    Except that I kept thinking of jokes that he hadn't told. "I've been doing some work at home, putting in a skylight. The people in the apartment upstairs are really ticked off." "We had a swimming pool on the 27th floor. You wouldn't believe how deep it is." "When you shoot a mime, do you use a silencer?" "When I was a kid I didn't have a toy train, I had a toy subway. You couldn't see anything. Every now and then you just heard a rumble." and many more.

    What I like most about him, is he's so different than everyone else. He doesn't let you know when he's said the punchline, because his whole routine is so monotone, that you really have to think about what he just said. He essentially has no "delivery." To me, it's funny that he can do the whole thing without so much as even cracking a smile. He's like a comedian that sounds like he's depressed.

The content is everything to him, no failsafe funny voice, funny gestures, no clown like attitude, just jokes that had to kill every time and they did. My top 3 would be 1. Bill Hicks 2. George Carlin 3. Steven Wright

  • @Marathonracer

    @Marathonracer

    8 жыл бұрын

    mikelheron20 Oh is that how standup works ? Well golly gee, I didn't know that ! Steven Wright was ALWAYS brilliant, starting with his first TV performance, which was on The Tonight Show and was 3 mins 17 secs. and he brought down the house ! And then he told more jokes talking to Johnny, for almost about 1 1/2 more mins and the audience went nuts! There's your 5 mins. They NEVER give you 50 mins on the Tonight Show and Steven Wright typically got about six minutes on repeat performances on Letterman. That kind of extended time is only on TV specials like this one, or a Broadway show. My obvious SARCASM and PARODY of +Mike Williams was directed at him about what he said... "Tell the same jokes over and over again and you too can have an amazing memory." Since you didn't get it, I'll 'splain it to ya. You can't tell the SAME jokes the FIRST time "over and over again", because it's ...duh... the FIRST TIME! And I said "he stood there for 50 mins, and didn't say a word" because he couldn't have practiced the jokes since it was the first time he's telling them,so according to Mikey, he should have just "stood there and not said a word". I obviously said "50 mins" to make it ridiculously exaggerated - as ridiculous as what he said was. That's what comedy is..... reality that's exaggerated so much that it's funny. For a guy who's watching a Steven Wright special you sure have a problem understanding sarcasm and parody and figuring out the joke. But that's how standup works

  • @Imafungi123

    @Imafungi123

    To be clear, I thought and wrote what I did, because he mainly tells very short jokes, whereas it may be somewhat standard for average and general stand up comedians to tell longer stories and jokes mixed in their sets, leading me to think it might be easier to remember a longer story where you can ramble a bit and there are a lot of points related, then 50 minutes of really short sometimes one liner jokes, I am impressed with all stand up comedians from the writing to the performing, but I did have that thought that it is impressive to me to memorize so many short jokes.
