Lewis Black: Tragically, I Need You (Full Special 2023)

Комедия

With Tragically, I Need You, Lewis Black brings his inimitable insights to the post-Pandemic state of the world. Picking up where he left off with the Grammy-nominated Thanks For Risking Your Life. This time Lewis has the view of someone who spent entirely too much time in isolation during the Pandemic, where the irksome details of life drew his acute attention. As the world shut down in the spring of 2020, Lewis went on a quarantine-tinged journey of self-discovery which led him to many personal revelations, including that he is old, that solitary confinement is a punishment, and that all recipes are made for a happy family of four, and most importantly, never look directly in a cat’s eyes.
Despite the trials of quarantine, Lewis’ feisty streak has not faded. In the “new” normal, he is quick to acknowledge that he’s feeling a significant level of frustration at the thought of creating comedy in a world where the reality of events exists only in the minds of the viewers. His job now is to nightly counteract the daily narratives presented by the former president, the current Ghost of Christmas Past, and the conspiracy theorists and Walmart shoppers who span the political and social spectrum.
Recorded Live at The Paramount Theater, Huntington, New York in May 2022.

@Stephanie Maier If I was going to invent things, it would be something better than bouncing in clubs when I was young. Does it bring pleasure to troll others? Does it make your otherwise useless and feeble existence more bearable? If it does, please continue. I have lived a wonderful and exciting life filled with adventure and pleasure you'll never understand. Nothing you can say can upset me or cause me an instant of negative Thanks for reminding me why I refuse to date western women, more especially white ones. I'll stay here in Ecuador where women are kind, feminine, and don't show their ass whenever they have a thought. But you do you, Jezebel. At Zanies Comedy club in Nashville, Tennessee in or around 2005, Mr Black was not this crude and lewd; personally he was a pleasure to talk to and be around. In this video, he was crass and lewd. It's filled with gratititous vulgarity, as I imagine you are too. Vete a el Diablo, maldita sea. O quizás eres de el Diablo??? Yo no importo.

When Louis came out, I just prepared myself to lose my grip. And then when Trump came out, we all lost our friggin grip. Well, many times before that but what a shit load of a mess we’re in right now. Wherever you are, be safe. Because there is no safe place. And I’m in Florida. As long as I don’t get pregnant, or become a woman, or become a man, or become black or anything but white or get old or give a shit, I should be OK. I think I got it figured out. Ha ha. Peace. I finally gave myself permission to sell the house where I grew up in order to open the shop of my dreams that'd I'd been envisioning for 20 years. The space was renovated, the materials and machines were being set up, the necessary 'props' were in place and the OPEN sign went up January 13, 2020, and we got the shut down notice March 15th! I was able to struggle thru a year and the greedy landlord - the building had been vacant for three years before I spent over $20,000 renovating it and moved in - wouldn't say one word to me, other than to notify me I had 36 hours notice before he intended to take possession of the building and my merchandise, machinery and stock. Fortunately my contractor and his nephew showed up the Sunday before the landlord was to take possession with a trailer and we got the vast majority moved out and into my garage. Ultimately I was forced into bankruptcy and am still dealing with the loss of a life's dream, the financial losses and the related mental anguish. I'll close proudly stating that I was among the initial 500 children to be given Dr. Salk's vaccine thru the Navy's dispensary system.

It’s a global decline in civics & civility that caused that terrible chain of events in your business efforts!! WHY do people need to be legally forced into basic decency?!? Just a fraction of the output from 30-40 yrs of “Lifestyles of The Parasitic” & the cult-worship of utterly talentless drones-whose only “gift” is Greed!! And not one “leader” or another stepped-up to suspend habeas corpus, put an FDIC-backed freeze on leases & loan payments, nor to protect small businesses from being devoured!! Not one. I’m glad you were able to salvage your important assets!! Praying for your former landlord’s ‘day of reckoning’ to speed up, & for more favorable terms in whatever direction you go forward!! Same here. Grew up in Kemp Mill. I didn't go to Springbrook HS like he did, though. His old neighborhood, Burnt Mills, is separated from mine by Northwest Branch and a few hundred yards of forest. Rachel Carson lived just to the north of his neighborhood for much of her life. I'm 9 years younger than Black, but I knew people like him growing up in MontCo. Not sure why, but there are a ton of smart, sardonic humans in suburban MD. David Silverman, who helped create the Simpsons and directed numerous episodes, lived nearby and was a classmate for years. I especially love Black's sense of outrage at the stupidity of the country, which really comes through here in the piece on vaccines. Like George Carlin he had that sense of righteous indignation that burns brightly. Unlike Carlin in his last couple of misanthropic decades, he actually wants us to do better, not crash and burn. He's like Carlin without the wordplay and with more hope mixed in.

I've been a fan since the early 00s when I first saw your stand ups on Comedy Central and you've been my favorite comedian ever since. I've listened to your specials on Spotify dozens of times and they got me thru many a shift at work. Your jokes have basically shaped my sense of humor and your punchlines force their way into my brain randomly without my consent (MEAT WHERE'S THE MEAT). As corny as it sound, and I doubt you'll ever see this but in case you do thank you for everything you've done for comedy and the laughs you've given all of your fans over the years. I'll always be grateful.

I’m truly sorry to hear about your husband’s passing. I remember when Americans were able to debate the merits of their argument, so the truth can prevail. I remember back in college, both conservative and liberals could agree to disagree, agreeably without having some snowflake run to the schools pre determined save space because of a perceived micro aggression, thankfully it was freshly packed with a nice warm blanket a couple of Binky’s to make the sad better.. I have an honest question for you, do you truly trust the United States government? Hopefully your beloved husband didn’t live long enough to see Louis black become nothing more than an authoritarian loving propaganda mouthpiece, who wags his finger in condemnation at anyone who dare not to walk lockstep with the current administration. May your husband rest in peace. I have no doubt whatsoever his life was a beautiful one because you too had each other.

Love Lewis. He does a lot of excellent work too. He often does events where proceeds go to charity. And he doesn’t just phone it in because he’s not making anything at those events. I went to one such event. Just so happened to be across the street from my home, which was phenomenally convenient. He was out there on stage working it for 2+ hours. Great performance. Gave 110% for a charity performance for the homeless. Excellent human being.

Louis- I've been meditating for my entire life and I didn't suffer being alone. In fact, I got cancer in 2017 and had akready been alone in my apartment for 3 years before the pandemic hit. So I was kind of comforted that everyone else joined me at their home! But seriously. Meditation is a deep understanding about ourselves. It transcends "mental" or emotional problems, believe it or not. You become deeply acquainted with yourself simply by making the effort to be present and understanding that awareness is fundamental- not the mind and its thoughts! Mind is suffering. No- mind is health. Its as simple as that believe me.

I love you Lewis, thank you for everything you have done. Your one of my greatest heroes, right there with George carlin and Bill hicks.

Man, I really forgot how much I missed Lewis. Havent checked him out in a few years, but he was on HEAVY repeat on my old mp3 player in the late 2000s early 2010s. Still top tier.
