"You wouldn't believe the garbage they want us to sell in these videos!" Don't worry Tim, I watch enough youtube to know exactly the sort of garbage they want you to sell in those videos, and that's why I skip the ad bits literally every time. I appreciate what you do.

lol, fair enough. I wish I could get the google ads out, too, but the algorithm has no incentive to share my work if I do and no one sees them if I do.

I think the most insulting thing about google ads is that they used to pay a fairly decent wage to the youtubers but nowadays google has decided that the people that create the content for the platform don't deserve a living wage for the work that they make... If it was still like the old days I'm not sure people would even take on shady sponsorship deals. Unless it's for a genuinely good product it's lose-lose for everyone.

I pay for the KZread subscription so that I don’t have to see the BS adds. I can’t stand it when people make the adds part of their video but if it gets them paid so be it. I skip that part anyway. I don’t mind when it’s their product they’re selling but I don’t want to hear about some dumb cell phone game or shaving products when I’m watching people build cars, guitars etc.
Skateboards are the new hollow core door! 😉
We know the world is coming to an end when a "Raid: shadow legends" advertisement pops up on a Tim Sway video.
Using some of the colored scraps for a headstock veneer would have been a cool touch, and maybe dyeing the backside of the neck yellow (or one of the other colors). Still came out good looking.

I thought about doing a veneered headstock cover but lost interest when I started thinking about some of the things I'd have to do to make it happen right. Lol.
Tim You are The BEST! We all love you brother. THANK YOU!
Not only looks good, but has a nice sound, too. Nice and rich.
Very nice one Tim. I mentioned in your last vid I had finished my third bass. I sourced all of the wood, made router templates, neck, and sourced all of the parts. It all started with the bass kit I got from you a year ago. I'm almost ready to try to make my own necks. I think the kit with the neck is the perfect place to start for someone who is up for the challenge of that level of wood working.

Awesome! Yes, necks are tricky. Best to learn the other stuff first instead of all at once.
Soon as I saw the thumbnail I thought woby design, great collab 😃
As a sucker for P-90s, I heartily approve.
Ending the vid with ‘ANARCHY’ is a nice touch

this guitar kind of wants to do that type of stuff :)
I've been out of sync with your stuff, glad to see I came in at the beginning of your pickup creation journey.
I like the fact that you just dive in on whatever you wanna build.... No fear and that is good ! Since I build stuff usually just for me if I succeed or fail it doesn't matter. Good inspiration dude. Keep building.

my ONLY superpower is I'm not afraid to fail :)
The color scheme has a bit of a hippie/psychedelic vibe. I dig it.
Excited to see more of your pickups!
I was looking at the soldering and I thought I'd share a trick I learned from my dad. I take the stripped wires and just poke them in the flux before soldering. It puts just the right amount of rosin on them and makes the little box of flux last forever.

Looks great and sounds amazing. I always enjoy how you show how you pivot when something doesn’t work out as expected and you still manage to turn it into a thing of beauty. I’m interested in seeing what you do with your guitar kits as well as what the next iteration of your depth gauge looks like.

Tim, this turned out beautifully. I have been watching for a long time and I have to say, your playing is really developing into something truly unique. I always appreciated your humble approach in the demos, full of bum notes and such (I am the same in that matter) and I really wanted to express how much I am enjoying your guitar noodling. The pickups have also* (*edit) really come a long way since the beginning. Fantastic work dude, you're an inspiration.
Nice build Tim. It was also good to see you sand that red back off. Sometime it's nice to know that some of the more experienced builders still struggle with the same stuff us beginners do. 😎

You wound your own Pickups! It looks and sounds great! Thanks! 😎✌️🌞🎻🎸
Nice job Tim!! FYI, in the industry they call that a German Carve.
Anarchy in the Skate Park! What's next? God Save the Hollow Core Doors? Hmmm... Or maybe you need to save the hollow core doors for some Robby Krieger riffs. :P Nice to see you building pickups now too.
Very cool project start to finish. With what little guitar work I do, winding pickups by hand works fine. You just have to pay attention to number of wraps or test the ohms until it is what is wanted. I'd like to see a cheap but good sounding amp build.
Nice pickguard. Every piece of the buffalo.
My drill press stop is broken, so i usually put a big piece of blue tape on the bit where I want to stop.
The pickups sure sound good on your first try. I imagine if I tried this they wouldn't sound nearly as good!

Ben makes some stunning art in this medium and is a lot of fun to watch. I once tried winding a single-pole pickup using wire I reclaimed from a wall wart power supply. It didn't go well... You were much more successful in your first try. As usual, the guitar looks and sounds great. Thanks for sharing!

sounds like it needs a setup pretty bad; everyone always goes all in when they do these types of guitars, a regular pickguard and knobs that stand out instead of all the camouflage, would be my take on the idea,. such a great number of custom things done here, well done.
Great looking guitar Tim.

since your getting in to making pickups, i dont know if you learned this already or not but its a good idea to always use the stop end of the coil as your ground connection and the start end of the coil as your output. doing so allows the outer most turns of wire to act as noise shielding for the coil because they would be closest to ground. you'll get better noise control this way
@timsway

Very nice work on that guitar Tim! I would veneer the headstock and inlay small skateboards into the appropriate sections of the neck. Now that would be very cool! Looking forward to your video about how to do the windings for the pickups... 👍👍🎸🎸👏👏
The guitar looks great! I think maybe dying the edges before the whole thing is glued up would be the only way unless you masked and dyed each layer after!

HNY Tim, Great job, I liked the "Pickup winder" would love to know more about how the pickup works, did a quick KZread it is spook action at a distance. I make my own tools too, so also liking the sneakie hand shadowing on the center tool (Hope it works on metric ) :) I realy like my lasers and love to use them with my CNC, would you look at getting a metal 3D printer if you had the work for it? Roy
@timsway
2 жыл бұрын
I will make a video about pickups fairly soon. I always planned on making my own winder from an old sewing machine but this one was only $200 on ebay with a counter and everything already, so it's an affordable way to get in the game. I don't know much about 3d metal printers. I think if I were to make investments in more large, hi tech tools, I'd be interested in a laser that can cut metal. While additive manufacturing makes more sense than reductive, in my case reductive is an easier way to use "trash" and reclaimed materials.
👍👍👍
Modern pillar drills are crap, miss the old school stuff, that is a cool pillar drill and remember using those ones, rocking horse shit to buy 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Where did ya get that winder? I've built alot of the parts of guitars but pickups is one I've wanted to take a crack at and haven't guitar turned out great, I've wanted to do a skateboard guitar myself

@MilesMcNallyLuthierie
2 жыл бұрын
@@timsway I too dabbled with the idea of the sewing machine one but coming by one that functions enough to build one out of let alone the time to retrofit it turned out tougher than I initially thought 😅 I will definitely have to look into that.
@timsway
2 жыл бұрын
@@MilesMcNallyLuthierie ye, that was always the thing holding me back. I didnt want to spend 50p$ on a winder and the retrofit seemed like a lot of work, sourcing a counter. Etc. Now that I've seen this, I feel like I could make my own but it is totally worth $200 to not have to.
@MilesMcNallyLuthierie
2 жыл бұрын
@@timsway I feel like I could throw one together too, but only ever dabbling in winding not sure how accurate it would be and fear that I'd spend all that time putting one together to have functional but not what I'm looking for pickups because of the trial and error involved in putting one together and lack of experience doing pickups. You may just have convinced me to get one, I've already found it😅

Immediately after you mentioned no advertisements a KFC ad popped up 😄 great looking guitar especially the laser cut multi colours. How about a body build like that? Although Woby Design has already set the bar high.
@timsway
2 жыл бұрын
LOL. For years I had the google ads turned off, too, but no one sees the videos when they are posted that way. No incentive in the algorithm to show them if they don't make any money. I did a neck like that and Woby did a body. I also did some hollow core door guitars that way . It's a lot of work and I lack the skateboards to do it. If you search "skateboard guitars" there are a few people doing it with amazing results.

Just for aesthetic reasons I don't like maple fretboards. I'd love to have some of this kits with rosewood or richlite
@timsway
2 жыл бұрын
I went with maple as I was having the necks made in a factory and maple is the most sustainable of the common guitar woods around the world. Rosewood is not environmentally sound, so that's a no for me. Richlite however is pretty cool and better ecologically (and ethically) speaking but expensive and more prone to break cnc router bits. In the future, I think I'll make the necks here, so I would use wood that grows near me, which would probably be maple again, but I might look for something else for the fingerboards. I agree maple is a little "boring" looking.

That paddle neck looks wonderful ! I have almost no true options its all parts or warmouth if I want a neck that does not warp and can be dialed in properly tuned exact tension as well as angle and intonation all of this magic others might not understand. Can one perhaps buy a maple paddle directly from you? Or should I just continue to curse at the high dollar fish neck company that has banned me knuckle down and just buy Japanese all parts necks as per usual? I have not had much luck aside from Japan! Your shop is amazing!
@timsway
2 жыл бұрын
I did not make this paddle neck, I bought it from an overseas factory and agree they are not all that great, but I've also found the terribly expensive ones are not much better than the less expensive ones. I get asked to make just necks a lot and have considered it, but with my particular tooling and process they are too expensive. I will be looking in to ways of doing it in the future for my kits and possibly individual retail.
