Shearer has torn into players performances on many occasions. He speaks his mind. Go look up his criticism of Newcastle. I mention this as it's clearly because of his love of the club. A lesser pundit would tone down their views because of their previous association. Martin Keown won't say a bad word against Arsenal and Gary Neville has toned down any criticism of Ole when at Man Utd.

Yep. Listening to all these people in their safe spaces is disgusting. I like listening to Keane because he speaks from the heart, and I’m a Liverpool fan. I love him speaking. This sanitisation of everything is destroying football. Not allowed to boo, not allowed to jeer, not allowed to have banter with opposition fans, not allowed to criticise. It’s ridiculous. Yeah there are some politically incorrect chants at football games but they’ve been on the terraces for years and years. This push to sanitise everything is destroying football, and society and culture as a whole. We used to be humorous, self deprecating and up for a bit of banter. It's common sense. When you see someone playing crap like Maguire, you're just waiting for him to make a mistake. Every person can be biased at times. But Roy seems to do it less than most.

Don’t find myself agreeing with Simon very often, but he’s spot on here. As a United fan, Maguire should be nowhere near that England squad based on his form. He’s been one of the worst defenders in the league this season.

Look up Roy Keanes interview when Ireland drew 2-2 with Holland in Amsterdam . Saying it like it is since bread was invented . Refreshingly Roy ☘️

This from Danny Mills that held a winding up order against the club he played for and laughed at the fact he could have collapsed them.

Apart from a few preseason friendlies I've seen every single game Maguire has played for Man United. He's a decent defender for a low block team but for a front foot possession based team that defends from the halfway line, he's completely out of his depth and that's been the issue. When Solskjaer bought him United were a counter attacking team. Ole tried to switch to a possession based team which didn't suit the likes of Maguire or Wan Bissaka. It doesn't make them bad players, they're just the wrong players for the system.

Roy Keane watches every United game as does the rest of us so when we comment about how poor Maguire is it comes from knowledge. Not “snippets” as Mills says. Maguire has been one of the poorest CB in the league for the past few seasons. It’s not working and he simply isn’t good enough

I much prefer Keane & Souness as they think carefully and with skill and they make a good argument. I also like Paul Merson because his skill at analysis of players and teams is also exceptional. The other pundits are all too wimpy and don't really have much to really say. Sorry I have watched Maquire several times and he is very average, yes its an opinion but I am a Chelsea fan and even players I like if they don't play well enough I am critical also if they play well I will say so. Constant poor form is going to be criticized by all fans and they decide themselves and say Keane influences them is rubbish, I think you find they agree with him because they saw the same thing.

I always record MOTD in order that I can fast forward through the pundits as what they say is so vanilla and they're so scared of offending anyone it's not worth listening to. People like Keane, Neville and Carragher are a breath of fresh air as they say what they think and give their honest opinions. Shearer, Wright, Jenas, Murphy, Keown and 99% of the football pundits on telly are so vanilla. They spend an awful lot of time saying nothing of any consequence.

When I first started to listen to TalkSport I disagreed almost with everything Simon said. I now find myself the opposite and agreeing with him most times. His arguments are always progressive and thorough.

Bang average danny mills knows as much about the game as any armchair viewer. He won nothing and achieved nothing, left zero mark on the game. You listen to Roy because he achieved legendary status and knows what it takes to be a serial winner. Having watched every minute of maguire this season he has cost utd on multiple occasions and is actually utds 4th choice CB on form at best.80mill and capt politics are the only reason he plays at present. We highlight his good games by games we havnt had to call him out for mistakes,creating panic or being outpaced/twisted up. He lacks capt mentality and currently top tier form,his basic mechanics or poor pace,positioning and awareness mean he can’t pass a certain ceiling to reach elite.

Graeme Souness and Roy Keane. Both Captains of their respective Clubs who were also consistently dominant during their period. They bring a gravitas in their punditry, as well as never shirk an issue like they didn’t hold back in tackles.

My 1, 2, 3 is Keane, Souness, Shearer in that order. Mainly because they have played at the very top level and achieved at the highest level. They also speak their mind without sugarcoating their views.

Nothing more refreshing than a pundit demonstrating they're watching or watched the same game as you as either a fan of the team or simply the sport. The problem with too many pundits is they're too deeply involved in the circus and have close associations with the performers, so they're afraid to too bluntly criticise them.

Listening to Simon Jordan and Keane stimulates my brain (whether I agree with them or not). Listening to Redknapp and Jason Cundy or whosoever feels like 'nails on a chalkboard' to my ears.

Jason cundy is shocking. He tried far to hard to banter which isn't funny at all. Wht guy thinks kane is better than a prime Rooney. Who does kane score against for this england team

Surely im not the only one that would love to see simon jordan get a place on the sky sports panel alongside the likes of keane. Need more people that are willing to call a spade a spade.

Harry Maguire sowed the seeds of his downfall when arrested and he said words to the effect of, do you know who I am. Equally fans have been saying for a long time that he’s a shocker. Keane is calling it as it is. Yes, some of the social media presence is unpleasant but that’s the environment they operate in.

It seems impossible for almost every other talksport pundit to argue their case against Simon. He's usually always spot on and too intellectual for talksport.

It’s probably because they’re passionate about what they have to say. Outside of Ole Gary Neville has a *lot* to say on Untied, no different with Keane albeit he will go in that little bit more if he feels he needs to.

I've watched Maguire every single game even when he plays for England just because he has 7 goals in 42 appearances means he is good the man job is to defend an he is horrible at doing dat. Even when he plays for England he makes mistakes but fools wud say he plays great for them because he scores goal against San Marino, Albania an Hungary.

I'm literally tired of these ex players.

Roy Keane is just showing his passion ,pundits don't influence most fans they can see it for themselves. Maguires needs to improve immensely if he is looking for a future at United,Roy more than anyone would love to see him get his game together.

We all know Harry Maguire needs to be dropped to get his mind right.....but these dumb coaches and ex players...both Man U and England refuse to do that and try to play him back to good form but it just gets worst smh

He has stud up for Maguire eg Denmark when he got sent off on Tuesday and the og vs spurs. He hasn't beened good enough and Roy job is to point it out

Pundits have absolutely no part in the opinions of fans. However I love it when Roy belittles a player. Simon is correct it doesn't matter how you say your point if it's correct then it's correct.

'how many times have these people seen harry maguire play?' well im a united supporter so every weekend. and roy keane is absolutely correct in his criticism of maguire.

We could only wish for a politician with the honesty of Roy Keane, he might not be the best manager, but he definitely says it as it is and he doesn't down play things, and Simon is right, people do like that, he's passionate about his old team when he is talking about the games they play and how the players are.

I think it's the opposite of what Mills said. I think a lot of pundits don't watch the games and make up their mind based on relationships and reputation of the player. I've seen Maguire make loads of mistakes this season that haven't lead to goals, and they wouldn't be on the highlights packages that pundits watch. So if you just watch them, Maguire doesn't seem as bad.

Personally, i really like Keane and Souness. Most ex-players turned pundits spend too much time pandering to their own. I am sick to death of pundit defense of Maguire and the pity party over his being booed for England. He is slow. His football intelligence is poor. His positioning is poor. His leadership is poor. He is a mediocre centre half at best.

people listen to Roy because he was a born winner, look at what he has achieved compared to Maguire. Roy was a real world class player and led Man Utd by example and I'm a Liverpool fan. Wish we signed him.

I disagree Keane was a born winner. He has a winner's mentality because he always gives 100% and simply will not accept second best - that is why he is so damning of Maguire

Simon is spot on, absolutely bang on 90% of the time.

Why do some pundits love to act like Maguire has been performing like Prime Maldini and that all criticism coming his way is unjust

International managers picking squads on reputation rather than form is putting these players in the firing line. If the fans feel the players arent there on merit then they are more than free to voice their opinions.
