Hydro Dipping a Guitar
Ғылым және технология
I take a guitar body I built a while back and attempt to hydro dip it.

In this video, I try my hand at hydro-dipping a few guitar bodies as well as get a new headstock logo designed through Fiverr. I may be decent at building guitars and making videos but I have very little graphic design ability so using Fiverr on a project like this makes life much simpler. Thanks again to Fiverr for sponsoring this video.

I don't think I've ever seen someone double-dip the paint before. That really creates a nice "ghost flame" effect where it looks like the swirls are interacting, but remain distinct from each other. I've long been planning to do this with one of my guitars, and I may have to steal that idea...

Yeah, when he said he was gonna double dip it, I was like... er, I'm pretty sure you're about to regret that. But, then it came out looking amazing. I did not expect the layered, deep look. Really looks fantastic.

I was about to write the same comment. Also, a pickguard would nicely help to bring the 2 dips together.
Might be the best sponsored portion of a video I’ve seen. You made the ad a part of the building process, which was awesome. I didn’t want to skip it for once

Agree! Usually it’s “Today we’re building a brick wall….speaking of brick walls….I love gluten free pasta from…” 😂 This was actually useful for the project ☺️
The matching headstock really works well… Fender Japan did an Japanese artists model with a painted white maple fretboard and neck (it was like a ghost guitar)… so it could be possible to do the entire guitar as a hydro-dip

The silent siren one?
This is awesome! I’m about to buy my daughter’s first guitar and we decided to get a kit so we could build it together. We’ve been talking about colors and design, and I wanted to do something special for it. I think this method would be perfect! Thank you for the inspiration!

You sound like a fantastic dad 👍👍
Just a tip! Before masking, make shure the paint had already cure (dryed for more then 17hours) and before applying the masking tape, stick it first on your t-shirt or pants, this will add cotton fibers to the tape and make the glue weaker, that way it wont stick to much to the paint avoid this type of situations ;) Nice video man,and it ended looking pretty good!

Sanding the primer to key it seems vital too.

Great work, man! Two times was crazy, but awesome! Did you use "borax"? Some people say they use it.

@@AmistaddeTepeacaAre you talking about Burls Art? I don’t think he used borax.
I really like the second dip the translucent overlapping patters look really cool
Hey Burl! Try “yellow frog tape”, it’s a very delicate adhesion. Better chance of not pulling. Great job as always! 👍🏻
This is somewhat nostalgic. I remember seeing a video of a guy hydro dipping his Ibanez years ago.

My favourite part of your vids is when you play the guitar at the end and this guitar is probably one of my favorites, the colors look so beautiful together and it looks really unique with the two layers of the hydro dip and that song you played at the end was even more beautiful. 😁❤️
Looks incredible, man. Remarkable sound as well. Always sick to see the stuff you come out with!

Not only do I like the design but it sounds like your guitar playing has also gotten even better very smooth sound love it
I swear to god I work at guitar center this is by far one of the sickest guitars I’ve ever seen. Matching headstock, flamed neck, practical and stylish body shape, sounds amazing, holy crap! The colors are so beautiful
The warm colors really make the guitar pop so beautifully. I love it.
Great job beautiful guitar there are no mistakes in abstract art
That neck turned out absolutely amazing! Love the body design as well. It reminds me a bit of those super colorful 70s era furniture and decoration designs.
I've never been a fan of hydro dipping but you picked some great colors and made a great pattern with it. I dig it.
Man that thing is absolutely gorgeous!! I love hydro dipped guitars and you did an awesome job with this one!!
I can't wait to see how it turns out That looks so cool good work
After all these years we have Shine On You Crazy Diamond part 10 lol . Cheers to another fantastic build by Burls 👍
Great build! I think the single dip had a simple and appealing look but enjoyed the double too.
That looks so dope!! I thoroughly enjoy your videos, and your voice overs are an added touch. You’re extremely talented art wise, and musically. Keep it up!!
This is awesome. I love the double dip's distinctive overlay look.
this paint job is excellent in looks. I really like the way the overlap transparency came through.
Perhaps a pick guard could solve the issue of the paint coming up? Either way, turned out awesome!
A fantastic looking guitar and an awesome jam at the end
Beautiful. The double dip, and that amazing flamed maple neck. The sound is gorgeous. All round winner!
Love so much that double dipped effect, its really inter-dimensional! Nicely done.
would love a playlist or channel of just you playing guitar
Well that's a very interesting technique as I have never heard of hydro-dip before. If you like that look, it turned out great! Nice playing as usual......... 👍👍🎸🎸
That neck goes so well with that guitar, also love the darker swirl on the top middle of the body, it has a 3d smoke effect about it. A stunning guitar it has layers and sounds sweet🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
That is a gorgeous effect. To be honest I liked all versions of it! I want a hydro dipped guitar now.
Dude you should have made hydro dipped fret inlays
This is incredible. You really are an artist, in the truest sense of the word.
Gorgeous, as always!! Love listening to your little demos at the end too.
the dark shadowy bit to the left of the pick ups give it so much depth, amazing job
That's a beautiful looking guitar! Well done!!
No words to describe how amazing is your job! You're a terrific artist!!!
I always look forward to see what you’re gonna play and I’m glad you’re playing a little longer for us as well!
Brilliant. Vibrant colours. Awesome video
I'm happy to see burls' vids pop up on my notifications
Never ceases to amaze me with the work you do on these guitars. Some mistakes along the way, but it's worth watching to see the end product. Keep up the good work, man.

yes, and he takes the mistakes in stride..the difference between guitar builders and guitar builder wannabees is that the former learns how to fix, mask, or otherwise turn their mistakes into a meaningful part of the project.
Gorgeous guitar. That flame maple neck is incredible. Good job.
I really showing the failed tries, very helpful, double dipping is genius, came out beautiful … thanks !
Thank you for showing how to properly dip a guitar instead of the usual spraying paint into water with an aerosol can. After knowing about this method for quite a while and being in commercial art for over 30 years plus working at Gibson guitar in Nashville, this whole thing about hydro dipping drove me crazy when I saw people starting to use the spray paint instead of actually dripping or pouring paint into the water. If anybody tries one versus the other it's a world of difference when you do it properly. Keep up the wonderful work. Thank you!
It looks like something evh would play

That’s a sweet looking guitar. That flamed maple neck really sets it off with a touch of class, & that luscious mid range resonance.
i love the parts where the black overlaps the color and you can see the color through the black. Beautiful guitar. Sounds great too!
Shit man that looks so awesome it almost looks psychedelic in a way
I love your work! Could you make a guitar with aluminiun neck?
DUDE!! Ive followed you since covid started and I’ve seen every video you’ve posted. I AM SO HAPPY AND AMAZED EACH AND EVERY TIME! You are beyond talented!! And you can play????!!! I WILL DEFINITELY BUY A GUITAR WHEN YOU SELL. I cant wait to watch more videos!!! But take your time with them, no pressure❤️❤️❤️
The double-dipping turned out surprisingly well. It really added something unique to the finish compared to typical hydro dips.
Awesome!! How much clear did you spray, and what product? Hope you can answer, cause I know you’re always busy!! I may have to try this method on one of my builds💥👍🤙
I actually think the first attempt looked really nice, but I see what your were going for.

maybe if it had cleaner lines, the paint kind of faded oddly, other than that it looked great.
love hearin u play as well as build
I have build a hydrodipped guitar for a mate and it is never as easy as it looks came out very well tho
I wasn't sure about how I felt about the results of the "double dip" but after seeing the finished product at the end, I like! Great job!
That's fantastic! I'm inspired to try this on a old Squire I picked up for pennies from a pawn shop.
The double dip looks so good, don't think I've seen it done before!
i found the first attempt with the little splotches looked the best. it had so many little details. all subsequent dips were the dime a dozen big wavy looks
Beautiful work. Amazing tone too.
Amazing result!
The neck looks amazing! I love figured maple. The body turned out better than I expected. I might have to try that technique some day if I ever get around to building a solid body guitar.
I absolutely love the design aspect but for me hands down the best part of the video is seeing you play at the end with the guitar you just built
🏜 lovely color pallet and as always great finished product. Also appreciated the longer guitar sesh at the end 🥰 my favorite part.
Nicely done. I've never seen the dip process before, great result. That neck is killer!
Brilliant video and beautiful guitar visually and the tone is excellent, well done
We actually did the same painting method in kindergarten to paint class jars . Of course we had the guidance of our teacher. If a five year old can do it, anyone can.
That's wild... the guitar is like a magnet to the paint. Very cool!
Wooow, that one looks so sick. Well done!
Now that is an awesome idea! I have looked at hydro dipping before, but haven’t really thought about guitar bodies before. It would be cool if some bigger companies actually did stuff like this too! Or at least offered them.
9:01 Are we just not going to talk about this absolute banger of a demo?
Very good job! Nice clean sound! Mean mids. Awesome axe.
You should be very proud of your workmanship!!!
Its like artwork on a guitar, great job, worth the extra effort.
The figuring on the neck goes really well with the whole vibe of the guitar
Awesome build. Thanks for the video.
Very kewl - love tge way it turned out. Well done sir!
This guitar looks absolutely amazing!
Looks and sounds incredible! Great job dude
That 2nd dip gave it so much depth!
Really nice work. The hydro-dipping worked especially well.
Great looking guitar it's always fun to watch your work
The hydro dip look is so sick!!! Keep practicing and you can probably get an amazing result with a single dip!
Just amazing and unique look!
This should be a thing in mainstream guitar companies. This is awesome !
Turned out great. The neck flame looks awesome
feel free to keep the sponsors coming! love the content
nice work excellent craftsmanship and production.
I have dipped a dozen or so guitars and I was reasonably happy the way they turned out. Any screw holes need to be blown out with air or sealed to keep water out of the holes and swelling the wood.
Fantastic work! Fantastic music!
the results -- a beautiful guitar ...
Man that burnt neck is fierce! Love the loop at the end too, nice playing.
Always beautiful work. I hope i can build a guitar one day. Hopefully it'll be half as good as this.
That looks very cool. Well done. Thanks for the video.
Definitely a unique one-off guitar and looks great plays great sounds great. That neck is gorgeous
Always great playing at the end!
Wow dude you built a beautiful, toneful instrument with a one of a kind look! Great job! ...nice licks too
I really like the extra effort you put into everything 💯💯
your vids are so mezmerising dude. love it!
