    Would it be wise to turn on the water and flush out the valve body before putting in the new parts, especially after wire brushing the diverter?

    You really had "the technique" with taking that old hardware apart! I have a well with hard water and when I finally got my shower valve taken apart; I used plumber`s grease liberally so I would never have to go through that again! My unit had an escutcheon with a gasket behind it to keep water out of the wall, but my gasket was applied to the shower surface and was visible upon disassembly. My dog once buried a fried chicken drumstick.. Two weeks later he remembered it, dug it up, and ate it. I was amazed at how well-preserved it looked! Dirt is amazing stuff! In parts of Tennessee, they even eat black dirt! Kaolin (white clay) in pharmaceutical grade is an antidote for absorbing poison. (I ramble).

    Dogs do certain things due to survival instinct. Before settling down in their beds to sleep they will walk around it in circles...funny looking! But that is to drive any snakes out of the bed of boughs they used to sleep on. And after they take a crap...ever see them "kicking dirt" on it with their hind legs?

    Mass is the land of Symmons shower valves. Last hotel I stayed in out there even had one!

    I recently stayed at a Holiday Inn in Somerville, Massachusetts. They had Symmons Shower Valves. Used to work on them in Older High End Homes in Washington DC. I homemade a Slide Hammer with inter-changeable ends on it for pulling apart the Symmons and the Moens.

    The symmons metal handles almost never come off. Dissimilar metals oxidize

  • @joeg9920
    @joeg99203 жыл бұрын

    Those Babbit or white metal handles are the worse to get off without breaking, they seem to weld themselves onto the stem. Then you need to change out the valve stem more $$$. I think that's why the made the replacement out of plastic. Nice job as usual.

    Another job well done! ...and Molly spooked me. Hard scene cut from a tub to a monster filling the screen. It was just Molly. Wow! If it won't come off, break it off. Must be a professional technique. I never considered doing that. Is it really true that two handled shower faucets are discontinued? That's what a plumber told me. I would have to get an old stock job off of eBay or pay thousands of dollars to have a guy with a diamond saw cut a new hole in my shower wall for the single knob. I went with the cheaper option of just not having a water restrictor. I just put a water saver on the shower head because the force is like a fire hydrant. We have 100 psi water pressure here in Tulsa. A plumber said that he couldn't guarantee any work because of the high water pressure. I never seen a plumber test the water pressure before doing something. I know plumbing fixtures are recommended at 75 psi, but the city said that it was supposed to be at 100 psi. I wouldn't know how to install a regulator with the main line because the main water line goes directly into the cement slab foundation. I guess I'd have to dig up the broken ground valve next to the house and replace it. I don't know. It's in a cement cylinder thing that gives access to the valve in the ground. We just turn it off at the meter. I hate doing that, but we aren't rich. Anyway, the bath tub fills up fast now. No regrets there.

    Is there a specific torque for the diverter valve? I rebuilt mine but it still leaks out of the tub spout when the shower is on.
