This was NOT the video we wanted to make, but the Airstream Interstate van is dead this morning. So instead of us heading to a cool Harvest Host in Sacramento, California, we're stuck dealing with yet more van life problems. Come along with us as we trouble shoot the RV issues of the day and try to stay sane. 🤦♀️

My heart aches for you all. Seeing Daniel so upset was heartbreaking. I wanted to just reach out and give him a great big hug. Before long Daniel will qualify as a RV tech with all the knowledge he’s painfully gaining. Seeing Dash dance was a great way to come to an end. Prayers coming your way.❤

Etrimeable, with all of the madness, we've dropped it down to our one Sunday video per week until we can figure out what's going on with the van. 🤦♀️
Omg I truly admire you guys. I would be beyond pissed lol if I bought a $300k VAN with a toddler and had all those issues. Love your patience!!! Best part of the video was Dash dancing he's Adorable!! I wish you guys would have kept the airstream trailer!! But it's nice to see how positive you guys handle the issues!
Dont let this be the end of your van life it is so much better to be able to see the world and much cheaper than running a house
That dashboard looked like a Christmas tree… 😢😢😢
Don’t know if you tried this Completely unhook the battery so it clears out the computer, hook it back up and see if that works. Also in our van the seat has to be locked position forward facing for ours to start. Don’t know if these things will work but it’s something you could try while your waiting for the tow truck. We will keep you in our prayers 🙏
This is the reason I gave this van zero flamingos at the beginning. Right now, it’s in a serious flamingo deficit.

Something may have been damaged from that water leak you experienced earlier. If it helps every vehicle is fixable or replaceable. You're a great family with real star quality. Hang in their. You are truly loved.
Bahahahaha beer thirty!😂 Ok...you two done better than I would have. Patience is a venture. I seriously would research the LEMON LAW on your ride.
Sometimes paying top dollar for all the bells and whistles can only cause major problems, especially when it comes with high tech computer stuff in vehicles, but I’m old school 🤷🏼♀️. Also seeing a lot of RVs that have all the solar on the roofs catching fire. We only have one on top of our RV and I want to take if off ours, we just have a smaller RV and only use it for boondocking until we get the generator going. Sure hope airstream will making everything right for you so you can get back on the road again. And oh that DASH so adorable and love the dance moves that little dude can make. He is at the fun stage now only wish kids could stay that way longer, they grow up so fast. Pretty soon he will be running marathons right beside Daniel.
Wow....Cheryl and I are so sorry to hear that. We were wondering why no new videos had been posted, and then saw your post on FB last week. Love watching your adventures, especially young Dash, but certainly not enjoying seeing all your problems. The hail damage was just wrong place wrong time....but jeez...all the Airstream issues? FWIW, spoke to the local Airstream salesman at the dealer in Tampa when they called last week, and I informed them that we were reconsidering our choice given all the issues we've been watching you have. I sincerely hope they can you get three fixed up and back on the road again soon. So many plans having to be changed....not fun.
If I am reading what I am seeing on the charger 750ma at 12 volts is way to low on amperage for a 12 volt car or 12 volt van battery. You need a charger like 12 volts at (5AMPS) to charge that battery. Even a little higher than 5AMPS would be better. That's a battery Tender for keeping a fully charged battery topped off say if it is sitting for a while in storage or doing times while it is parked for a while. It will never charge a low battery ....Fred in Texas
We definitely found out as well that the van has a big battery drain. In Florida, we store our van under cover that does not allow enough solar, so I add a battery charger (which we can do under the hood). I bring the charger and a 1000amp battery booster on every trip - just in case. Not aware of an auxiliary battery on our same chassis. You can turn the MBUX system off when not using. Also, the sliding door is a big draw. Good luck, and safe travels!
I've been following you guys for a while. Your real life problems with the van are very relatable. It is actually refreshing to see "real life" van life videos. I am so sorry you are going through this and I hope things turn around soon. ❤

Thank you friend! We try to keep it as real as possible so everyone knows it’s not all kittens and rainbows. The goal is to be flexible and adapt to what is thrown at you. ❤️
When then chassi battery is that low the alarms will start to showing up that is normal. Will clear-up with full operational battery. When your lithium batteries are around 30% alarms on panals will start to show errors, that is normal. When battery is charged it will clear up. I find it hard to believe that it is the starter on the van. Your chassi batteries are not being chagered while driving by the Alternator.
What horrors!! I think the recent flooding might be the root cause of the electrical problems you're now having. You're both handling this INCREDIBLY WELL!! As much as I feel such deep angst for you both, I gotta tell ya... Dash dancing to the music was the HIGHLIGHT of today's podcast!! Oh, that was so precious!! If it were me, I'd be having some deadly serious talks with AIRSTREAM about now. You currently have a $300K P.O.S. on your hands. Beer-thirty, it IS!!!
So sorry you guys are having so much trouble with your beautiful van! I'd take it back and shove it where the sun don't shine! Thank God you aren't out in the middle of nowhere with that baby!! God bless and good luck!
Dancing Dash was the cutest and best❤ Cheers to Van Dumbness 🥂
Dash is so cute dancing and he loves to drive just like his Dad❤
Husband said anytime there has been a water near electronic wiring issue it can kind of snow ball into other things. No spooky stuff - just wiring
I have a diesel with two batteries. The truck didn’t start one day so I tried a jumper box, didn’t work. Called AAA and was told that a jumper box would not work because I had two batteries. I had to replace the batteries.
I'll be keeping my 2004 interstate. Way simpler... I feel the frustration.

Good call! You’ll appreciate our new video launching later more than most people. 😉
When our battery went dead we had all kinds of errors going off in our Honda van
Jeez guys. This has not been your summer. But Dash still makes us smile!❤️
Airstream needs to come to your assistance...free of charge!!!!
You need new batteries, once they’ve been overloaded they will not charge on a trickle charge.

When the regular ole car’s battery goes the alarm horn beeps like it’s possessed. Maybe it just needs a new battery but something is clearly draining it. Good luck 🙏🏻🤞I think you should have bought a battery at that hardware store. I am so sorry for you guys.
That sucks i hope it can be fix the camp ground is nice i see people with vans rv and always seems good for them and no trouble it sucks that you have trouble a lot with this van
My heart aches for you both. How incredibly frustrating. Lovely that so many tired to help. Prayers that everything gets fixed and you find comfort and peace. I think sometimes too much technology isn't good. Dash is such a cutie pie.
I had an almost identical problem with my new ProMaster. Problem was a loose ground wire from chassis battery to ground. Symptoms were the same. No start. All kinds of errors on control screen. RAM dealer couldn’t find problem because it was intermittent. I finally discovered the loose ground nut when stuck for the third time while on a trip. Hope by now your problem is solved.
Oh you poor guys. Y’all are really handling your travails so much better than we would be. Good luck!!!
Ok finished watching now every one with a sprinter van based vehicle should know about how to to a soft reset when the gremlins set in, there is a small compartment on the right of the peddles on the column (passenger footwell in the uk) that you remove and there you can unplug a connector to the battery, leave it 15-20 mins plug it back in and the gremlins should have left the van. It’s like unplugging your router. Read about it in the hand book, they don’t make it obvious but there are KZread videos about it and it got us out of trouble when traveling in France earlier this year. Good luck, this may not have helped this time but good to know for the future x
That trickle charger won’t charge until the battery is above a certain voltage. Flashing LED indicates the battery is not charging. I’d recommend a good digital voltmeter.

@@Wanderlocal, but I don’t think you tried to charge the cassis battery; just the one under the hood? Best of luck getting it going! We’re pulling for you.
I hope it’s not THE END, but just the end for now. I can’t wait to hear what you will be doing next. The promise was so great for the van , and I was so looking forward to see the progress that you would be making. Keeping my fingers crossed that all turns out well and as it was meant to be.
Sounds like water got into the electrical system when it flooded. Hope you guys have some answers soon. ❤
It makes me so sad that y’all are going through this mayhem!
We’re speechless 😢sending you lots of prayers, ❤love and hugs!!
I wanted one of these, an Airstream Atlas actually, now I’m thinking do I really? Such a disappointment.
On a positive note you are in some of the most beautiful parts of California! As a kid we would go to Quincy every summer to restock ice and groceries for our 2 week tent camping trip. Here’s hoping everything gets worked out soon and you will be on the road in your van

🥰 Thank you so much for your kinds words. It really brightened up our day and we appreciate you. ❤️ Lauren, Daniel and Dash
It's interesting what happened. The chassis battery is completely drained. It won't let you start the engine. But it seems you can charge it using the house battery underneath the driver seat. Once you start the engine and let it run, that power should feed back to the house battery, and charge it. I'm not sure what I'm talking about. But it sounds interesting whatever you did. 📧📧📧👏👏👏👏
Did you check the fuses and breakers? A fuse change would be easy.

What a mess - so sorry guys! You all have the best attitudes! Big hugs
As I mentioned 6 days ago but no one understands, that this is NOT an Airstream issue. It is a Mercedes Sprinter problem with the Auxiliary Battery under the driver’s seat malfunction - ours died last year and we had to be towed twice. It was a quick fix by the Mercedes service - one that understands Sprinter vans.
@Wanderlocal
10 ай бұрын
Onoroffthegrid, how did they fix it? You'll see in a coming video that they told us it was a software malfunction and that a software update fixed it all. Is that what happened with yours too?
@onoroffthegrid
10 ай бұрын
@@Wanderlocal this was not a software issue. The Auxiliary Battery is under the driver’s seat and was corroded by moisture despite the fact it never got exposed to any water or spills. Bill Belner at Mercedes San Jose replaced the battery and we were on our way. We had so much trouble w that 2020 Atlas that we sold it. We bought a 2023 Atlas with the E1 package. We picked it up 2 weeks ago and found that the brake lights were not working - incorrectly wired at Jackson. Being fixed now by Airstream Phoenix.
I feel so bad for all the problems you're having. Things have to get better!
Have you ever thought about purchasing an older Airstream Trailer (anything prior to 2018) and a diesel pusher? It would give you a lot more room for the baby and be a lot more reliable than what you currently have. Seems like this would be the best way to go for all three of you. The alternative appears to be changing the name of your channel to "Wandergarage!". Sorry, couldn't resist. Safe travels
I feel your pain - I also have a MB / Sprinter class C and always concerned about the parasites that are running when engine is off. I have a trickle charger attached to the fire wall under the hood that is directly wired to the coach battery. When at a campground or home I will always plug it in a power outlet keeping it fully charged. During the winter months the coach will sit 2 - 3 weeks idle and never had a battery issue.
You can put the Van in standby mode while camping to prevent draining the chassis battery
Oh my goodness!!! I’m praying the mechanics can figure out the problem and fix it so it last for multiple years ❤
Hang in there you 3. It will get fixed and you’ll be on your way. You’re in a beautiful part of Northern CA. Are you planning to head to Chico or Mt. Lassen?
My heart goes out to you guys. I would take FULL advantage of that insurance plan for repairs and drop that van in airstreams lap. Let the experts figure it out. Put your family back on track. Don’t waste anymore time. It’s under warranty. Plain and simple. Good luck. 👍🏾🍀
We are so sorry you are having problems with your new van. We know you were so excited to get it. Hope someone can figure it out.

Ed and Sue, thank you! We're keeping our fingers crossed too!
Battery Tenders are not meant to be chargers but when you have no other option certainly worth a shot. I have replaced 3 city water inlets on my 2020 FC 27 in three years. I have had numerous water leak repairs. I feel your frustration and admire your relative calmness.
The wipers look like they're on try moving it and see what happens The battery should not be showing 0.9 V
Its cursed. I’ve learned a lot from both of you, and definitely RVing would be hard for 1 person (me), even worse when you have a 300k RV with a lot of tech. Sorry Daniel and Lauren.
Lauren , I agree, the van is possessed! My heart is breaking for you. Have couple more beers and deep breaths. I am sending prayers and hugs, I wish there was something I could do to help 😢🙏❤️❤️❤️

Do not let Dash play with that steering wheel, to much computer things
I’m willing to bet that your starter is fine. You just have a dead battery. All of those errors are simply caused by the battery not able to supply the correct voltage to the various sensors and computers. You need a big jump pack, jump the battery directly, and get back to wandering!!
Possessed, lol. Bless you all for your patience. I would've been through 12 bags of chips, and a case of red bull!

Hang in there guys! This definitely does suck but you guys have made it through tougher situations (freezing in Texas) than this! It was hard seeing D so down but I know the problem will be solved. So smart getting the super good protection package and you’ll be fixed up very soon. Your pal John.

Good luck to you all!
The chasis battery may be a bad battery. Happened to us. Put in a new one, and it's been working perfectly. ❤
We had a 2020 Atlas and last year we were stalled with the message: Auxiliary battery malfunction Service required do not shift gears Active distance assist inoperative CoachNet towed the Atlas to Mercedes Airstream San Jose and the problem was a corroded Auxiliary battery which is under driver seat. It was fixed by Bill Belner at Mercedes San Jose. This is not an Airstream issue, it is a Mercedes problem.
Just one day at a time. . . one day at a time!
Good luck my friends! Stay safe
I would be taking it back immediately, the dlrshp should be covering the cost of this, wow 😳.... I'm so sorry... Much luv from Colorado ❤️
Ok guys there are some solutions here. The sliding door can still be opened using the access area just below the push button door handle. There you will find a pin on the left side and a round knob to its right. Pull the pin up, it is like the pins on your two cab doors. The round knob is the electric door motor disconnect. Look closely and you will find that there are two positions. Rotate the knob from auto to manual and the door can now be opened manually. You can also operate the rear doors by sliding a small horizontal locking lever mounted just below the rear door handle. The two cab doors can always be opened independently of the electrical system by using the manual door handles. By now you have figured that the chassis electrical and the house Volta systems are entirely separate. The Volta even has its own engine alternator for recharging. The sliding door operates on the chassis system while the sliding step operates on the Volta system. Normally one of your roof solar panels would keep the chassis battery charged but with the hail damage that may be compromised. Each time you open and close the sliding door you drain the chassis battery. Normally shore power will only charge the house Volta system and not the chassis battery. I doubt very much that there is anything wrong with your engine starter, as the battery has likely been depleted. I highly recommend "YOU NOT" ground tow your Sprinter. The easiest solution would have been, and still is, to go to your local auto parts store with your current battery, have it tested, and if required replace it. Do that before anything else! The small battery tender you were using really is trickle charger, and not up to the task of starting a high compression diesel engine. It is frustrating to see your trials, but part of the problem is that you appear to have not gotten a thorough briefing by the sales department. I also have a 2023 Sprinter RV much like yours so if you like you can pm me. Best of luck.

Oh no,Dash is going to be a granola criminal! Sorry to hear about the van. A bad starter would not keep the chassis batteries from charging. More diagnostic is needed. Good luck!
Sorry to hear about your trials. You are handling it well. Thankful you have good insurance and the worst of it is all the inconvenience.
We had a brand new Odyssey motorhome(Back in the day) we drove it from CA to FL w/many stop in-between. We left Nashville when the motorhome's engine stopped. We had it towed to Jackson and we stayed at a hotel there for a wk. We had a 2 yr old son. We were lucky that we stayed at the Casey Jones Motel and they had a buffet ea day. My son learned to love catfish, fried okra,& hushpuppies. It was quite the experience, making it more worrisome w/a toddler. So I do know what you guys are going thru. You will laugh one day about this!
OMG Good luck hope it goes well 🎉🎉🎉
Check the wipers to see if they are drawing power and draining the battery so that it will not start the van or charge You should not let Dadh play with the van he may have pushed the wrong button
It looks like the battery is dead did you leave the battery on when you left to get fixed? Can you pull the the fuse for the wipers it maybe pulling power and keeping it from changing. If batterys are at a point they will not charge. It looks like both batteries are gone if you are showing o.9 volts they should be higher
Ugh… I have no other words. * Dash is sooo cute! ** Stay strong and turn this rig in and get your Classic back OR… move into a Class A like we did from our Classic and never looked back.
I feel so bad for you guys that van is ridiculous. It certainly isn't worth $300,000 maybe $30,000. I would definitely trade that in for something different. I really hope things work out for you guys going forward. 😊
Oh my gosh!!!! Murphy lives with you!!!

You might want to check under the passenger mat to see if dash snuck something under there. Too bad you don't have a way to hand crank the engine to start.
Maybe and you probably already thought of it but maybe the on board computer is malfunctioning! Just food for thought.
Heart goes out to you....definitely not fun. Great thing you have Dash to keep it all in perspective....and yes, it's only a van. I'm guessing you have electrical shorts from the water leak. It's possible the hail damaged the solar system and that caused the issue, but those systems are typically isolated and that would be a long shot. Whatever it is, I sincerely hope they can solve it and repair it quickly.
So sorry this happened. For your sake I really hope you can use the lemon law to get out of this. Something so expensive, should not be this much of a headache. 😢
Might check the battery terminals see if there loose that with cause issues
Ok, this situation is really bugging me. One, your safety…you can’t manually open a door….that is a crazy safety design flaw! Expecting you guys to fix it after paying that much ! Typical dealer make the sale then they fall apart on service after the sale. If I were the dealer I would fly a technician to your location. At this point if I had the money I would not buy that unit from that dealer. We have a problem with a dealer here in Houston they make the sell then when you need service forget it. Sorry just venting at the way they are taking care of you including Mercedes not jumping in. Fred in Texas
