The good news about the beaver-sourced "natural vanilla" is that it is substantially more expensive even than normal vanilla so you'll really only ever find it in expensive perfumes. It's a shocking truism on the internet, but in all practicality it's not something people have to worry about anymore given the economic realities of each source of vanilla flavoring.

I know this video is a bit older but...... The Fruity Pebbles work great if you do a 50/50 to traditional rice crispy cereal. It helps to calm down the overly fruity flavor. Here in England, wheats are called Wheetbix. They look a little different, (but it's essentially the same thing) but it's a very normal thing to have for breakfast. People often have it with warm milk, and sometimes people microwave it!
@moodycowcrafts4862
Жыл бұрын
The ones they use in the video are clearly mini *shredded wheats* though - not wheetabix at all! Wheetabix is a completely different kind of cereal to shredded wheat: one (wheetabix) is made of compacted flakes in a block and the other (shredded wheats) is a package of thin twigs. The taste, texture and look is so different I don't understand how you equate them to being 'essentially the same thing'
@cubisttubist
6 ай бұрын
@@moodycowcrafts4862 I think they were talking about when Katelyn mentioned the "one big loaf" wheats which I was shocked that they found weird because apart from the slight change of flakes to twigs the concept is exactly what wheetabix are and they are extremely normal to have for breakfast here in the UK!

Same here. Fruity Pebble treats are amazing!
Tbh if you want them to be crunchy ( like almost all of them ) instead of trying by volume you should add the cereal by weight ( and having always the same weight by batch ) because some cereals have more surface area than others and so take more or less marshmellow to be covered, but except that, good video !
I once made Golden Graham treats with chocolate to get s'mores krispies. They were absolutely S tier. Didn't survive the meeting I made them for. Also, I wholeheartedly agree with Katelyn's cheese idea. Sorry Evan.
I think that breaking them into smaller pieces would have helped both the reeses and frosted mini wheats to be much better. You can also make your own marshmallow
I was always told with making rice crispies to keep adding in ceral until it becomes possible to add more because theres not enough marshmellow, and I wonder if that's why some of them were so goey. I think the marshmellow to ceral ratio changes based on the cereal. Might play around at home, this looks fun! Great video
Tip for fruity pebble rice crispys, I used to make them a lot for get together. I mix rice crispies and fruity pebbles and boom. Not too sweet with the flavor of “rainbows” I haven’t finished the video but I wanted to comment this. It’s my favorite rice crispies :D

The Beaver Vanilla was a thing back before Synthetic Vanilla was discovered, but only for a very short time because it was as difficult to harvest as the Orchid Vanilla, but in a different way, obviously. Most of the vanilla flavored things you'll find is made with Synthetic Vanilla (Liquid Vanilla Extract) unless it specifies Vanilla Bean (Orchid Bean)

@mwater_moon2865

Yeah, but the artificial vanilla (aka vanillin) still comes from wood pulp or crude oil. It's literally a by-product of paper making (Lignin, the stuff that yellows cheap paper if it's not removed) and in the 70s and 80s, a single pulp and paper mill in Thorold, Ontario supplied 60% of the world market for synthetic vanillin. (yes, this still counts as "natural") OR left over from making gasoline and plastic, approximately 85% of vanillin is synthesized in a two-step process from the petrochemicals guaiacol and glyoxylic acid.
Theory: cereal surface area is important. Some just look too gooey and need more cereal to have optimal cronch.

I'm re-watching this again but when you talked about savoury cheese krispie treats, I talked to my mom about it and she said 'Cream cheese could work easily' and honestly! I can agree with this! Cream cheese softens pretty easily, you can whip it a little to fluff it up and chilling it keeps its softness while keeping it held together. Maybe a bit of mozzarella mixed in for stringiness? and obviously-pretzels! I think the little cube bite-sized ones would work best, you don't want big chunks.

The ultimate cereal treat I make is the Golden-Grahams S'mores treats. If you're having a family cookout, rather than having kids around a firepit with sticks and flaming marshmallows and stuff, I find it far less stress to just make a big pan of S'mores bars for everyone. Absolute favorite though is the "no-cook cookies" that are basically chocolate, oatmeal, and peanut butter.
I quite like doing this with plain cheerios, add a little peanut butter to the marshmallow, and when adding it to the form, throw in some chocolate chips if you like. With the fruity pebbles, do 1/5th fruity 4/5ths regular rice crispies. You get a 'fun-fetti' look with the punch up of flavor/sweetness without it being overpowering. Great way to balance out the flavor and give a little fun jump for kids parties.

I make a snack mix like this, but with the mallow bits (aka freeze dried marshmallows) like in hot cocoa mix (you can buy just the mallows on Amazon.) I melt the chocolate and drizzle that over the golden grahams then sprinkle the mini mallows while it's still melty.
Yall are getting me through my surgery with your videos! All the different video types really helps me be able to just hit the next one and relax. I love you guys
I love the shot when Katelyn pours the cereal in the pot, it’s so satisfying
I think you should definitely try some more "generic" cereals for these: corn puffs, wheat puffs, plain rice puffs, and try some other less sweet things like Grape Nuts or the fried Chinese noodles that you make haystack cookies with. Still, if you're making them for kids, the Fruity Pebbles are the absolute best, kids love the rainbow treats and don't care about extra sickly sweet. For adults, coat them in dark chocolate to counter the sweet a bit and make them much easier to handle.

The literally did everything the wrong way with your supposed to make Rice Krispie treats. 1) do NOT melt marshmallows and butter on high heat (,they did) 2) do NOT add more than 1/3 of the cereal to the marshmallows at one time(they added it all) 3) do not pack the treats into the pan (they did. you'll end up with hard uneven treats) It was so frustrating to watch there be no consistency while these were being made and to watch that biggest same mistakes over and over and just not even attempt to figure out if they were doing something wrong

I don’t know about you guys but one time my grandma was trying to make homemade fruity pebble rice crispys and she accidentally mixed the frosted crispy cereal (it’s just like regular rice crispy cereal but sweetened) and the fruity pebbles in one mix and added the marshmallow and made the bars and even though it was a mistake bc the recipe calls for only fruity pebbles, the bars were amazing! I know they were eating a LOT of rice krispies so they had to pace themselves, but the Squidward bites are still so funny to me. 😂
Try the "loaf" wheat it's really good (with an adult taste buds) with warmed milk on cold mornings. I used to have it as an after dinner "dessert" in winter.
For less sweet marshmallows, you can make your own pretty easily (only needs 5 ingredients). That way you can make it at the level of sweetness (or other cursed flavor profile 😉) you want. You can even skip the last step of forming the little pillows and just keep it as marshmallow fluff! Custom Rice Krispie easy mode 😎

The fruity pebble rice krispy treats the bakery near me sells that are made with homemade marshmallow (like you suggested), brown butter (which adds a bit of savoriness), and then a sprinkle of sea salt (which tones down the sweetness). It turns them from cloyingly sweet to rich and decadent.

I was coming here to say this. Egg whites/ meringue is the marshmallow substitute they are looking for. E&K could make their own flavor marshmallows i.e. salty or maybe a nice vinegar flavor; at the very least making your own marshmallows lets you set the sweetness level.

For years I’ve always made krispies with Chex cereal, but just the plain ones the wheat, rice and corn, they’re low in sugar so they make a great krispy. I also love the combination of sweet and salty so if I’m making a full batch I’ll add a half cup of peanut butter in with the butter and let both melt then add the marshmallows you should really try it and skip the egg krispies please!

Yeah my mom always uses 1/2 a cup of PB to regular Rice Krispies, she uses a little less butter to make room for it. Very much the bomb. I could see where the plain chex would work, but I tried it once with the cinna chex and while it wasn't Baaad per se, it wasn't as good as the PB Rice Krispies. And I second your skipping of the egg, like maybe with cooked regular rice, but not the Krispies, please not the Krispies.
The natural vanilla flavour fact is one of my favourites to tell people! As soon as I realised that where Katelyn was going I couldn't stop smiling 😂
27:02 As someone who actually *likes* Frosted Flakes, as soon as I saw that they were going to rice-krispie them I legitimately cackled. Guessing now that the resulting treat will induce a diabetic coma if you so much as *look* at it too long. 😂
I actually agree with Katelyn on the cheese substitute! It's the savory equivalent of marshmallow binders, cheddar being the best one. I would never swap out the marshmallows for the cheddar in the cereal experiment though, ew :(

Marshmallows have many of the same ingredients as gummies. The difference is that marshmallows are whipped. Most of the air is lost when making treats. So if making treats with gummies, you would want to replace by weight not volume.

@@EvanAndKatelyn2 that is why you would want to replace the marshmallows by weight not volume. Marshmallows are whipped sugar and gelatin with other things, but have similar ingredients to gummies. Gummies just have a higher proportion of gelatin to other ingredients. If done right, they could be a less sweet alternative for cereal treats, but maybe not. We wouldn't know until someone is brave enough to try.
