Those "Slip couplings are nice when you cannot slide a copper pipe back enough to get it in the female end. Here in Canada it's hard to get them couplings so I use a round file and file off the little indent inside the coupling! Works every time.

Steve: I love watching your videos and have learned a lot from you. In accessing the valve from the back wall try this. Cut the drywall by angling the saw outwards so that the cut is not perpendicular to the face of the drywall. This will allow the removed piece to be re-installed without falling into the opening. There is no need to cut to the studs and add in scab pieces for screws. By varying the mud thickness around the edges you can get the face of the removed piece flush with the rest of the wall. No screws or extra work needed. I've been using this method for years.

Yeah, I was told by a licensed plumber that a person should take out the cartridge so it doesn't melt when soldering it, just like when soldering a valve, you should open the valve all the way, so the washer inside the valve doesn't melt. Good job Steve.

Symmons Alura style trim plate 7” diameter vs 5.5” on Origins (temptrol) Model. $160 at HD. Moen = 6” diameter. Symmons also has a very nice looking large oval Origins “remodel” plate (not the older style trapezoidal one) but last I looked they wanted almost $90 for it 🤷🏻‍♂️ definitely would get you out of a jamb with tight access, but I’d be hesitant to use it as a replacement for a standard trim plate when trying to keep the cost down. Guess it all depends on style and what’s in stock at your plumbing supply house.

I’m a master plumber, Moen is a bitch to get the cartridge out, the biggest issue with Delta’s is getting the retainer nut off . All faucets, when not properly maintained are difficult to take apart. BTW ! If you have taken apart as many Moens as I have you’ll know to have extra retention clips for when they fall out while attempting to get it out or even back in. All in all Moen and Delta are the best replacement anti-scald baseline faucets on the market.

Ream the copper hot/cold existing vertical lines, no reaming creates vortex, water flowing smoothly, then hits I'd/inside diameter lip. Vortex evolves, will burn holes within any new, and-or new copper fittings, this particular would be the new copper 90's. Friction from vortex, just like mountain streams, eroding rocks as hard as granite example.
