Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Hey everyone, it’s Randy! Today’s footage further validates what we thought we saw occurring on the ground in the GigaPress area and that is that there were in fact two excavations taking place for new machine foundations. We get a fairly decent look at them from afar today and can for sure confirm this is the case. As always, we check out the rest of the site on our normal path and see the progress along the way.
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The GigaPress area shows the two new excavation areas already having mud slabs poured and other minor concrete work done. The northernmost one is also currently having rebar installed. The roof again shows the progress of laying the WWM and it looks like this next section is ready to have concrete poured.
- The BIW east side shows work has started on digging out the ground directly in front of the loading bays in the area of the ground-level walls we discussed earlier this week. Further south, the wall panel installation near stamping has now been completed!
- The southern gap still has the concrete and drilled shaft work underway on the south end of the pit and the work creating the footings still taking place at the north end.
- The GA west side shows the latest work happening with the road prep along this side. The wall panel installation work shows eleven more panels compared to yesterday have been installed, but it’s hard to notice unless you compare what we see here to the previous day’s footage. The new glass we saw delivered yesterday is now visible and these look like much wider panes of glass compared to what we see installed and actually reminds me of one of the test panes that was up towards the south end for the longest time.
- Lastly, we see the progress of the space frames being installed in the northern gap and they are almost to the end of the structural steel!

    9:30 Far left and far right of screen. Someone joked a few times that it seems whenever a roadbed is prepared, that is the signal for the underground utilities guys to hurry over and dig it back up..... We see on the left another digging up of the roadbed prepared last week, and the one on the far right that was prepared this week is now also being trenched......

    1:27 new glass is for the tall sections of the irregular concrete siding on the west side. The window is sideways on it's "side". Rotate the pane 90 degrees so it's tall vertically, and you'll see it fits in the taller sections without concrete siding.

    7:33 Two observations First, everyone notice that the southern alley pit narrows significantly on both sides about the same point as the transition from the stamping cathedral and the body in white. I've noticed it for a while but I thought that when they got down that far that they would widen it to continue with the drilling of the deep concrete piers. But in this shot, they clearly haven't widened it and are drilling piers no longer in line with the northern end of the pit. hmmm. Doesn't make sense and definitely not normal. Second: At the top of the image we can see the black pipes that were previously laid down beside the GA building, covered up, then dug back up. Since they aren't in the trash, it looks like they may reuse them? In addition, I always thought it weird when they installed them the first time down the side of the GA building because that meant that they would be unable to install any building posts over them. Maybe someone figured that out and they are going to put columns down the edge.

  • @davidharris7249

    @davidharris7249

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I had noticed the narrowing, too. I think it just means that they need the 9-pier foundations for very heavy equipment, and the 4-pier foundations for lighter equipment. There is no reason the alley has to be uniform. Perhaps the narrower section will need additional posts installed, and that necessitates moving the pipes, or not.

    Dale, I had noticed that they had used plastic pipe (The Black Pipe) for this water also. After thinking about it I realized that there was no metal used anywhere in the treatment system, maybe they do not want metal ions in this water that is used in the paint process.

    I keep wondering if the west wall of the stamping building, which is still paneled in concrete, will be an exterior wall in the final configuration so a courtyard will be there. The blue wall would be inside of the finished structure. Just speculating.

  • @LinasVepstas

    @LinasVepstas

    They previously added unused long rebar posts along the west side of GA. Sheathed them in plastic, and buried them. Everyone thought that was mysterious, except for Dessie who said that they'll be dug up later, and wired into new piers. Well, later is arriving. The only problem is -- that 8' black pipe is in the way of doing this. So, here's what I think is happening: the black pipe gets ripped out. The buried half-finished piers will be dug up and finished. Then the black pipe will be reinstalled. What a hassle. Only problem is that small freshly laid green sewage pipe will now be in the way. Heh.

  • @DessieDoolan

    @DessieDoolan

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@LinasVepstas The thing about those footings with the sheathed rebar is that the spacing doesn't line up with the new footings in the pit. So the 'just in case' footing design might not have worked out entirely. They might not utilize them at all. They did use them further north: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iK2DuMlrhq-TaZc.html Did you notice the short drilling rig working under the new structure just north of the pit at 8:15. If they knew 3 months ago when they constructed that row of footings what they were going to do 5m further south they would have constructed them differently. It's a design in progress.

    With the CT reportedly being delayed to late 2022 does anyone think that the CT will be built in a separate building? I can see the current building just being used for Model Y and later Model 3. The last shareholder deck still had CT in development and not in construction. Steel Dynamics Sinton plant is still under construction as well.

    1.5 million vehicles per year at Giga Austin. AKA 150% more vehicles than Fremont and Shanghai combined. We can figure out plant capacity based upon the number of gigapresses. People seem to be settling in on 200k - 250k castings per year per press and 2 presses per car (front and back casting). Its looking to me like 8 casting machines in the first row and 6 in the second row. If that is correct then there would be 7 pairs. Total factory output between 1.4 million and 1.75 million vehicles per year. I am guessing cyber trucks will be a little slower due to the size = slightly slower press throughput.

    What we do know from the footing locations is that there will be columns that are offset from existing columns to the north. The east-west spacing will be wider. However, the north-south spacing will be closer together then existing columns. Not enough information yet to make a prediction.

    Has anyone determined why the spacing of the footings in the big pit completely deviate from the rest of the complex? What’s going in and above the big pit anyway? Also, the big new windows might be installed vertically in the big upper gap on the west wall.

  • @DavidJohnson-tv2nn

    @DavidJohnson-tv2nn

    Anything at this point are just wild guesses. But the increase in column spacing in the east-west direction may indicate a need to accommodate wide equipment or a need for a wide work space. However... The column spacing in the north-south direction is closer together. Which may indicate a need to support heavy loads. To complicate matters, the east-west column spacing changes towards the south as the pit narrows. So my limited speculation at this point is... * Possible bridge crane * Possible need for a wide work space or wide equipment. * Possible heavy loads. I realize this doesn't help much, but there isn't enough known to make more accurate guesses. Furthermore, the purpose of the excavation remains unknown. Because the changes in column spacing could have been done without excavating the pit.

    They are roof trusses. Designed to span the wide gap. The first floor bridge crane required removal of the center row of columns from the design. Making the gap too wide for conventional steel beams.

  • @FutureAZA

    @FutureAZA

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@DavidJohnson-tv2nn This is the correct answer. You can get plenty of load bearing capacity from I-Beams, but with a span that wide, they'd be an oversized load. Unless you require substantial roof integrity, like to hang equipment, a spaceframe is plenty adequate at a fraction of the price, especially on larger spans.
