Star Stable is trying to hold onto their dwindling player base. Unfortunately, they're taking the wrong approach to it. These grinding activities are getting old super fast. :/ 18k snowflakes is way too much. Gives me PTSD of grinding the druid missions out to get the Rune Runner horse. 😐

I had JUST completed the Druid training like two days into the hollow woods system , and now they added this system for the winter update , and personally it’s been too much ☹️😂 I don’t want to collect those snowflakes , even with grinding somewhat regularly, I have 2500 snowflakes. Ridiculous.

I think the main reason why Star Stable employees listen to what you have to say over what other people are crying out for, is because you actually have a platform to stand on. And thank God you don't abuse it like most ambassadors for the game do. I'm glad that you can be a voice for the players when sso won't listen to the rest of us.

I feel like the whole ‘bring the colour back thing’ doesn’t fit the winter village at all. It works well for the rainbow festival because of yk the rainbows. I can’t play much because of exams so I can’t take the time to grind for snowflakes… let alone 18k just to get the old filter back.

as someone who is a newer sso player and is experiencing the winter village for the first time, it’s really boring. I was super excited to be able to get to experience this and not know what to expect. but then it came out and i was super disappointed. i was expecting to log on and play for a good long while during the event, but i only log on to do the daily things and then log off. i hope sso listens to their players and fixes things :(

Am I the only one who truly misses the old Santa hat collection days of the winter village? Like, even though I was busy with school at that time, id still get on during break and get so excited to relax and collect Santa hats bc we got tack and a bunch of food, so I never had to buy and throughout the year. It was so pleasant

Honestly for all the grinding which wiyld take weeks i wiuldve expected a horse for the 18 k 💀

I don’t mind the gathering snowflakes only if they made it for just tack and an outfit.. I hate they took the color out of the village. When I played last year it was just so joyful and more magical to just come into winter village and have everything pretty and normal. I think they just need to add more activities. Really am not a fan of grinding just to get color back….

Honestly I expected better since hollow woods came out I was like I can't wait for what they are doing for christmas if they made hollow woods as good as they did .. Christmas so far was a fail im sad that sso has let us down but yk what can you expect

For real what do you expect. Do you think your players want to grind in an area that looks like shit just to make it not look like shit? Like what were they even thinking. Not to mention the holding stuff in your hands bug which ruins any immersion that you may be trying to have.

The very first year that ever introduced the pumpkin hunting for halloween and the goat hunting for winter villiage was great imo. It was fun. It was a new activity. I didn't feel like it was impossible for me to grind enough tokens to get the outfit that came out that year while also holding down a job (back when there was only one token outfit). But after that... the grind ratio tanked. They started adding more events to earn tokens and more rewards, which was fine, but then they limited the amount of times you could do those events while also hiking up the amount of tokens you needed to collect, and it has only continued downhill from there. There's now 3 or 4 times the amount of rewards to grind for on top of needing to earn more for them. These days the big holiday events only cater to those who have time to play all day. I have maintained the opinion for several years now that they need to fix the grind ratio in some fashion, whether it's reducing the amount of tokens you need to get rewards or giving us more tokens per activity. Why make the free items so much harder to grind for? I don't mind it becoming more difficult than it used to be, but it's gone too far in the other direction. I barely collect anything from the events anymore because I don't have time to grind for everything and it kills my motivation to participate. I understand they're trying to keep people playing longer, but instead they're causing people to find the grind not worth the effort.

Hello Denis! Nice video, keep it up! I'm a longtime SSO player, and also a Game Dev irl (not at SSO). In my opinion, although it's not an excuse, the biggest problem with the grinding system in the Winter Village are the rewards. Like you said, they are definitely not rewarding enough for the efforts it takes to grind. They should also consider into that the casual/vs more hardcore gamers. If it can reassure you, game devs (usually) instantly notice when players are not satisfied with something. Sometimes we can't instantly do something about it because of the higher ups, or sometimes it really takes more time then initially planned to adjust and fix these bugs. That being said, I'm also hopeful they will balance the system and fix the bugs. And again, I'm not defending them, there are many choices SSO makes that even I as a game Dev myself, I don't understand/agree with. Anyway, just wanted to give my input! Keep being honest with your videos, it's constructive and if I were working at SSO, I would definitely report your feedbacks to the team!

This being my first time celebrating Christmas in sso, i feel quite sad about the state of the game. My friends hyped me up about the winter village and sso kinda really slapped me back to the ground with all the bugs and the depressing look of the village. And then the 18k snowflakes? The grinding in Hollow woods is amazing but this isnt it chief. Overall not a great time.

I think what sso did was they saw that the prices in hollow woods they initially set were relatively low, so this time they set them very high right away. Kinda a mistake if you ask me..

Yes :/ They are very out of touch. Like they just need to try grinding for the colors themselves and notice how boring it is? People will just log off…

Another thing that completely BAFFLES me is how little the new SSO team puts effort and resources for QUESTS. Literally the BACK BONE of RPGs are quests. I’m not even talking about the MAIN quest line (which is painfully slow), even just silly little quest lines with some childish silly humor. Make us clean streets, feed the deers, learn a bit more from some funny character’s past? GIVE US SOMETHING!!

No for real this update made me not even want to log on .. and I use to always log on no matter what when the winter village update comes around but with these shenanigans absolutely not !

They should’ve made the update so that it was a grind to get a new, more beautiful filter/version of the winter village. Rather than taking AWAY what we already had… it really isn’t worth hours of running around like a fool for a questionable end goal.

I think the blue filter gave me a migraine?? After playing for an hour I got a really intense headache that took over my entire face, and then the headache kind of lingered for 4 days. That’s never happened to me before

This is my 1st year in winter village. The blue filter is kind of annoying but for me it's not a huge issue. Tho I also do not have issues with eyes so I really can't speak about it much. However I have not been grinding at all. Whenever I would try I would get sick of it in max 10mins. There are not nearly enough snowflakes or snow piles, sometimes the snowflakes from the piles go into the ground or up in the air and I can't even get them. And the fact that our character keeps grabbing random stuff is bothering me so much. Everytime it grabs a chainsaw I just relog because I would rather it hold hay or smthn like that. Honestly the only good thing about winter village for me is the fact that I got to buy winter horses I wanted. Maybe the races are fun too. But that's all. I am super disappointed...

Thanks for your voice Denis. I grinded a lot and reached 18k today, so within six days lol…I’m insane🤣 ANYWAY. I did enjoy having something to keep me occupied honestly, BUT I agree it should’ve been more interesting maybe, with better rewards at the start. Once u get up to like 12k the rewards start getting good, which is…something.😭 But yeah! The blue filter was horrible, I couldn’t stand it either oh my gosh. I wish sso did take that into account and at least make the grinding experience enjoyable to the EYES bro bc it was god-awful.💀

3:58 Hi, it’s me, someone with vision problems, specifically optic nerve hypoplasia and astigmatism. And the blue filter is unbearable. It causes a lot of eyestrain. And it causes this weird issue, where everything kind of starts to blur together into one bluish blob. Thanks for giving me the secret to remove the blue filter. Things will be more enjoyable from now on.

Here's some "Fun" SSO Math Facts for everyone: - You get 5 snowflakes per snow pile. - You need to go through 60 piles of snow in order to have 300 snowflakes. - You need to pass through 12,000 piles of snow to have the final goal of 18,000 snowflakes. If it weren't for SSO adding those missions to collect more snowflakes, I think I would've stopped long ago. I have 8 more levels to go as I am writing this, and I feel exhausted playing the game. After I am done I am taking a long break afterward... the kind of break that's: "I won't be back til' the Halloween event" break. The only thing that's kept me from drooling on my keyboard is listening to music, being in discord call with friends, or listening to twitch streams. My fingers hurt from also having to manually slow down or break just to turn correctly on the ice during grinding/racing. The amount of grinding anyone has to do is ridiculous, and this is just on my computer. Imagine new players coming from mobile. It's just a bit tiresome when a grind system doesn't execute its main function.

i’m now a university student but i would never be able to get the full winter rewards if i was still in high school

Bugs/glitches/other issues: - yule goat wouldn't show up causing a lot of people to relog - item(s) in hand (I've noticed when its late hours or you login during the dead of night the bug isn't there/ happens less often for whatever reason) - blue filter (it really is a big middle finger to those with eye issues or want to protect their eyes from blue light. It just feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen.) - sliding for way too long on ground that isn't ice - sometimes jumps or running into small things will teleport you back to home stable - grinding system is a little too much for so little rewards - some snowflakes will go into the ground/be too high to reach in certain places when running over a snow pile (some will effectively just be unable to reach completely.) - collision with some things make no sense, causing some players to get stuck inside large structures or be forced to beak over something small - at certain spots in the winter village/Jorvik will cause horse to rapidly "shake" on stairs or occasionally flat surfaces What they fixed (as of 12/17/23): - there's more quests for snowflakes (feel free to add issues/updates to this comment if need be)

0:10 WHAT THE HELL IS THIS FILTER?!

I miss the original winter village SO MUCH. It was bright and cheery and I stayed there for hours. This new village that was added last year looks so human and boring. And this year when I entered the village I was like...."What's wrong? Why does it feel worse than last year?" Then I realized you have to use a grinding system to bring the colors back. This place was already depressing to begin with and now it's even more sad. It's SO DARK here. And dark...dark.....dark. that's all I'm thinking when I run around the place and it effects my SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder. I already feel bad during the winter but when I log on SSO to cheer me up it makes it worse. I'm supposed to be playing in a festival that is supposed to invite players with cheer and happy wonder and colors and bright lights. And I feel like I am stranded in a deserted village in the middle of no where in Alaska or Canada. This place will not excite new players to keep playing because they are missing out on my first winter village experience 6 years ago. THAT was a magical experience. I hope Star Stable tries harder to give us a break and let us just have some fun and joy without having to work for it literally all the time.

my cousin dosent play often but she does play (she hasnt played in months) .. she beat brain cancer 3 times and is still here, she is already blind in one eye and cloudy in the other, i cant imagine seeing in this filter like that

I personally don’t even care about getting the filter back, it’s to much work that’s why I didn’t even do it and I’m not gonna do it. I just care about getting the new horses, pets and tack lol

The old charts as village was sm better. They removed Santa and replaced him with a living piece of straw in the shape of a goat, updated it which wended up making it smaller, they replaced the reindeer that pulled the sleigh with horses, and a lot more. Lastly they also removed the igloo where u could see all the prizes u would get w winter tokens or wtv..

Another example of sso running out of ideas and ruining things. Haven’t logged on nor do I plan on it. I prefer 2014-16 Christmas updates

They really tried to do what they did with hollow woods, but it doesn't work out very well cus like you have to drop hours into running around in circles, I'm almost done but I'm at that because I am insane I got to 10000 points in two days but that took me....16 hours of straight playing why did I do it? I am insane that's why lol but yeah unlike hollow woods the progression system is very ass you DO NOT GET upgrades to collect 2 winter magic instead of just one or anything like you get in hollow woods! ALSO You don't get really nice rewards for sinking hours into this game sso wants us to play the game for more than an hour well give us rewards for that becasue the stuff I got was not worth 16 hours . The milestone quest rewards are of this you get 15JS 5 player XP and 2-3 winter tokens WOW stuff I can get in less than hour is my reward for sinking more than 24 hours into this game?! now the milestones do you do get some colour back in but its not...an improvement its marginal at best just break the game to remove the filter. The tack set we get this year will be around next year for tokens or JS do not suffer with it like I did I am insane and bored which why I'm doing it.

Yea agree, the grind is so pointless at a time of year that's just supposed to be...fun. Just have quests, lots of activities and choose a gift for your effort, it doesn't have to be complex to be good. No santa, no christmas activities = leaves the place feeling very empty.

it's like they take away stuff we already had in the game and then make us work for it to get it back and then call it ✨gameplay✨🤡 sso needs to turn it down a notche actually put cool stuff in the game and then grind for it... that makes sense... make the experience pleasant, keep the dopamine going and the rewards flowing but this is just cruel... like blackmailing... grind your lil ass off or else u don't get your winter village back bruh people weren't happy with the new winter village layout when it came out/ was reaorked and now they take it away like this... I'm furious... i was so excited for snow and everything but it made me stop playing agaib

The way you said this is so true because we used to have a winter village that was just fun and pretty and tons of little things to do but now they put an ugly filter and want us to work for the village to not look unbearable again and not just a little bit of work is required instead they want 18k of those little snow things just for the normal filter it just sounds like they don’t have any real content this year ..

I think sso should focus a lot more on bugs, like, EVERYTIME I log onto the game, 10 mins later I have some random objects stuck in my hand and they wont go away until I log off 💀

I can’t even buy the new clothes in the shop because i can’t tell what colour it is because of the blue filter.

I was wondering where the warm lighting was in the winter village and I didn't realize it was locked behind tasks 😩My biggest issue with the filter is it's just soooo dark it's really hard to make out details of anything you're trying on. I know the blue filter is an atmospheric effect to make it actually look cold instead of there just being snow and ice and pretending it is - it's just too dark

I had a glitchb after the winter update where some of the items in the global store were locked and I couldn't buy them (including the starter gear for some reason) even though it said I met all the requirements

honestly i kind of expected there to be a ridiculous number for the amount of winter magic needed (my expectations when it comes to updates are set very low lol), the rewards definitely need to be more balanced and if it wasn't for the tack and outfit set i honestly wouldn't be participating 😅, and this set is the only thing fueling my need to complete it. i just managed to reach the halfway point last night (i've spent more hours than i'd like to admit playing this update lol🫠)

I didn't play the other races or events so I could get the color back. It took six days! Maybe now I can get to enjoy the new update tomorrow. I hope Star Stable ends the work to get color back in all the events. Love your videos Denis.

I KEEP HOLDING HAY OR A DRINK IN MY HAND IM SO DONE

It's literally Hollow Woods but 10x more worse and 10x more painful with a limited amount of time to do it. The only reason I'm doing it is for the player xp because I really need it to level up BUT it's extremely hard to do especially because we need SO MANY and they spawn so little. If the snow piles gave 20 or even 15-10 snowflakes it would make life 101293032984x easier. + I wish snowflakes glowed or were a different colour than blue/white/grey. I actually do have vision problems and it's extremely difficult to see the snowflakes sometimes. + The Hollow Woods update was already grindy and painful for most people, even though it's a VERY good update - we have forever to do it, so it's not really a problem. Although I think the price increases suck. But now this? Again? 18k IS TOO MUCH period. Since I live in the southern hemisphere I have a bigger Christmas break and I don't have much on such as a job or school, but I have a life dude like I don't wanna spend 3 hours a day just because I need the extra player xp.

Star stable feels like a social experiment

since the update I’ve had so many bugs aside from just carrying items. Half the time I can’t dismount whatsoever. it’s not letting me do care of the horse I’m training/riding all week so it’s unhappy and slow yet it’s using up the food items I paid for when I click, despite not actually feeding the horse. and also I’m not being rewarded with the tokens a lot of the time when I complete the tasks. It shows on screen that I earned it but the number in my inventory stays the same. 😮

i have autism, ive been playing sso since 2016 atleast, i use sso as a calming tool for myself, the udates have just gone downhill, the winter event sucks and i lag out near the new horses, i payed for a life time membership but not for the game to be always bugged. i expected so much better. not to mention the horses being insanely expensive, i cant afford to pay 30 bucks for ONE horse, its just so insane how quickly it died off.

the quests with santa being gone is so dissapointed. i feel like there is no point to the village now. also the big building with all the items on display which you could buy with the winter tokens was so fun, and thats also gone. its so boring now

I agree with everything you are saying tbh , I'm not a old player but not a new one so i get where your coming from , i emailed them about a bug becuase i was getting really sick of having to relog every so often and all I get back was " We know about this bug we will try get it fixed soon as possbile" and me being the person i am when i saw they were doing a hotfix that they would fix most of the bugs , but ofc not I log back on the next day and nothing is fixed

i miss the old Christmas activities and quests. before all the winter village crap. sure, the area looks nice, but there was no need to delete all the engaging quests from before 2019 or so

as a newer player, im definitely going to grind out the magic. free tack is my favorite kind of tack, unfortunately. I hope sso's additional ways of earning magic do make it less of a mind numbing chore to do with tomorrow's update

Hey, Denis. I really agree on the filter and the chainsaw being stuck in my hand when playing. However, I feel grinding in the winter village is perhaps more important because it is a temporary thing, whereas the Hollow Woods is more or less permanent. Also, what we receive in the winter village will probably be there for this Christmas, and not the next. So I don't really mind the grinding for it. The other thing I want to mention, is the animals there. What are we supposed to do with them? There's a winter token we get when entering, but there is no instruction on what we're supposed to do with them. I clicked on the deers, and then nothing happened. Then I clicked on the girl with them, and she said something. But then, when I left, the deer kept following me around. Like, why? What is the point? I don't get it. Also, there is an owl flying above us, but there's no explanation... I guess it's for decoration? I don't even bother to do the main race, because every time I get to the place where the sled is dropping ice, it drops it right in front of me, even though I go to the side to avoid it. It is so so annoying. Anyway, have a good one.

Can't even take any pics since the fucking hay is in my hand 247 even if i haven't fed my horse. So annoying. And who's gonna grind in sso when one of the years most waited event is on, we're busy already so not many people got time for that. Also what would they lose from making the winter magic needed amount smaller? Or the rewards better? How i see it is happy players = more likely to spend money = more profit

I think the biggest issue is the timing. Yes the grind model that they chose is a bit wonky and lackluster, but they decided to put one big grind Quest literally right after another one? Of course no one's going to want to grind this second time, especially if the prizes are trash and the atmosphere is abhorrent. Also, as an IRL equestrian, I quite frankly despise the fact that they put a dressage saddle pad under the western saddle for the set that you're trying to get. That alone turns me off of doing the quest. Not that i liked the set to begin with haha

You pretty much summed up exactly how I am feeling about the Winter Village. It was my first year experiencing the Winter Village in 2022 and it was amazing! This year is beyond disappointing. The grinding is a black hole. I don't get it. They made the summer western camp SO FUN...you didn't mind the grind. Hollow Woods started out great then they went backwards with it. Either commit to creating interest for your players or continue the trend of dialling it in SSO. This roller coaster approach is getting old.

This update fr was such a let down. I've been grinding for hours because I do really love the tack set, but all of the mediocre rewards in between each item absolutely ruins it for me. I don't understand how star stable went from the fun western festival that I enjoyed doing and collecting things for, to 18,000 snowflakes in just a few weeks. They better implement something where getting them is easier, because even now after I've grinded for what I have, it still feels completely unrealistic and out of reach to get that many. At the end of the day I thought star stable was supposed to be for a younger audience, and I can't imagine any of them having the desire to collect 18,000. Even as an adult I don't have the desire.

the game is so buggy that when i used the reindeer powder from like 2016 i got suspended for using cheats or something, the winter village used to be one of my favorite events in the game. i loved the santa quests so much, and honestly i could understand why they got rid of him, but PLEASE i'm so so bored. all the grinding quests they've added, such as hollow woods and winter magic, take forever. and maybe i'm just impatient but i'm loosing so much interest, but i get that they have to update their game to progress. i'm loving all the new additions and how they're growing with the times, but so many people in the comments have pointed out something important. they're trying to hold on to a player-base the wrong way, they're attempting to adjust to a demographic who isn't interested.

After the winter village update I got a bug where I can't take care of my horse (I can't give him anything to eat). I give the food to my horse and I don't get the animation for feeding but the food disappears from my backpack and the horse is still hungry.... because of it I had to get the stable girl to take care of my horses. Please help 😢

Agree.This winter village is very badly done. If i have to be honest it would be much better with old repetitive quests. Personally i did enjoyed last winter village that i do with current one. I don't feel want to grind it outside of getting the set. Rest of rewards are pretty much dog....I will rather go to HW and ran around for hours than spending time in winter village. Especially with how things laggy and buggy are. No Matter what bugg with random items in your hands is still there after hotfix and updete. It's sad how long it takes to looking into this issue when this bugg pops up almost like all the time and it takes even months to be solved. I understand it not easy but it might fell like they do not care much about this bugg.

my head hurts when i play starstable, i cannot stand the blue filter!!! The snow is white, which makes my screen light white, which makes my head HURT and adding the blue filter makes it worse. WHO thought this was a good idea??? They could've come up with something else, last year it was beautiful but this year is so bad. They removed Santa and the raindeers, now its just an icelandic leading the carriage. What is the magic of xmas??? " oh but other countries dont have santa!!! " ok AND??? we literally have events from other countries too, the old summer event was a cultural thing from sweden(not sure), even if santa isnt real, its the xmas spirit and magic. Starstable is really ruining it at this point. And the bugs... Do they NOT do a beta test before hand or something? 70 euro game and this is what they do? Since the winter village came back out and I could use my reindeer power again, I did what I do every year and turned most of my horses in my hs to reindeer. Well, for the past 3 (almost 4) DAYS I have been unable to enter my home stable bc it logs me off saying “suspected of cheating” like I used something in game, im not cheating. I just want to get off this horse already.

Personally, i'm so tired of the same repetitive events. Halloween, Christmas, cloud kingdom, etc. Tbh i think that's all they have, which doesn't make things better. They've gotten rid of the easter update and valentines. It's like they're not even trying anymore. They do the same things every year and it just gets so boring for old players like me. I don't think I've logged in once since I've "finished" the hollow woods grinding.

The storage and photo mode thing isnt't working anymore :( I'm pretty sure they patched it. I hate the filter.

TBH itd be nice if they could make the filter so you can turn it off or not, cause i quiet like the blue filter

I never found the Winter Village that enjoyable, but this grinding system made it basically unplayable for me. I'm a casual player. I'm cool with some grinding if it impacts gameplay in a meaningful way. Fireflies? Fun. But when my snowpiles barely work, the gameplay is boring and regurgitated, and the amount you have to grind for is SO DAUNTING, I log off.

Even if they do add more Activities to the winter village, They would probably have the reward as like 5 winter magic or something, which i hope they won't do, would be pretty upsetting if they would!

What feedback did they listen to about Hollow Woods?

I only have 900 snowflakes and that took forever

ever since I saw the spoilers and stuff for the hollow woods and winter village grinding I was kinda disappointed because as a person who can't grind on sso for very long, it's just mean and unmotivating to give such little rewards (3 apples for like 16k snowflakes what) and for hollow woods, doubling the amount of lights you need? doubling the lights only punishes the people who didn't have time to grind, like me, because others who maxed the pages (or nearly) aren't really affected. now I just don't wanna do the lights anymore because I personally don't find fun in running around but its sso so what can I expect ykwim lol its a shame that I have no feeling for the winter village cause its (or was) always my favorite update

I can't even play for 10 mins before my eyes hurt due to the filter, and like normally I don't have that problem with others games. Is anyone having the same problem? It helped a bit with the filter remove glitch.

The bugs in this game are hurendes I did a race and bugged trough the floor and they kicked me off the game bc I „cheated“ 😭

I think there are asking way to many snowflakes for the stuff we get, took me several hours to get 3 apples 😅 and the tack is just a different color from last year and the saddle pad is almost the same color as last year, even the player xp is almost not even worth it compared to the xp we been getting for doing a lot less 😢

winter village is a nightmare especially the snowflakes, why gather so many to get like 50 player xp and an apple. It's so buggy and its torture, they've been ignoring everyone and only answering to people who aren't talking about the bugs
