I work with people with disabilities and have to use thickeners all the time. Thickit is basically cornstarch and continues to thicken and can change the taste of drinks. If you don't drink it within minutes your drinks will turn to pudding. You need to get SimplyThick which is a gel. It doesn't change the taste, you can make large batches of drinks at once, and will stay the same thickness for up to 2 days! Far superior to thick it but the cost also reflects it. did you know you can use food processors and thickening agents for food? Liquid ham paste for the supervisor! You could make mystery foods and have each other guess what it is. It's fun and disgusting at once! We had to take classes to learn how to keep the food/drinks tasty even when changing the consistency. It is a real skill that can be fun to learn.

I love that y'all always mention that it's for a medical purpose. I always get a little miffed when people don't understand what it's for and make nasty comments about it. If you don't understand why it exists, it's probably not for you! Also if you ever do try thickening soda or other fizzy drinks, do it in a blender. The sodas will bubble and fizz otherwise. It reacts similarly to a mentos in coke. When I had to make thickened sodas, for my hospital kitchen job, I'd do them in a blender to avoid making a mess. It always trapped the bubbles in the now thick liquid. Dysphagia is such an interesting condition, only because how it's treated. Here! We made your drink thick so you can feel it! That or your food gets minced or even pureed. I do not miss plating the premade pureed fish molds.

My favorite Extremely Cursed thickened liquid I've ever seen someone try is pickle juice, purely for the name thickle juice. Also I'm with Evan on the frozen orange juice, though I've never eaten straight up concentrate. I remember when I was little, pouring orange juice into ice cube trays, covering with plastic wrap, and sticking toothpicks into each one so when they froze, they became teeny tiny orange popsicles. Even now, 20+ years later, I sometimes find myself craving those little frozen orange cubes.

Fyi, you can buy pre-thickened liquids. It will even say what thickness it is on the bottles. It's wayyyy easier than making it yourself and, it's usually more accurate to what people need. I used to work in a long-term care facility ("nursing home") and we had an un-opened bottle of thickened apple juice that was about to expire so we couldn't give it to residents. No one wanted it and I ended up taking it home cause...I was a broke college student at the time. It usually doesn't taste the same, but it can really help people continue to eat and drink properly without choking or aspirating. Highly recommend buying the pre-made products. It's usually more expensive, but worth it for getting consistently thickened liquids.

For someone who chokes over liquids, this would be a life savor and an ability to taste some of the flavors they enjoyed. I'm glad we don't have to drink our liquids thickened. 🤢 We actually use V8 as our juice base for chili. It adds a punch of flavor and more veggies. I'm with Evan, condensed OJ is quite yummy! 🍊 I'm glad you are bringing this drink option to the general public and trying it with a variety of drinks!👍
