A plumber 15 years from now will be thanking ole Steve Lav for greasing them seats. Great video Steve!
The New England accent is the best. 🤩
Thank God that was mounted good in the wall. As tight as it was I thought it was going to break.
Wow, that's exactly the same setup as my leaking Temptrol handle. Even the bathtub is the same color! Tightening the packing nut stopped the leak, but within a few weeks, it started leaking again, and the packing nut was loose again.
That use of the easy out screw extractor was genius. I saw that and ran to my toolbox and found one. Worked like a charm
Between your video and a comment about Symmons warranty I was able to rebuild the valve for $0. Thank you!
Well there I was about to start taking my shower head apart to figure out why it was leaking. Good thing I found this video first. Looks like a job for a professional(one equipped with the right tools).
Steve is more than a professional plumber, he's got skills
Thanks for the video. Not being a plumber, I always learn from your videos.
You really covered all so well. Every step of removing and reinstalling. Nicest video overview on plumbing I have seen. I don't have this buy sister does and waiting for friend to replace valve. I know I could also do this, right down my diy easy install. Also nice Shower Faucet. Not sure how that diverter works but if I ever need new, will look for similar model. Thanks
That valve has happened to me too. I had to force it out. But it came out with some help. Those type of vavles do take a bit for the shower pipe to drain. Thank you for an easy way to get it out next time.
I wanna give you a big thank first and then I share my experience here for people. I live in a condo (1st floor). There was a big bathroom repair upper floor and apparently they cut down copper pipes all day long. They had to shut off water for entire lines (my unit and other units above me) because we share the main valve to shut the water off. After the construction was over, I used bath tub and I saw a lot of copper debris coming out of the faucet. And then the dripping started. I found out that copper debris were stacked inside the Symmons valve so the cartridge couldn't be fully closed. I changed the cartridge and also changed hot and cold seats anyway, as it was a good chance to change those probably after more than a decade. Note that recent Symmons shower diverter is (RTS 126 or something) different from the previous one (TA52 or something. There is TA52A and TA52B.). Unless hot/cold seats are really stuck like in this video, this is really easy job.
Good repair Steve.

Everywhere I've rented seems to have Symmons shower valves. I think they work pretty well until they start to bind up. Probably depends how much gravel and shit is in water.
Excellent vid!!! Thank you Steve!
Excellent video, very thorough.
Came across this one again. Thx for the vid
