Sigma 105 1.4 vs Sigma 85 1.4. Here's the REAL World Difference!

Фильм және анимация

Bokeh Nation! Today I finally got a chance to give you all my perspective on the 105 vs 85. Many of you have asked about this comparison for a very long time. There are a lot of people on KZread and other platforms that try to compare the two but never give you the real footage or the real reasoning on why they are actually different and why use one over the other. Today i'm going to offer you an in-depth picture on the two and the difference in both.

They’re definitely in the same ballpark. The 35mm seems to say “I am in this place”. The 50mm seems equally weighted between the environment and the model. The 85mm emphasizes the model and says “this is who I am”. The 105mm and 135mm takes that to the next level. They seem to say “look at me because you can’t look anywhere else” as the model commands attention. The 200mm f/2.0 is so extreme that the bokeh almost becomes the star of the photo. My 300mm f/2.8 brings the background in so close and blurry that it almost looks like a bad photoshop.

Great Job!!! Absolutely amazing. I have had every single prime lens from the 35mm to the 135mm made by Sigma. I personally prefer the 40mm and the 105mm. This sums up my personal preference on those. You literally can't go wrong with any of these lenses. She killed it with the outfits and poses, and You brother ... you are right up there!!! Another awesome video. Thanks for ensuring we know WHY one would us the 85mm and 105mm. I remember years ago I was recommended and purchased wrong lens for portrait photography. The lens my buddy was using which I purchased was a wide lens for landscape not portrait. Lol. I think it’s dope how you make it make sense. You take it down to parade rest for us. Thanks again for great video. You are the complete package when it comes to photography.

Actually preferred the 85 shots on the bridge. Since it was a pretty sweet location. I feel if you have a somewhat nice location grab the 85 1.4 or A 50 f1.2. If you don't want to show the environment too much and focus on the model, like in a busy street I'd go with the 105.

Another great video, thanks. How much power were you using on the AD400 when able to stay within sync speed? Since using 6stop clip in filters I’ve found my AD300 has plenty of power. I actually sold my AD400 because since using ND’s. I used to own the 104 mm f1.4 Art, and loved the output I got from it. It really has that 3D pop. But the Sigma 85mm I’m using now, has ‘almost’ as a good a look but is so much smaller and lighter. Plus I prefer the closer working distance to the models.

  • @BrandonColePhotography

@@steverogers1039 Could... But slower recycle times, more heat generated, cuts the life of the light. So I'd stick with the 400, always good to have that extra light to overpower the sun. Sometime the 400 isn't enough, why gamble with a 300? I would even prefer two ad200's and bring a duo head bracket. Way more versatile than a 300. In bright situations, use 2x200 400w. In a little less bright or dusk, you can place 2 lights.. A key and a hair/rim light. I guess it's personal preference.

Funny to hear because my lens choices are the GM 35mm, Nikons 300mm 2.8 with the adapter and now this 105mm from Sigma which I just recently tried and ordered, which I will be having in place of my GM 135mm that I sold! Can't believe I spend that much money on a 135 GM, when this lens has been right in front of my nose all this time and now thanks to my friend, I had a chance to do a shoot with it and soon it will be in my main kit!

Very true but focal lengths are extremely important because they are the tools that gets the job done. And in order to know what tool to use depends on the wishes of the client. Yep they might not understand but thats why they pay us.

Sometimes even at 1/8000 of a sec is still not enough to stay underexposed but more so the ability to get the full power out of your flash. When you go into HSS you lose power from your flash

I own the Sigma 105, Sigma 135 and the Samyang 85 and the 135mm is my current favorite. But that 105 ain’t no joke.
