Basically, you should challenge any midwit fortune cookie style advice you hear. 1. "The breakup happened for a reason". However, you also got together for a reason. These ought to be weighed against each other. Do your 5x5! 2. "You're weak to get back with an ex". Myth that it's low status/needy to get back with an ex. You should seek INTERNAL validation for your decisions, not external. 3. "If we get back together, we'll just break up again". Only if nothing has changed, the dynamic hasn't changed, same situation or context. HOWEVER, if you focus on changing yourself, you can show your ex that they're not walking back into the same relationship. You must therefore have a GROWTH mindset. 4. "Plenty of fish in the sea". Scrapping things or not is your decision. But think about what you're looking for in a partner. Be specific. Define the ideal partner for you, the ideal relationship. 5. "Time heals all wounds". It only heals it if you grow, process it, feel the pain and learn from it.

There is plenty of fish in the sea but there is a limited amount of time for investment or only one investment in the relationship, This means the person who tried 20 relationships starts all over 20 times while the one who sticks with one relationship creates much more and is in a higher position with his work and investment in the relationship, is just enjoying the fruits of relationship.

Hi Clay thank you so much for your genuine and realistic advice on navigating honest relationships, my long distance partner and I just broke up, I flew to see them but the answer remained the same as they said we should just be friends, after being there I realized that the love was still there but they were hesitant and stuck to their descison even tho we got really close. Its been almost three years we've been together and half of that long distance. I want to make it work but I'm confused as to what I should do at this point did I blow my chance ?

Hi Clay, me and my ex broke up two months ago after a two months break (recess). We dated almost 3 years and got engaged February 2022. Since then her family hates the idea and pressured us for about 7 months until we broke up. I’ve been in no contact since breaking up in January but broke contact on text for her birthday which I also gave her a financial gift (she appreciated it) and went back to no contact. Recently last week I broke contact and she responded on text we needed more time and space to heal. She does respond to text but doesn’t initiate any communication.

I was with my guy for 19 teen years now in a rebound within one week still together going. On three years. Still make sure that he stays involved with my family my grandkids he's just simply in my family's life after all this time. OMG. WHY??

Hi Clay.. me and my ex are broken up 2 months now.. at first there was no contact.. then we chatted for a bit.. she opened up to me a lot about problems in her life.. given me hot and cold treatment. She said there's something there still but the issues with her life need her full attention.. she hasn't said never again.. should I just get on with life and remain hopeful that we can get back together? Or just leave it altogether.

I was dating someone for 6 months but they were a gambler. I found out just before she disappeared just how bad her habit really was. She didn't ask for space but I felt that she needed space because she told me that she was really stressed out so I was just letting her figure herself out and I let her be. She reaches out every now and then by text or she calls me, but we haven't brought up hanging out together. I told her I'm just giving her the space she needs for now to get things straightened out. Where do I go from here?

@clay Hello. My ex is pulling away after we reconnected and we have been sexually intimate. She is more and more distant and hesitant to talk to me and it's hard to build emotional connection and intimacy. I am having a hard time and need help. I dropped the romantic pressure but she is very stubborn and doesn't initiate at all. It has 2 1/2 months since reconnecting and we were in no contact for 6 months.
