    Thoroughly enjoyed your on-camera style and the knowledge shared! I've never hydro dipped in my life and was mainly searching for more on this subject after watching the Donut guys give it a try. What's funny is that they were told, and OHW apparently preaches, taping all four sides. The OHW tutorial did show them being able to get all of the wrinkles out; but am thinking starting with this no-tape method makes the most sense... plus it eliminates extra steps and materials. Win-win!

    @@thundertiger76 I never tape four sides.. when I first started I did and learned quickly that it was a bad idea.. film needs to expand and tape will not let it expand.. I do occasionally tape two sides especially with custom film because it is so thin and rolls up like crazy..but that also caused wrinkles where it’s taped but I use a bigger piece of film to allow for that.. I do try not to use tape at all though if I can get away with it... I like your idea about cutting the edges and I’m gonna try that on custom film next time I do some and see if that helps... it’s kinda like that kryptek film... keep those videos coming... we can always learn more...

My one question is if the project doesn’t turn out as well as you planned is there a way of removing the dip from the piece and starting over? Three years later and this shows up in my recommended. I'm actually surprised people though taping at all would work. Water does what it wants to what's put in it. Not very many things can counter that. Trick is to get it to work for you. But I did learn one thing. The side that sticks to your finger is the side that gets set down on the water.

    LOL..... I took classes at OHW a couple years ago... and BBG was my go to place for supplies. Don't do it much anymore just no demand for it here really....seemed to be more of a fad than anything... Cutting the slits was a BBG tip back in the day.... Good video, glad to see people sharing more information on the process now....

    This is absolutely stunning and finally I found something genuine regarding hydrographics. Can you please make a video of converting a digital picture to a hydrographic film, simply how can we transform a photo into a printed film?

    Much faster and I don't have to goof around with tape all the time. One less step in the process and is much easier once you get the hang of it.

    Hey man, Love your videos and information. but if you dont have a fancy set up like you with a hydro tank its a good idea to tape 2 sides to contain the film just not all 4 like you mentioned.. much love for all your videos

  • @AllThingsFunHydrographics

    @AllThingsFunHydrographics

    You can use tape by laying it across the water to hold the film, don't put the tape on the actual film itself. Another easy thing you can do is make some dams for real cheap using aluminum roofing flashing or pvc pipe. Just cut it to fit your tub or tank.

  • @xex2kok
    @xex2kok Жыл бұрын

    The 4 sides thing really depends on the film. I have some that love to spread and stretch over the whole water surface when not taped up properly. Maybe they are just bad films I don't know but when taped on all 4 sides they work great so can't really complain.

  • @scottilewis3753
    @scottilewis3753 Жыл бұрын

    Reason 1 and 3 are the same lol. As someone that understands physics, you can absolutely make the hydrofilm flat with tape, unless your a dizzy 5 year old. Reason 2 makes perfect sense and doesn't need 1 and 3 to sell me on the idea. Still best video I've seen on the topic 👍

    Great video. I’ve been trying to get information about how to dip ice fishing rods. If your not familiar, they have small diameter and are typically between 20-40” long. There aren’t any dippers near by and I prefer not to ship my rods. My biggest questions are when dipping a rod does it have to spin to get coverage? And is there a way to make the dip seamless. I plan on using a carbon fiber style dip.

  • @AllThingsFunHydrographics

    @AllThingsFunHydrographics

    To dip a fishing rod you will go straight in and it will leave a seam no matter what. Just make sure the seam is on the side that you will not be looking at when fishing and it will be fine. Some patterns that are more random leave the seam less noticeable but with carbon you will defiantly see a seam.

    Great tips. I've seen several of your videos about prepping plastic items for hydrodipping, including how you flame treat everything. I haven't seen you dip any clear plastics like Lexan, though. Obviously you wouldn't want to prime or paint lexan if the idea is to see the dip through the clear lexan -- "reverse painting" does this all the time without a problem of paint not adhering to lexan. They just wash the lexan with soapy water before painting. Are the inks in hydrographic films just not good at adhering to lexan like paints are ? If you could dip the reverse side of lexan, how could you do that ? With the item in the tank below the film and then pull up into the film? Or dipping normally ? Would the film appear correct if you were looking through lexan at what had been the activator side of the film ?
