@@jagjit4001 Southgate made two crucial subsistutions, taking off Trippier and Rice. While Rice is not an offensive midfielder "per sè", he gave balance to that team. And Trippier, even on his worst day, is a pest, the only one in a team devoid of "leaders" or so it seems. To me these two substitutions, and the timing of'em, changed the game and screamed "lack of urgency", and therefore allowed us to come back in the game.
Southgate has a 16.7% win rate vs FIFA top 10 ranked teams (played 24 game with 4 wins) over his tenure as England manager. I wonder what Mills would say if asked about that win record not knowing it’s his mate Southgate’s? I’d bet he’d say a replacement is needed.

It also says alot about the lack of attraction to international management by top managers at the moment. There isn’t a Del Bosque of our era, Mancini is probably the best manager on the international stage currently and I doubt he’d ditch Italy for us, he’d not be able to go back , Southgate is as good as anyone who would consider taking the job
This England team under Southgate is the Tim Henman of international football! Pat on the back, well done lads, try again next time!

I just want to give an honorable mention to Simon's ability to engage in a disagreement in such a poised way while being able to get a logical point across. I would be interested to hear a psychologist's analysis of his style of arguing.
I wonder about Poch. He may be similar to Southgate. However he did do substitutes quite well bringing on Llorente to get spurs to the final. Was unlucky in the finals. Poch did do a different formation in every single match at the end of Spurs and the cahmpions league run. Which made it tricky for the players but even harder for opponents to know how to lineup against Spurs. Poch understands English culture and not exactly sure but i think his children grew up here
This is the most outrageous suggestion. Dyche for England? LMAO don’t be silly now 🤣
"It's known you're chums with Gareth" Says it all. Mills defended Steve Bruce like crazy.
No foreign manager has ever won the World Cup, and only two have reached the final match: George Raynor of England, with Sweden in 1958, and Ernst Happel of Austria, with the Netherlands in 1978.
So how can Mills explain the Morocco results? We lost twice to Hungary this year!!!
As a man who was fortunate to have lived through the great years of Alf Ramsey his first comment on being the job was we will win the World Cup, which we did. He was a footballers manager who stood no nonsense. He was criticised for getting rid of wingers who he said didn’t contribute enough, had a system that had no room forJimmy Greaves or Johnny Bryce and best of all took no notice of the media

Southgate would get sacked as city manager within 1 season.
Mills: You can't compare international football management to domestic football management Also Mills: Now let me compare England to Man City
Courage of your convictions
Can you imagine a regular Tuesday evening lads meet up pint in the Pub with Danny Mills to relax and unwind, there would be a lot of excuses every week to not make it.
It's a valid point. How would England have got on with the best English manager of recent decades, how many titles would we have won had the Telegraph not stitched him up. Bring back BSA.
People seem to forget tournament football is based on fine margins. Once all the tactical and player management stuff is done and dusted at the end of the day you’re either in or you’re out through the finest of margins or calls or moments that don’t go in your favour. That’s sport in general not just football!
I don't hate it at all, he's an expert at the kind of football that tends to do better in int'l tournaments along with a strong personality that commands the players' respect
100% England would have made it as far if not further under Allerdyce! He was so motivated to prove himself with that job!
No one argues that Southgate is a superb man manager and has created a culture, a foundation that will stand us in good stead for decades. However, there is no denying that Southgate blinks at virtually the same hurdle every time. His main weakness is in-game management. I don't see a tactical agile mind when challenged to best a top team, he is Mr safe.
