I love your channel, I'm 65 years old and I remember the craftsmen at the shoe repair shop. That place is long gone now and its a shame because our town lost something special. I am glad to see that you are continuing the craft and passing on the knowledge. I hope you thrive in your endeavours for many years to come.

@@snoopu2601 You always think of a bootmaker as an old guy with a cigar and grey hair. Lots of people strive to order a pair of custom boots from Brian. If you watch enough boot videos the name Role Club comes up quite often as a great high end bootmaker.

@@SilenceSeven right on, yeah I know. I used to live in Richmond California where they built the battle ships for WWII. There used to be all kinds of small businesses Mom and Pop shop's all over the bay area. The last time I took dress shoes to a resole shoe shop in the early 80's. I have worn tennie shoes or work boots for so many year's I don't even know if we still have shoe repair shop's. I just got rid of them. I always wanted a custom made or just find a solid full grain leather boots a size 5 1/2 it is very hard to find a small size unless they are army or sailor shoes or boots. Oh back to the small shop's they are all gone politicians made it into a one time use and through it away and buy another one. Just about everything they make you will be very lucky it last over 10 year's. I believe in taking care of my thing's so it will last me a very long time. I figure I buy a boot off Brain it will last me the rest of my life because I'm in a wheelchair so I won't be walking on them. I just need fern boot to keep my foot straight and protect my foot and look good with some shoe polish it will shine like glass. That's how I used to shine my brown boot on Friday's with clear shoe polish. I was a welder so by Thursday they would look pretty bad I would clean them up and wax them so they would be good for a week. Thanks for replying Silence Seven. I like your name very cool.

Thanks for the awesome video! It's funny how many people consider boot maintenance a minor thing, yet they nag about how fast their footwear goes out of order and they have to spend money on new pairs. It's that easy - treat your leather boots once-twice per month with some soap and conditioner and they'll be fine. Plus with resoling you can prolong the lifetime of a pair - just look after the upper part of the boots good enough and with a resole you'll have your "new" old boots

Since they are comfy and I love them, when they give out every so often I reglue them, etc. They are going to have to split to pieces before I quit resuscitating them. I Just can't let them die. lol! I use leather honey products for conditioning and kiwi plain black for the extra shine. Since I’m not getting ready for parades and inspections anymore I may opt for your natural shine and enjoy them rather than worry about scuffing the mirror shine.

I like your information. My dad was a lineman and always kept his boots taken care of. He made his own grease out of bear grease and neetsfoot oil. He always taught me to treat your boots when they had gotten wet. He did some of the same steps you do. He would brush the dirt off and let them dry a little but not completely. He said letting them dry completely would also let the oils out and they would get stiff. He would rub in a good coating of the grease and then let them sit and then clean off the excess. They were tough environment work boots so the Polish was not done. They weren't pretty but he got long life out of his boots. One of my brothers and I have stayed with keeping our shoes taken care of. A cared for pair of shoes just sends a positive message. Any comments on dad's grease good or bad would be appreciated. Thanks

Great and helpful video. That’s pretty much the way I do it only using glycerin saddle soap from cleaning saddles and other tack. Saddle soap does a great job cleaning leather. It cleans shoes really well & does great with saddles. It removes horse sweat and replenishes leather that’s gotten wet. The only other thing I used was Lexol which works like the Cadillac cleaner you use. I never used the Lexol on shoes because they didn’t need it.

In winter time, we were putting the polish near the room heater to have it more cremay and easy to use with brushes. It also helped breaking our black military boots.

Best conditioner I found is called Garrison Grease on Amazon. It's nice that it's non-toxic as I like to actually use my hands to rub it into the boot leather. On their website they talk about it being used on horse tack so as not to poison the horse. I know a lot of products use some pretty nasty chemicals.

Great video and gorgeous boots! I actually find shoe polishing meditative and relaxing, do you? Do you also use a seperate set of brushes for different/lighter colored leathers?
