I don't understand, those 2 statements are mutually exclusive, so you can say that and have a point. Between equally matched sides, he's right, you rarely find games where one side dominates for 90 minutes, games have periods for both sides far more often than not. And you certainly don't need to dominate for 90 minutes to win a game.

Not true. Simon (and you) are conflating the games against Croatia and Italy with this one. In those games we started well, took the lead and faded due to fear and passivity. In this game we started indifferently, France scored a good goal, and we gradually grew into the game to the point where we probably shaded it and were certainly on top for extended periods. They're totally different games, and show the evolution of the group and the manager. But Simon wants to make exactly the same criticisms as before. It's not relevant to this game and Mills, although emotional, is correct.

"Were you being proactive as a football club owner, I've looked into it" So he has done research on Simon Jordan as a owner and questions him if he was proactive to make a managerial change while the conversation is about a football match and tactics during the game. He took the term proactive all the way to ownership of a football club decisions. He did the same with Pep Guardiola not winning UCL with Manchester City. You can't put Southgate and Pep Guardiola in the same sentence. Also, UCL is played every year. Southgate has been to 3 tournaments and the players are aging. Stop comparing club level competitions to national level, and Pep Guardiola has credit in the bank with titles at Manchester City and UCL trophies at FC Barcelona.

If Kane scored Southgate would have parked the bus and England would have tried to wait for penalty's. Which they would most likely lose. Where as France would actually try to win the game before it got to that. I doubt England's ability or desire to score from open play, i think Southgate's tactics are all about goals from penalty's and corners, like he doesn't believe scoring from open play is even that important.

In fact if a lot of these players are still around at the next world cup would be a dad's army at that stage. Make no mistake this was an unbelievable opportunity for England to win the world cup because there is no outstanding team at the tournament. Southgate, and the players bottled it.

France were playing in transitions. They weren't playing like a front foot attacking team. They were happy to soak up a little pressure and quickly move the ball through the lines. The talk in the English media about how England dominated France is pure nonsense. France were comfortable and England didn't actually create a whole lot from open play. But there was a period from around 60 minutes onwards where France started pushing up, looking to get a second goal. Their defensive line was getting closer and closer to the halfway line. That was the time to bring Marcus Rashford on. He's one of the best players in the world at running in behind, he's in form and full of confidence. Not only that, Kane was dropping deep, trying to be a playmaker but for that to be effective he needed runners, not players who only want the ball to feet. Heck, all the talk in France was that Rashford was England's biggest threat. They rated him far more highly than his own manager did but instead of bringing him on when he could have been most effective, Southgate waited until France had a lead to defend and could sit deeper, nullifying Rashford's biggest asset. Croatia were there for the taking. Italy, in what was a home final for England, where there for the taking. France were there for the taking but rather than being brave and going for the win, Southgate, every single time, showed cowardice and tried to play it safe. England won't win anything with him as manager. They might not win anything anyway but the odds of them winning a tournament decrease the longer he stays in charge. His record against the big teams is abysmal and the biggest danger for England is that Southgate will stay on and a generation of supremely talented players will be wasted.

I really think we have an amazing squad of players - possibly the best I've ever seen in terms of strength and depth. That is the overwhelming positive. My major concern is the in game management. We tend to react too late to what is happening on the pitch. The substitutions in their timing and who comes on/off is also frankly bizarre. I never thought we would win in 2018 and it was a great journey. But we absolutely should have won last year and we should have won on Saturday. If we had pushed hard in that first 25 minutes last year it would have been different (Italy all over the place - Chiellini even admitted as much). The subs were brought on in extra time - I even seem to recall Henderson was brought on and then substituted!!!!! On Saturday why take Saka off and replace with Sterling? Why is he not using Grealish and Rashford earlier - you have to at least give them 25 minutes to make an impact. Its not good having a nice big squad if you are not going to use them properly - its like having a trump card and not using it. This is also why the Lionesses won - the Manager is a master at reacting quickly to what is occurring on the pitch. I just wish that Gareth would learn and try and improve because in other areas he has done so well.
