Sigma 35mm vs 50mm. Do you need both lenses?
Фильм және анимация
Bokeh Nation! Today I finally got a chance to give you all my perspective on the 35 vs 50. Many of you have asked about this comparison for a very long time. There are a lot of people on KZread and other platforms that try to compare the two but never give you the real footage or the real reasoning on why they are actually different and why use one over the other. Today i'm going to offer you an in-depth picture on the two and the difference in both.

I shot natural light for a long time and these two focal lengths were all I needed. The storytelling you get with the 35 when you incorporate flash is just next level IMO. The 35 and 50 are still my go to focal lengths unless I’m looking to compress the background, and that’s when the 85, 105, or 135 gets attention. 🔥🔥🔥 video as always bro.

Love your channel, the more confident you are at giving the model direction, the better the outcome. Some models don't open up until you explain how beautiful they are and capturing it is your job. This is how you turn beauty into art.
Another Awesome video. Great tutorial. Waiting on the next one already.
Great job keeping the model engaged. I would say that all lenses can tell a story, it just depends what you are typing to convey
Great photos! Great video as well.
Good comparison video and I enjoyed watching it.
Hey Oma, this was a fantastic explanation, thanks brother!
Very good comparison, esp. with the equal distance. Love your OCF style
It’s good to see engagement with the models. Some people feel uncomfortable, but the understanding that we are in this together helps the model to feel at ease; I feel you accomplished that. The 35 is the environmental lens and it’s good all around. If I had a choice, the 35 would be it. Good shooting.

Brandon, I watch your videos all the time, but do you ever use last year's equipment?
I got both. I love the 50 for close ups.. 35 for telling story like you said. Nice 🤙🏽
Nice job Mr Brandon 👏🏽My favorite lenses 35mm ,50mm and 135mm...
I see you was recording your EVF. When you do that in photo mode does it makes it so that your unable to see what you shouting threw your EVF or back screen? I’m curious. Keep up the dope work

I use Fuji's APS-C 33mm and 56mm as a complimentary pair,; it's stunning combo for my taste of photography. If I find that I need wider I pull out the iPhone - more than good enough for a snap destined for social media.

You need to have the strobe and octabox over the largest leg of the c-stand for stability, and use a weight or sandbag over the leg for safety.

I'm really feeling your DIRECTIONS to your model as you instruct to achieve your shot. That's a learning point I'm really feeding on. Thank you .
Nice & LOL at how fast you deleted that drunk picture . Sidenote when do you choose not to use the lens hood? I use the hood all the time out of habit . You have a lot of faith in that flash trigger I use a left hand grip with a cold shoe on top to add monitors & other stuff to my camera when using flash.

I was about to get the new sigma 35mm f1.4 but ended up purchasing Sony 35mm f1.8. Never look back. Images were so sharp and the lens is really fast focusing.
Brandon, new to your channel and love your content !! Can you please tell me what flash I should buy AND a what trigger I need so I can over power the sun and shoot pics like you ? I have a Sony A7iii with a 24/70 g master and I’m getting a 7/200 g master . Please and thank you 🙏
B. Money on the grind. What’s good cuz. I shoot with both. Sigma 35 1.4, Panasonic S 50 1.4, and a Leica SL 75mm. All great looks.

Actually, I bought my 35mm out of an accident, at the end it turned out to be my favorite lens and focal length in general (on location). Just sold my 50/1.4 because I haven't used it for two years.

Do you still prefer your 35mm over the 50 ?
What metering do you use? You know like for Nikon there's spot, center-weighted and Matrix
What program do you use to get the models skin to look so clear and crispy..
Is that a 25" dish? Also, are you using a gel on the flash? Just curious.
Thanks for the useful video! Love your jacket fyi :)
That 1.2 lens is so nice, perfect for short model shoots like this if you love the 35mm focal length can't beat it. I ended up buying the 35mm GM though due to the size and weight it makes for a better all day lens as well, but I secretly want the f1.2 still 😁😁
What modifier was uses during this shoot?
Ive seen the box on some reviews before, what's the top box where you see the image, what is it called? Newbie to photography here

Hello men good vídeo I want yo know what monitor do You use please
Honestly. I used my 50mm 1.4 for years. I really love the look with the 35mm. I currently shoot with my 85mm 1.4 and I love that lens a lot. So I probably will be getting a 35mm 1.4 soon. I feel with me shooting my 85mm, once I get my 35mm I probably will just shoot those 2 lenses.
I think the 35mm and the 85mm is the more versatile combo....If you really need a bokeh duo, the 50mm and the 105 or 135mm should do the trick as well
@ErwinRoossien
Жыл бұрын
Jup that's my default setup as well. However, when doing full body shots I feel the 85 1.4 just doesn't compress and blur out the bg enough. The 105 1.4 bokeh monster feels like the perfect lens in that setup. The 135 I never consider, seeing it's less versatile. And you'll be yelling at your model 😅
What's the setup you have on top of your camera is that a cell phone

You give some good information. Now I only have the 50mm and were wondering do I need the 35mm or get zoom 28-70. I'm kinda stuck cause of my budget. I have the Sigma 14-24mm (WD) Sigma 50mm, and the Sigma 70-200 I believe I'm covering a good range with what I have. But as you probably know when it's come to gear you spend a great deal of time wondering what do you really need.

sure it depends which time it is, but in most cases the 400 should do the job. my ad200pro cant beat the sun. but 2 of them in combo gives u 400w like the xplor 400. and i see some videos where two of the ad200 was powerfull enough. im thinking about to get the 400 and sell my 600 which is too op.

I use the batis 40 f2 CF for the close focus but it kinda takes me away from from owning a 35 (also have a 16-35) and a 50. Funny how the batis 40 has so little reviews on KZread. I’d die for a faster batis upgrade mark II line.

@@BrandonColePhotography true. I bought mine second hand. I got the 40 f2 CF for 1300CAD (which is a little over 1000USD) and the 25 F2 for 750 CAD. Both mint and barely used. Now I like the zeiss Color pop/no distortion and everything on the 25 but I’m just not a 25 prime kinda guy so I’m open to selling it.. it’s when it comes to the 40 f2 CF I get stuck. It’s honestly the most versatile prime I ever owned and can’t find anything like it. I’m a 35 and 85 prime lover but for promoting my food business.. the 40 happens to be my workhorse. It focuses so close and has a good maximum magnification for products and could be switched to mid and long range. Sharp from f2. The lack of physical control absolutely sucks. I have yet to find a lens like this. I am however going to try out the 35 1.4s that are available for the Sony e mount as my “story teller” lens.

Couldn’t you get the look of a 35mm by stopping down the 50mm to something higher like F4-11? This would include more of the background like the 35mm. You would have to stand back a bit more
Buy the 35mm 1.2 & when you want a 50mm just hit crop mode on your camera. That will turn the 35mm 1.2 into a 50mm 1.8. Problem solved & saves you some bucks. Even with the megapixel loss it wont be that bad. 🤷🏽♂️

Well 1mm wider does make more difference than 1 mm longer,
hear me out! nope, shoulda shot it @1.2, i think that's really what people want to know. if you shoot full frame and you crop in that 35 1.2 @1.2, i dont think you will need a 50 1.4. You will likely get a tad bit more blur which will compensate for the compression of the 50mm f1.4 making the 35 just as bokehlicious as the 50-1.4 except you're doing it with only 1 lens with the added benefit of having more light onto the sensor. yes you lose megapixels but unless you're printing for a gallery, you wont be able to tell and even the 12mp would be fine incase you still running a 24mp sensor. less gear to take with you.

50mm has the least character so I think that is the problem. Its not bad but its too casual how 28mm is at some cases just because all phones have it so a lot of people wanting out of this world look in their media will use 35mm 85mm or even something like 16mm to get more unique look. What I see people often lean towards 16mm, 20mm, 24mm, 35mm (this one is just so good for everything, I even tried to look for super sharp copy of 35mm of my 16-35mm haha, I just love to zoom from 16mm to 35mm in my videos), 85mm, 135mm, 400mm, 600mm

@@Almi6hty i feel 50mm can look kinda cool if you film bars/restaurants (because it was the first place I filmed with 50mm and it was perfect there, tried elsewhere and it was kinda too boring) and some portraits of course. But 35mm is so much better - its still have tons of bokeh (very similar to 50mm) and gives much more unique/cinematic look, so it is a winner. I wasn't a big fan of phones 28mm (it is usefull fl just not "everywhere" as phone camera manufacturers kinda suggests) so I though I wouldn't be so much fan of 35mm but oh boi I was wrong. Now currently looking into 85mm. Doubt I would buy prime more than 100+ but I may grab telephoto zoom for that like 100-400, that one really interests me just waiting for new version
