with cancer patients and then i binge watched all his videos. So, for the past 3 and a half months i have been doing either a 3,4 or 5 day prolonged fast each week. I havent quite got myself to doing longer than this yet but i do want to. Some of these fasts have been dry fasts. I have taken all the inhibitors Dr Berg reccomends (although i can increase my apigenin intake with extra greens). When i eat, its usually cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower or broccoli with a small portion of protein. I drink a herbal tea thrice a day with: Dandelion root Olive leaf Soursop Turmeric Ginger Pomegranate peel Astragalus Cleavers Red clovers Green tea Cinnamon Burdock root Poke root Nettle seeds Hibiscus Echinacea Squeezed with lemon in the end I also daily take around 5-6 cloves or garlic Green smoothie with matcha, Swiss chard, cucumbers, lemon one day and the next day a red smoothie with beets, carrots and grapefruit Also, have made an extract of lemon, orange and grapefruit peel. So, I take 2 tablespoons of that in the morning and evening now. Twice a day i take a tablespoon of blackseed oil and apricot bitter kernels (2 in am and 2 in pm) I start my morning with apple cider vinegar. Initially my lymph node on the neck was around 3cm (determined after a PET scan) and it felt the same when i measured it with my fingers. After doing the above for about a month i felt it reduced drastically to around 1.5 cm. But since ive had the virus/flu towards the end of my second month, i feel the size of the stagnant lymph node changes.. sometimes it seems enlarged and other times reduced. Im still adament i dont want to go for another round of chemo. My oncologist, after my relapse suggested i take ICE chemo (which is stronger than ABVD), with a bone marrow transplant and immunotherapy. The effects of ABVD were destructive for me, im still suffering from a lot of damage internally including digestive problems and bone/joint weakness. So thats a no for me. I will continue to persist with this route. Currently, am making an oil infused with poke root. Takes some weeks before this oil can be potent enough to dissolve cysts, tumors, stagnant lymph nodes, helps with psoriasis also. Will update once ive used this-excited about this. All the herbs and supplements i use can be found in a link under my bio. This is what I've been using in my journey so far.

Thank you for sharing and giving us an insight on how you manage your health and illness- it’s very strong of you to face and fight it , whilst acknowledging different types of food and herbal medicine- my father suffered cancer and realised that sugar was making it worse for him - so when he stopped taking refined and tempting processed food the cancer did not progress and he did not go for a second round of chemo - he felt better and would say that I don’t feel sick like I did many years ago - he incorporated herbal medication and it did work for him

hey. If you are referring to deep breathing exercises, rebounding, dry brushing, tapping, hot/cold showers, castor oil packs and lemon water; I am doing all of this daily as well as my herbal regimen. So, my oncologist is on board with everything I'm doing now. He will PET scan me next month to see if my lymph nodes have reduced in size and SUV activity. He said if it's not grown I'd take that as a positive and my regimen as being the reason for the growth to stop. Also, he said it the SUV number has gone down which shows how hyper active the cancerous cells are- then that will also be a positive. Praying for everyone's healing 🤲

Dear Dr. Berg, please clarify cancer versus autophagy for people, most of us are confused. My understanding is the following: everybody (that is healthy) has cancer cells to some degree, a healthy body is able to clear the cancer cells up naturally with its immune system. If the cancer cells group together and make another "organism", that is where the problem starts. The tumor now directly can connect to the metabolism of the body (through the blood vessels or through the lymphatic system) and what the person eats can also directly feed the tumor, too. In that sense, during autophagy what the body clears up and makes into fuel and energy, can also feed the tumor. In this case, that is why autophagy inhibitors could be beneficial, so the tumor fully starves without getting any energy at all. I would say, this still should be done carefully, because in this case the body itself is also starving big time, so just do it with care. (This theory would only make sense if the body feeds the tumor during autophagy as a priority over the body in general or if the tumor gets enough energy through autophagy.)

Some studies have revealed that a high level of autophagy is observed in RAS-activating mutated cells, and cell survival is dependent on autophagy during nutrient starvation In addition, inhibition of autophagy-related protein enhances the accumulation of damaged mitochondria and decreases cell growth . These results indicate that autophagy plays an important role in cell survival of several tumors that depend on RAS activation.

Thomas Seyfried has discussed autophagy in the context of cancer treatment. He suggests that promoting autophagy through dietary interventions like fasting or ketogenic diets may help in cancer therapy by enhancing the destruction of cancerous cells. Additionally, he proposes that impairments in autophagy may contribute to the development and progression of cancer. However, it's important to note that autophagy is a complex process with varying effects depending on the context, and more research is needed to fully understand its role in cancer and other diseases.

Hi Dr. Berg… I always appreciate every video and all of your effort. However, I’m a little confused on the autophagy and cancer topic.… I really haven’t done keto for all that long… Started end of June of this year… So five solid months and I have lost 40 pounds. Feeling better but definitely cortisol and stress are still holding on extremely in my life but I’m battling.… Have more than a handful of your supplements and just learning all the time. So thank you. I would really and humbly request more information on the autophagy/cancer topic as I have finally gotten up the nerve to embark on a three day fast. Looking forward to it though I haven’t started it but I’ll definitely do that during this month of December. Also, what happened to the whiteboard! … I love the bullet points in the background as you go through the various numbers of what you are teaching us. That teaching tool is awesome and I hope you don’t lose it for the same background that this video shows continually. Anyway… That seemed a little off in this video so just wanted to give you some well-meaning feedback. Have a good weekend.

@@nimitaw1167 Hi Nimita💚 I think you are doing great and wish you improved health beyond what you’ve ever had🙏🏽 I did a quick Google search and there are research articles at least since 2018 that say autophagy can basically fight and feed cancer. What I read was far too scientific for me to understand and I might show it to my oncologist. So all I can say is keep going 🙏🏽 I’m a fan of Paleomedicina. Dr. Berg has an interview with Paleomedicina’s founder Zsofia Clemens. They are able to keep you on a diet that mimics water fasting. They have great success with many diseases including cancer. I found them to be affordable to work with, also. Anyhow… don’t freak out! But I do agree… Dr. Berg needs to explain more because he has been preaching the exact opposite for a long time now. He said in many of his videos: “If I found out I had cancer, I would immediately do a 21 day water fast at the minimum.” So I hope he can give us a more nuanced explanation of his latest information.

To clarify or specify what is necessary. All the other materials we can find on the internet so far about this topic vastly states autophagy helps to starve cancer cells, therefore being a tool in curing it. The outcome may vary according to individuals and multiple factors obviously, but still the knowledge about it is pretty consensual. Why not answering to the question raised because of this video ? 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🧬 *Introduction to Autophagy* - Autophagy is a natural process where the body self-cleans and recycles damaged proteins and organelles. - Autophagy helps remove pathogens and viral antigens, reducing inflammation and promoting anti-aging. - Sugar and excessive protein intake can inhibit autophagy. 03:11 ⚖️ *Autophagy and Cancer* - Autophagy can both protect against and promote cancer depending on the context. - Inhibiting autophagy may be used as an anti-cancer strategy, such as with hydroxychloroquine. - Research is exploring non-toxic autophagy inhibitors for cancer treatment. 05:14 🕒 *Fasting and Autophagy* - Fasting is the most potent way to trigger autophagy by depleting energy reserves. - The duration of fasting needed for significant autophagy varies but typically starts around 18 hours. - Low sugar and low protein diets can accelerate autophagy during fasting. 08:28 💧 *Water Fasting and Dry Fasting* - Dry fasting (no food or water) can intensify autophagy, but it should be approached cautiously. - Controlled dry fasting, such as fasting without water for part of the night, can offer benefits. - Burning fat releases water, so hydration isn't entirely cut off during fasting. 10:30 🏋️‍♀️ *Exercise and Autophagy* - Both aerobic and resistance exercises stimulate autophagy, with aerobic exercise being more effective. - Combining intermittent fasting with exercise can enhance autophagy. - Building muscle and autophagy can be conflicting goals, but both have their benefits. 11:56 🍞 *Reducing Carbs and Protein* - Lowering carbohydrate intake and moderating protein consumption can boost autophagy. - Reducing carbs limits the need to burn stored sugars during fasting, speeding up autophagy. - Moderate protein intake ensures the body continues recycling old proteins during fasting. 12:53 🌿 *Natural Inhibitors of Autophagy* - Some natural compounds like stony sponge, apigenin, curcumin, black cumin seed, thunder of GodVine, and retinol are researched for their potential to inhibit autophagy. - These inhibitors may be considered for cancer treatment, as cancer cells thrive on autophagy. - Research is ongoing, and these inhibitors may have potential for low-side-effect treatments. 14:05 📣 *Stay Informed* - Due to content restrictions, access all information on Dr. Berg's website by subscribing to the newsletter. - Ensuring access to valuable information about autophagy and related topics. As a Muslim, I observe Ramadan, a month of fasting and spirituality, during this month. My family and I are doing a dry fast, and we will do it for 30 days. We are doing great. Fasting for 30 days every year is a common practice among Muslims. We break our fasting eating dates.

Dr Berg, I have been following you for years and you seemed to be making a lot of sense until today. Why are there a very significant number of commenters including me scratching their head with this advice which goes against what you have been saying in the past regarding fasting, autophagy and cancer. Many of us below thought the advice was that fasting eliminated sugar as a fuel source which cancer needed to survive (Also see Dr Seyfried regarding this same topic and all his research into cancer). I think you need to address this contradiction. I notice in the comments you mainly seem to reply to comments to thank people for their praise of you. Maybe some interaction with commenters concerns maybe more appropriate. If we, your followers are saying wtf is this turn around in advice then I hate to imagine what your detractors will make of it.

If you're trying to lose weight just be careful with prolonged fasting including doing OMAD. I did OMAD a few months ago for 14 days straight and my weight loss came to a screeching halt (and I was still exercising - running and lifting weights). Doing OMAD or even 20:4 can lower your BMR (metabolism). It sure did for me. I work with a R.D. who confirmed this can and DOES indeed happen with many people. My sweet spot is 18:6. Doing that I am continuing to lose weight and still getting some autophagy. Again, I am only talking about people who are trying to lose weight. If you are at your ideal weight (many people are not) then obviously this doesn't apply. I have about 10 more pounds to go. Also, I still don't feel you need to do strict keto. I don't. I have been doing Adkins this year (when you compare the % breakdown of fats/proteins/carbs between Adkins and keto, Adkins is higher protein and not as much fat as keto is.....both are low carb but (strict) keto is crazy low carb). It has worked for me: I lost 40 lbs in 7 months this year. I am 5'8" and now weigh under 180. Started out at 220. I'm 53 years old. I'm off my statin, no longer need to wear a CPAP machine because I have reversed my sleep apnea and I also lowered my A1C from 5.8 to 5.2. Triglycerides are way down, HDL way up, vLDL cut in half.

Hi Dr Berg. I have a question related with building muscle. I usually do a high intense session of cardio, ~35min before my workouts in a fasted state. I've started eating more so I can build muscle but at the same time I just do 2 meals a day. Recently, I've started introducing to my diet carbs, only whole grain products high in dietary fiber, because I was finding hard to achieve a high amount of calories. My question is, to have the benefits of authopaghy + building muscle, how should I approach my eating patterns ? Go back to Keto 1 or 2 times per week, eat less on rest days, etc. I've got great results with intermetting fasting + Keto + Exercise but now I am not sure how to go hybrid in order to build muscle. Thanks !

Dr. Berg, it would be great to hear your views on Professor Thomas Seyfried's work that provides clinical evidence that cancer is a metabolic disease that may be treated by severely restricting and inhibiting glucose and glutamine and in doing so starve cancer cells. Fasting and diet would seem to be key parts to such a metabolic treatment.

  • @melody88_88

Thomas Seyfried has discussed autophagy in the context of cancer treatment. He suggests that promoting autophagy through dietary interventions like fasting or ketogenic diets may help in cancer therapy by enhancing the destruction of cancerous cells. Additionally, he proposes that impairments in autophagy may contribute to the development and progression of cancer. However, it's important to note that autophagy is a complex process with varying effects depending on the context, and more research is needed to fully understand its role in cancer and other diseases.

So I’m basically starting to eat just as autophagy starts to kick in. At least on 20:4 IF I’ll get 2 hours a day of autophagy. I’ve been adding turmeric to my foods also to decrease inflammation so I guess I should limit that on my Intermittent Fasting days.

I to am a bit confused about earlier episodes where we were told fasting autophogy was the best way to kill cancer cells now being told it can do the reverse . As someone who lost my right kidney to a cancerous tumour i do all i can to prevent its recurrence. And after listening to the interview with the frenchman a while ago i started on a 3 day fast to start with only to find out this information on the second day of the fast when listening to an autophogy expert on another you tube channel say the say thing . So not knowing if i actually still might have other cancer growing that i didnt know about i stopped immediately. The thing i found out about cancer after having it happened to myself was i never knew i had cancer in me . I was told later after removal of the kidney that the category 1 type cancer i had being a slow growing tumour could have started 4 to 5 years earlier and i was totally unaware till sharp pains in my mid back started appearing . So what im saying is even people who think they are cancer free should be very careful if this is true about autophogy and cancer . You expect conflicting information from one expert to the next but not from the one expert .Cheers
