Top Autophagy Benefits (Weight Loss) | Jason Fung

Autophagy is the natural cellular recycling process that rids our body of old or malfunctional protein. This sets in motion the process of rejuvenation as our body rebuilds new proteins to replace the old ones. Autophagy is a powerful method of healing and is best activated by fasting. That's why 1.3 billion Muslims around the world FAST, from sunrise to sunset, for a month every year. It's prescribed by our Creator. That's why Islam promotes and encourages science as it helps uncover our divine law. I appeal to all the scientists to explore the book of Quran. This book of divine law and signs is untouched and intact in it's original language since 1400 years. Divine laws also came before but unfortunately they are not intact anymore. Quran is the last correction of the divine law. Explore it!

In fact because my chronic sinus / Nasal congestion problem cleared up within a week I had , by chance , found positive reinforcement to help me give up bread . Nearly 18 months on I doubt if I have eaten one loaf of bread in total . When I ate bread I got into the habit of feeding birds with half the loaf because I knew that I could easily finish off a loaf once I had started on it . Oats , which are meant to be satiating , were even more hunger inducing for me . Even when I was eating the first bowl I was thinking of the second bowl ! I think for some people ( and I am definitely one ) carbs cause this extreme insulin response - so you can never reach satiety .

@Jane 24 y.o - check my vidéó I can handle the 41>48 hours of fasting I do and I would have done a little more but I intensely hate the refeeding process. Certainly no refeeding process started if I want to break my fast anytime after 5:30 or 6 PM.

I'm grateful for excellent vids like this where Dr. Fung does a nice job of explaining the science behind the benefits of fasting that help keep me motivated. After yrs of plant based/standard caloric restriction, the drop in body fat composition & increased energy with fasting/keto is astonishing.

Started fasting worked up to one meal a day went from 240 to 190 at 5’11”. I turn 60 in a month my goal now is to get to 185 the same weight I came out of high school at. Doing this for a year with no problem I think proves to me I will do this for the rest of my life. Could not have done it without you and Dr. Ekberg love him as well. Thanks Again

There should be a balance between breaking things down and building things up. That principle is applicable in biology and can be generalized to nearly everything in this world. Going too far to one extreme or another is the root of nearly all forms of dysfunction and unhappiness. Thank you Dr. Fung for being the foremost voice in emphasizing the need for such balance in our dietary habits way BEFORE it became the popular thing for diet gurus to advocate.

Great explanation thanks . I recently did a 5 day water fast and for last two months have only one meal a day . Was overweight and felt terrible . Now I'm much thinner and my energy level is amazing also noticed my memory is much better. Feel like a new person . Well worth the effort . I stay off alcohol, sugary items and carbs . Eat lots of meats, eggs and vegetables with some fruit and drink lots of water with electrolytes and afew supplement pills like vitamin C , Magnessium and zinc . Living the dream again thank God! Surfing again was a main focus to get me healthy again as I had given it up because of being overweight but I really missed the fun . Yay !
