Hey jazza, there is a traditional Turkish method of exclusive painting called "Ebru Art" quite similar to this but more exquisite in which you basically paint on water and dip whatever you want to bear the design. I think you might like that as well. Love your art and you've given me so much inspiration over the years. Wish you and your family the best, cheers!

Agreed. Once it was put back together, it really comes together well.

I really like how he isn't immediately good at using the medium. Showing that just because you are a great artist who is talented doesn't mean you don't have to look up videos and find the right way to do something every once and a while.

That was my thought. Every time I have seen people do this, they always move their arms around to break up and clear the surface before pulling the item out, so they don't get those weird strands and blotchy double-dipped areas.

Even I know he's doing it wrong, and I'm nobody... smh. You have to push the unused paint to the side with a piece of cardboard before pulling the object back out.

Yeah! I feel like most of the time when I see people trying this stuff they don’t do that and it ruins their dips too often imo :c

I remember when I was in highschool, the librarian wanted to restore a bunch of books that were really old and falling apart, she had to make completely new covers for some of them, and she painted them with this technique.

YEP. Marbling papers were frequently used in books as end papers and/or covers!!!! This is one of my all time favourite types of art.

I forget where I watched it, How It's Made maybe? But marbling the sides of pages are actually to help identify someone ripping pages out of your ledger/book

Jazza, I mean this with love: Thank you for showing how supremely difficult it is to do this and instead of pursuing my own efforts to dip stuff. Instead of trying it myself, after learning from your "successes," that I should just pay an artisan of the craft the money they ask because if you can't get a product better than what I would assume I can as a non-artist, that this is a true craft of skill and deserves the money demanded. Often in the art communities it's hard to value the services involved. Some are short changing themselves and others are exhibit a bit too much hubris for even Zeus to condone. This was eye opening that a professional artist produced results (again, no offense intended) worse than I thought I could do (I was an idiot and thought it exactly as easy as you evidently did before your experiments!) before watching the results. It looks so dead easy and simple, but good lord is it much, much more than that. Thank you, Jazza, for doing this on camera. Loved the video. Haven't finished it yet, but can see how it's going.

I always thought I would never be good at art but what I've realized is that a ton of your projects are the result of you jumping head first into something new and unknown and it turns out amazing. Thanks for inspiring me to give new things a try instead of assuming I won't be good at it

The gold on the frame actually doesn't look half bad. It looks like a old rustic sort of feel which is a aesthetic I myself actually do enjoy. Almost like something you would find in a abandoned home where there is a certain type of beauty.

Jazza, instead of watching TikToks to try and learn, i think it would be cool to see you get someone who does for a living, what you're trying to do in our videos. Or it would even be cool to see you go visit the different workshops of the people who do the things you wanna learn, and they teach you by letting you try and do the thing in their workshop, and then at the end, you come back and do a big piece at the end using everything you've learned, and then give it to the person you visited in that video. I just think it would be cool to see you going to see other artists to learn to do the things they do, as well as your usual stuff.

Yes! This would be so cool for several reasons, Jazza is always entertaining when he's interacting with someone else (and sometimes making a fool of himself) and he's also most endearing when he's geeking out about new forms of artwork and the incredible art that other people do, and he loves to draw as much attention as he can to other creators.

A little tip, when doing surfaces such as plastic it is a good idea to scratch up the surface of the material so the paint adheres properly. Loved the video btw!

Also, in the videos he watched, they don't spray the paint all over the place. They sort of just spray in the center. And I think he'd benefit from shaking the remaining paint away, before bringing what he dipped, out of the water.

@@winterprism9227 absolutely, when he brings it back up it gets recoated by other paint and that can “ruin” it

I think the main issue was when you took the objects out, the paint wasn’t cleared above it so then it just slops on top of the cool pattern, some of them came out great though!

Before watching Jazza go through with this "hydro dipping" process, I have had always known this technique as "marbleization" -- which has traditionally been applied to paper for bookbinding purposes. But watching Jazza dip entire shoes for this effect is mind-blowing. Good call!

When you dip shoes, hold it at places that you taped. After the shoe is fully submerged, use the other hand to clear of the remaining paint on the water surface so the shoe won’t stick to the paint when it comes up

I’m so happy I found jazza. He makes me like art even more. I’m going college soon and I’m doing art there, I hope I become as good as him.

they key is to shake the items under water to avoind getting a 2nd layer when bringing them back up! but still awesome results :)

I actually really liked Garreth's controller. The contrast with the black buttons are cool. I want to try the hydro dipping now😸

The custom paper towel made me laugh and then when he put it on display i laughed even harder my god that was funny 😄

I used to do paper marbling when I was a really little kid. I'd do it with paper towels when I ran out...

I love the way Jazza puts the quotes around hydro dipping- reminds me of a grandpa talking about the new-fangled 'smart telephones' n stuff like that lmao

I hope you applied some varnish or protective coat over these things! They will scrape right off if you don’t protect them with some clear coating after! For the “fails” or mistakes (ie: Garath’s gifts 😂) why not add a little spray paint after? Not fully spray paint, but lightly spray over it from a distance to add more color or fill in certain areas that were missed in the dip process? Like the missing spots where you hands were holding the item or the backs of the shoes? Fill in those areas with spray paint of similar colors straight out of the can? Just some ideas! I’m certainly no expert. 💖🤘🏻😎

This technique derives from the art of paper marbling. They sometimes use "combs:" lengths of wood with projecting wires spaced at even intervals like 1" that they draw through the floating pigment in different directions to create very fine featherlike details.

I actually really liked Gareth’s controller. Apart from the buttons which you put back in the wrong way. That made me twitch 😂

I always love your experimentation type videos. You have immense natural talent but it's comforting (and amusing with your great stage presence) to see you make mistakes and work through them. Especially for a creator like me who has less experience and talent. Please keep up the good and entertaining work :) Also... all the dips you did look awesometastical :)

I really like these types of vids. As a multi-art artist myself, I like seeing the endless realm of possibilities

It seems like he forgets to clear the paint from the surface before pulling the item up out of the water which puts another layer of splotchy paint. It seems like he gets better at it by the end.

I have only tried this very small scale on barrettes for my girls years ago with drops of nail polish in water in a takeout container, but even with that, you have to clear the surface before pulling it up otherwise it was gross not smooth.

I was doing this years ago when I had a powder coating business. We added borax to the water and enamel paints to create the patterns.

Experimentation is one of the best parts of any art form, imo. I do fluid art and I LOVE trying new things. It’s SO much fun. 😃

I did something like this in class in elementary school, except I think we likely used droppers or another kind of applicator instead of spraypainting the surface of the water. One would understandably not trust a room of 12-year olds with cans of spraypaint. We dipped cardbook covers for each of us to take home, and I still have mine! Sometimes I take a look at it and think it's quite charming, with the boldly badly done flowers and its uniquely childlike color choices, lol.

That is cool. My daughter was 11 or 12 when she took several cans of spray paint to school for an art project. That was for 6th grade which is middle school here. This was around a year and a half ago.

I did that too, back when I was about 7 or 8. I think it was with marbling inks though in small trays of water. Still got mine somewhere.

Yep. Marble arts have been around for several centuries. Oil paints on the surface of water, swirl them around and then lay down paper on top to get a design!!!

Those shoes were def my favorite! I have a pair that actually looks pretty similar! There's something special about these recent videos, where the topics and supplies aren't totally familiar (tin foil is an exception). It just feels like coming home with your friend or a sibling, and just messing around, having a good time, and I LOVE it! Always feels like you have a buddy!

Many of us have done this for years using plain water with powdered borax added (sold in US as 20MuleTeam Borax, a washing aid). Then we use oil based paint/enamels/nail polish to make design on top. This works really nicely on paper - white bags become 'expensive' gits bags, plain pastel paper and envelopes become stationary sets, etc. Also works beautifully on silk like material to make scarves. Some folks use shaving cream as base for the paint - too messy and too expensive.

Most definitely don’t mix different types of paints! 😝 The other thing was that you were spraying too far up from the water, and getting more speckles than those nice random lines. I the the sneakers were the best, though I would have masked off the soles too.(couldn’t tell if you had) The lines on the sneakers were really cool, as well as the color choices!

I love that you're not afraid of experimenting with art mediums that you're both good at and know nothing about; it's quite entertaining, and it really just shows your humility and fun you have! I would absolutely love to see a follow up on this video specifically, with primer and other preparations, as well as using tips that others have thrown out there in the community. Love these videos!!!

The shoes are beautiful! They're my favorite. The phone case looks kind of weird from a distance, but up close, it's got al these little swirly bits and fun things.

One of my favorite childhood memories was making a pair of shoes with my grandmother like this back in the late 80’s. I loved those shoes.

Did you see his portion of the "largest art collab"? He did a spray paint planet. Not bowls, but he did cut circle templates for that

Everything looked so good! The best thing about hydro dipping is you could do it wth anything! The first time I was introduced to it my mom used nail polish and dipped my fingers. Took a lot of prep, but it was the coolest nailjob ever!

I've been watching your videos since like forever, you inspire me to just have a bash at things and do it, because you never know what you might create. Love ya Jazza, keep it up man!

Started watching your content a while ago, and have never strayed away from it since, keep up the good work!

I'd love to see future videos experimenting with this. For a basic first try it still comes out awesome, but I'd love to see Jazza gradually get better at this. Eventually getting them big Jazza type projects with it.

You need to break the surface after you dip to remove the remaining paint so you don’t end up with those trailing strands

I just want to say that Jazza (along with others such as Mark Crilley) really inspired me to be creative and work hard artistically growing up. Jazza makes the type of content I wish more people chose and/or had the ability to create. Its been about seven years since I first discovered this channel and an admiration for the animators and artists behind the art. Thank you.

Im not going to act like I've somehow watched the entire video already, because I havent. All im going to say is that, if its Jazza, its probably gonna be cool.

The glasses are my favourite the the helmet turned out okay could of looked a bit better but for a first try I'm impressed and the controler face plate looks good way better then a normal one. It's a shame the gold didn't work tho that would of been so cool. You have inspired me to want to try this at some point with boots.

Kinda wanna hydrodip the casing for my GameCube with colors from the "icky, paint-like goop" in Mario Sunshine, since it seems to be good at recreating the pattern the goo takes on 🤔

I will never understand how jazza is amazing at so many things, so many of them come so naturally too.
