I have three. My first two were born in the hospital with meds, epidural, the whole nine yards. My third I had at home. The worst part was the contractions. Pushing her out (it felt like she shot out of me with a "whoosh" and everything...this was a water birth so she didn't just shoot across the room 😂) was nothing compared to that. I'm definitely not planning on having a fourth child. 😂 If I do end up going down that crazy road (apparently more than three is just wild and my three are already individually very wild...so, no...) I'm having another home birth. Maybe... 🥝💚🖤

I'm glad you're feeling better. Sepsis is no joke. I've been a nurse for 18 years. And I'm so sorry you went through that, and I hear your appreciation for your nurse, Daniel. I'll tell you. We forget. We've seen thousands of patients over the years, and we do remember a lot of patients. The enema that went sideways is just Tuesday, though. The poo-flinging guy with the major league baseball arm stands out. The boyfriend that comes to the ER with a shovel to finish the brain injury that didn't actually kill his intended target stands out. Bad enema Tuesday, though, don't worry about it. I'm sure that he will remember that you were a kind person. Honestly. Rest well.

Holy shit Theresa, sepsis is an extreme emergency and I am SO grateful that your mom pushed you to go to the hospital, sepsis can kill in as little as 12 hours from when it STARTS!! The fact that you had such serious symptoms, of severe abdominal pain and high fever, for a couple DAYS before you got help, my god, you felt like you were dying because you very literally WERE dying!! It sounds like you dealt with the whole ordeal like a trooper, even holding on to your special brand of humour. Sepsis is one of those things I've just sort of known about since I was very young, not for any particular reason, no one I knew had suffered it, its just information that has been in my head for as long as I can remember. Because of this I have saved three lives by recognizing the signs of an infection beginning to spread into the blood: First was a past boyfriend, he had suffered a stab wound (during a mugging) to his GOOCH about a year prior, and the old healed wound suddenly flared up with infection. He came home from work a couple days later and immediately collapsed onto the floor 😱 He was refusing to go to the hospital, but I insisted and got a friend of his to drive us to a hospital in a nearby small town, because he would have been seen much faster and gotten much better care there compared to the nearby hospital which has a reputation for being horrible. I'll spare you the gross details of what happened while he was there... Unless anyone REALLY wants to know! Its very much a "not while eating" story :p Second time was while visiting my mom, we were about to leave to drive 5 hours away to visit my grandparents for Christmas. One of her kitties had an abcess on his head from a cat bite wound, which is a not uncommon thing for outside cats (one of MANY outside dangers, keep your cats insisde if you can people!), and usually it can be handled at home with warm compresses to help the abcess burst and drain. But this time, shortly before we were going to leave, the kitty got super out of it, lethargic, clearly not well. I insisted that we go to the vet instead of leaving for a few days, and refused to listen to my mom's protests (she has issues with taking illnesses seriously 😕). I even paid for the vet care with the Christmas present money I had saved, and was like sorry family, no presents for you this year, I saved kitty's life instead. He got a shot of an antibiotic that stays effective for a number of days and was quickly on the mend. Third time was a roomate and good friend who desperately needed dental care and had developed a severe abcess. (Lol actually, all three stories involve abcesses!). Again this was right before Christmas, and by the time I was leaving to visit my family my roommate's face had swollen up HUGE and he was feverish and all out of it. He was refising to go to the hospital and wouldn't take me seriously. I had to leave, but I told my boyfriend as I left "Get him to the hospital in the next 24 hours OR HE WILL DIE." My boyfriend forced our roommate to go, and when I came back from holidays the roommate laughed while recounting how the doctors told him he would have died if he had waited much longer to seek care!! So all that to say, sepsis is EXTREMELY serious, and knowing the signs should be taught in school IMO. Depsite all my knowledge of medical stuff and pushing people to seek help when they need it, I have been shocked at myself to find that I too refuse to go to the hospital when I need it. Hospitals being for some ungodly reason designed to be miserable in every way is certainly part of it, but there's still this strange instict to not go. And I've figured out what that probably is! Its leftover instincts that tell us to stay put when we are injured or sick. For millions of years that instinct would have been helpful, but our genetic instincts haven't yet caught up with the knowledge that we have hospitals now, and therefore LEAVING our homes is now the best thing to do when we are really unwell. Hopefully knowing this will help me short circuit that instinct that says to stay put, and I tell others in the hope it helps them too.

Girl you are LUCKY with the sepsis. My dad went into septic shock a couple years ago from a UTI he didn't feel any symptoms of (which is apparently common in older men), and it was some of the scariest shit ever. In the ER they literally told him if he had waited for two more hours to get help, he would have died. You may not have been that far off in thinking "this is the end". I am on a frequent flyer program with my hospital of choice, due to UTIs, stage IV ovarian cancer and assorted death by 1000 cuts associated with the whole mess. Nothing you talk about will stop me from eating😂. I'm a nurse, and I've seen, heard, smelled it all. I love hearing a patients perspective. I do procedures for patients utilizing a CT scanner. They inject IV contrast dye that makes you feel warm all over. And yes, saline is totally safe. If I forget my eye drops, for my dry eyes with contacts, I'll use saline at work. It's used to flush iv's, clean wounds, irritations, etc. I'm so happy you are feeling better, and I'm sorry you had to experience that. Also, narcotics (morphine) can also cause constipation. After one of my surgeries, I was sent home with pain meds, and I was constipated. I had my nurse friend go to the store and buy a bottle of magnesium citrate because I was so uncomfortable. I drank half the bottle. And it finally worked. It's not a fun feeling for sure! Take care now. ❤❤❤❤

My very good Judy's name is Daniel and he, too, is the embodiment of eeyore with dark glasses. Not a nurse though 😂 Oh, Pooh!

So glad you're ok! The enema story really made me mad. When I was on the floor, the first step was warmed up prune juice with a splash or OJ (it works). If we had to do an enema. we warmed it up first- makes a huge diff, and you NEVER just handed it to the pt to figure it out. Also, we call a CT for blockage a Scat Scan lol Healthcare is gross.

I’m a nurse, I have to give enemas a lot, it’s normal to go everywhere lol I usually put chucks pads on the floor and put a bedside commode next to the bed. It’s embarrassing for the patient, but truly, we think nothing of it. Glad you’re better! ❤️

Welcome back from the near dead. I missed you! Also the left side is the correct side to lay on for an enema. I remember that much from nursing school but I don't remember a warning about a rectal volcano eruption. I work in mental health in an outpatient setting so I don't have to give enemas and such but somehow there is still shit involved....like people throwing it or smearing it around the room. Nurses can't escape the poo no matter how hard we try. Poor Daniel.

So happy to see you back and alive! ❤ And honestly, bit going to the hospital because of pain down there is not strange - people have been telling us women for ages that having pain in our vagina is "just part of being a woman". I was also having severe pain but did not go to the hospital because "it is probably nothing". Then at work i had to tell my students that "there is something wrong" because I almost fainted, so I went to my local health center where they took some tests and directly sent me to the ER. At first they thought it was my appendix but after a "just to make sure"-ultrasound they saw that it was an infection in my ovary. I legit thought i would just take some antibiotics and go home but they looked at me in disbelief when i wanted to leave "no mam, you have an infection. We need to monitor you" 😅 I did not realize the severity of my state. Happy that you got help 🩷

Thank goodness Mummy Garbage made you go to the hospital. I know somebody who didn't get there as quick as you and nearly died, UTI turned sepsis the same as you and the road to recovery for her was very long. So be kind to yourself. Oh and welcome to the morphine club, I have the oral stuff at home for my medical condition so I often make weird purchases! The fact you didn't poop is probably because of the morphine, it can cause really bad constipation in people. Luckily I appear to be immune from that bit.

Damn girl! I'm glad you listened to your mom and got to the ER. There seems to be an extra nasty bug going around that causes UTIs that turn nasty. My sister-in-law had it and developed a kidney stone and sepsis, they caught that right away but it's scary stuff. Take it easy, we're not going anywhere. As a veteran of much butt related stuff, the enema story has me rolling.

This is giving me flashbacks. 😂 I had to have my gallbladder removed, and the pain medication stopped me up…BAD. I had no idea that this was a thing, and that you can do stuff to prevent it after surgery. Long story short I landed in the emergency room like you, doubled over in pain could not sit, could not function. I waited in the waiting room for 16 hours to be seen because our local healthcare system is overrun. I feel like I died and came back to life 100 times in that wait. There was no room available, so they eventually took me into the children’s wing as a back up. There I lay in a room with cartoons and clouds on the ceiling, while a nurse does a manual extraction. Let me just say… I think my soul left my body. I can laugh about it now, but it was the most painful traumatic thing I had ever experienced in my life. A man’s entire hand inside of my body, pulling out excrement, hard as rocks. Fissures and tears in the aftermath. And then the enema… much like you did not go well. No joke, I think I have PTSD from the entire experience. Needless to say, if I ever take strong pain medication again, I am doing things differently. 😂😂😂😂

I had a 3-level cervical disc fusion back in September and stayed 2 nights in the hospital. They had me on 3 different opioids, and gave me a hand switch that could dispense pain meds as often as every 8 minutes. They also let me keep my phone. I ordered over $500 of the most random shit from Amazon, and the boxes were piling up the day I came home. I brought back 2 large IKEA blue bags worth of stuff to the Kohl's return kiosk and the guy laughed his ass off at me.
