The 10 Things That All Flat Earthers Say

So it's been a minute since I made my response to the Globebusters, and for two months now I've had to listen to flat earthers spew the same nonsense in the comment section of that video, day after day. Now that I'm intimately familiar with their most popular and most ridiculous talking points, I thought I would put them all together in one clip for a vigorous debunking.
My original flat earth video:

There, congrats you are now going fast in a certain direction. Can you feel it? Barely? Yeah thats because of you size proportional to the acceleration. Repeat after me: You can't feel constant velocity, you can only feel acceleration & deceleration.

The change is not fast enough to trigger the puny motion sensors in our ears.

This really is 8th Grade Earth Science. I taught it for 40 years. Every year I had at least one student who had difficulty getting over the idea that rivers could flow north. Usually, I had them point north, and then up. Most then realized they’re not the same. My favorite was the student who insisted the sun wasn’t a star. When I asked him to explain, he said, “because it’s not ⭐️ shaped…”

Yeah. It's understandable bc of our map protections. Even us that grasped the concept of no directions in space and no bottom of a globe tended to still think of the west to east, north to south, left right up down map when picturing the world. It can be tough to break. Lol. Like the furthest eastern point of the US is actually in Alaska bc of the 180th meridian passing through the Aleutian Islands. But that would feel "west" or "left". Lol

I had one flathead trying to convince me that gravity did not exist. I made short work of him Him: Gravity doesn't exist Me: How do we stay on the ground then? Him: Air pressure. Me: If it were air pressure, then we'd all be floating because the air pushes against us from all sides equally. This is scientifically proven. Thus we'd be at an equilibrium and be floating. And we could then "fly" anywhere we wanted Him: No...the pressure pushes down towards the earth. The weight of it pushes us down Me: Do you hear yourself? "The WEIGHT of the air pushes DOWN...." In order for it to push us "down" there has to be something pushing the air down towards the earth. Why doesn't it push us up? Him: I dunno. Maybe because there's something pushing the air down towards the earth? Me: Like......? Him: ..... And poof...he was gone like a fart in the wind....

Yep, and they're typically emotion-based thinkers, rather than logic-based ones. Generally, they really *_want_* the Earth to be flat, because it validates them personally, in some way.

I was a substitute school teacher for a number of years. I was substituting a 5th grade class, and while discussing the story the class had read, I made mention that the Earth was round. Lesson done, recess bell rings, I let the students out. A boy carrying a basketball stops at the door and says to me, _"The Earth is round?"_ *"Just like your basketball,"* I replied. He had this look of concentration. I do not think he ever considered what the earth's shape actually was until then. I told him I wanted to show him something and went outside to the yard. Pointed to the sun "There's the sun," and then had him stand so he was looking 90 degrees away from it. Took the ball and placed it literally on the side of his head. *"See the ball?"* _"Yes."_ *"It's all in shade?"* _"Yes."_ *"That is night."* I then turned him towards the sun with the ball still on the side of his head. *"You just had a sunrise and it is now daytime."* Just seeing understanding click in his head has been one of my proudest moments.

Prof Dave, I have a quick gravity question. You ever seen that experiment where they drop a feather and a hammer in a vacuum and they fall at the same rate cuz there is no air resistance? Is that how that works? Shouldn't the hammer fall faster cuz it has more mass and therefore accelerates more rapidly? Why do they fall at the same rate in that vacuum? Or am I confused and thinking of something else? Thanks for your work, Prof. I watch your old classics all the time. Keep debunking these conmen!! What reasons can you give for valuing reason. If someone does not value the underlying principles of intellectual integrity, "conversation" is over before it even begins. These people top out at "able to make wordy sounds." The discrepancy of intelligence among the human species is really staggering for someone nestled comfortably in the valley of Dunning-Kruger. I can't imagine how the most intelligent among us must feel about the least... I really expect people that dense to be like, learning disabled or something... but some of them sound like they have at least a drop of wit to them and that's the scariest part methinks. I cannot believe that in this day and age there are still people that can possibly believe it. The education system has failed them, but there's something else at play. Lack of natural curiosity, belief in dogmas, desire to know better and feel better than others without, you know, making effort to become an actual expert?

actualy not: the flat earth "theory" is a mentaly protection for a few poor souls out there. in their mind, the Mankind is the center of the existence, they are made from good (or from something other, higher existenz), and is made as a Mirror of those higher existence.. to tell them, they are just naked apes, that have learnd to form complex grunts to communicate ideas, but are basicly still just the cousins of schimpanseas, that hurts their feeling. The flat earth theory is not the reason or even the goal of those people, its just a tool to ignore the evolution theory.. that thing, that they realy hate and are afraid of.. because.. the universe, the evolution of the human from some unicellular, who just want to be more, than a unicellular in a pile of dirt - they made them feel.. well.. small.. that is what they are afraid of. the evolution theory and the fact, that the earth is just one small ball in a small galaxy in a big pile of balls and galaxies are two the Insults to humanity that Sigmund Freud postulates.
