Great summary Mike, I liked the way you approached and summarized this. I've thought of one other group that might want to make the jump from ams1 to ams2 and that is anyone that used to club race on password protected online servers for communities now switching from using ams1 to ams2.

As a rF2 fanboy and someone who loves Pcars2 for it's multiplayer and ease of.... everything. I recommend it. It has bounce, i mean, heave. You can feel the car bouncing up and down and scrapping against the ground on the straights. It's great. BOUNCE!

been having fun on ACC lately, but i think this could top that for me, if they create a good multiplayer rating system this is gonna rock, the reduced price is a deffinite plus, and in this time of staying home, this will keep me entertained for a long time

Really great video - clear and thoughtful. I am only just getting into sim racing (where have I been!) and am now pretty excited for this one. It sounds brilliant. Seems like an improvement on PC2 in almost every conceivable way, except perhaps in terms of pure content at this point. As others have mentioned: how is the AI? It seems the AI from the first game is really highly regarded amongst sim fans - would love to know that that’s been successfully inherited, given that’s one of the most common PC2 criticisms.

So the answer is yes. I am really looking forward to this tomorrow. I love AC, but I am really interested to try something different, especially with cars and tracks I've never driven before.

AMS + VR = no brainer. AMS 1 was my go-to sim and had my vote as best overall sim package until I got VR after which I barely touched it - VR was that much of a game-changer for me. So to say I am excited by this is an understatement.

Mike, I want to compliment you on your videos. You produce a lot of excellent and informative content for sim racers and those looking to be. It is because of you that I got into rFactor 2 and am loving it. One question about both of the Automobilistas: how accurately do they model H-pattern shifting? My one issue with rFactor 2 is that it does not simulate this properly (for instance, you can shift without the clutch, downshift without rev matching, etc.). Any insight you can offer on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

Carl Ema thanks so much for your kind words! And as far as h-pattern shifting, I’ve yet to find a sim that really gets it right. Assetto Corsa may be the closest, but even then it doesn’t seem to simulate all of the nuances. It’s difficult to simulate of course, because in life if you miss a shift there’s the grinding feeling in the shifter, which can’t be reproduced by any piece of hardware I’m aware of. I’ve made mention of the useless clutch in PC2 several times, and each time some people get upset and say some thing to the effect of “if you knew anything about manual transmissions, you’d know that you can shift without the clutch using RPMs”.. which is selectively true, but I find in many sims you can omit the clutch altogether in a road car and shift with impunity. So yes, I’m with you on sims not really emulating h-patterns very well. AMS2 so far is tending toward more accurate physics in this regard, but to be fair I haven’t fully put it through its paces for shifting in various rev ranges without the clutch

@@SimRacing604 Thanks for the insightful reply, Mike. It's good to hear a sim racing veteran's perspective on this apparently widespread issue. I suppose it makes sense that most sims choose to focus on modern race cars and sim hardware that primarily use paddle shifters, but it still is a bit of a shock when you are punished more in Forza than in rFactor 2 for improper shifts. I did recently try out RaceRoom and found that its portrayal of H-pattern shifting was fairly decent (with damage on, of course). Give that a try if you get a chance. I used the manual version of the Formula RaceRoom Junior and definitely was able to damage the gearbox and lock up the rear wheels with improper downshifting. Thanks again, Mike. I've already subscribed, so I'll continue to check out your coverage of AMS2. Looking forward to seeing what Reiza is able to pull off with the Madness Engine.

I havent tried this yet, but i would say it is impossible to go wrong with Assetto Corsa.. not ACC.

Hey Mike, great video. Only one thing i'd add: even tho you mention VR in the summary, i think it should be a separate item on the list for group 1. I think there are a group of people who turned their focus away from AMS because they have bought a vr headset and not willing to go back to flatscreen driving.

Has anyone found a way to edit the HUD layout yet (move things around on screen)? It's possible in PC2 but I can't find the option in AMS2. On a super widescreen monitor the gear indicator is way off in the corner of the screen.

For someone just getting into sim racing, would you suggest this over PC2 or AC?

Easy purchase decision - no problem with early access - if its a bit rough I will just keep on amusing myself until they bring it up to scratch in ACC/PC2/iRacing and F1 2019 (yes yes not a sim but its a fun game nonetheless and at £13 was a steal :P)

Even if you’re really only fond of one or two car/track combinations in AMS 1, the EA price for AMS 2 makes it seem like a no-brainer “yes” just for the improvements to that subset you like. Content Question: Am I seeing things correctly that the AJR’s Powertec engine option is now a turbo V6 instead of the NA V8 from AMS 1?

There’s probably not much point in replying to this now after the EA release. Regardless, the ARJ engine options are the Judd V10, the Honda inline 4 turbo, and indeed a turbo V6. The Powertec naturally aspirated V8 is not present in the initial early access release. Shame, I really enjoyed that option on some tracks. I also thought its sound in AMS 1 was the most like real world P2 cars.

Yeah... I'm too hooked on ACC right now, that for the now, I'm going to pass AM2. I don't remember racing ac, rr, rf2, pc2, am in such a long time... ACC is so head and shoulders above anything else! 😅

@@vMaxDaniel If you play in VR like I and many people do, it is the most important thing. I get physically sick of the blooming and flickering in ACC. I love the physics but once you go VR you don't really want to go back in 2D.

@@0001754 Its not poor at all. The game just doesn't have low enough graphics settings. You should be ashamed to not know the difference. You are talking like a god damn console pleb. You are a PC gamer. Surely you at least have the knowledge to know the difference between workload and optimization?

Server hosting is what we consider when choosing Sims to play, too. Server hosting for AMS2 is a pain although it's already far better than rf2. No native Linux dedicated server is a huge problem.

Some years ago, before I got my PC, I used to love Gran Turismo 5 and I've since then been looking for something as close to that game or better. What racing sim should I get? I just want something as loyal to reallity as possible and that offers ways to customize the car in ways that actually change it's performance greatly like in gt5.

I recommend asseto corsa. There might not be too many cars in the game when you first get it but there are tuns of amazing mods for tracks and cars.

Mike do button boxes work with Automobilista2 ?

As a fan of rFactor 2, my hope is that AMS2 feels similar to it, but provides complementary content. Additionally, I am hoping for an optimized VR experience. Are these hopes realistic?

except the feeling it is already realistic, VR is good since madness engine, content is fun since unusual and pretty cool, the feeling like FFB etc is not bad but not rf2 like, yet atleast, maybe it will, maybe not, personally I dont see it being possible from what I see in the beta build now but never say never

Hello SimRacing604. Are you satisfied with the AI? I’ve seen a couple of videos where the AI seems to be under another set of physical rules regarding grip and acceleration.

AI is still work in progress. It is semi-competent currently and can be enjoyable to some extent but do not expect it to be as good as in other sims yet (AMS1 in particular). It will get better but will require patience.

I've heard it's more controllable/recoverable when traction is lost than project cars 2, does this mean it might be good for drifting?

I’ll be waiting on this until July at least. There’s no single piece of content that makes me say “god I really need to try that game” At this point I don’t think I’ll ever stop playing Assetto Corsa. What I’d really like is AC 2 with more first party tracks like LeMans and Sebring.

Something I like about Project Cars 2 is the very good triple screen support. It runs on triple screens without using NVidia Surround or the AMD version of that, and it allows for having different monitor sizes/resolutions as well (I am running 25"-27"-25", all 1440p). The addition of VR is mentioned in this video, but did not hear anything about triple screen support. AMS 1 didn't really support this I believe... Does anyone know if AMS 2 does? And does it support it in the same way as PC2 does (multiple monitor sizes, angle correction, bezel correction, and the likes).

Despite the setback in pc2 ffb the graphics/graphics performance are still the best in sim racing. I usually play in VR but tried it on my ultrawide today and I was impressed by the visuals eventhough the handling and sound is terrible. I guess this Automoblista 2 maybe the pc2 we all wanted in the first place

Where can you buy it ? I thought it is released by now bu i cant find it on Steam....

How does the sim handle car contact? I’ve always extremely disliked how the first AMS was with contact. If you hit another car, it would glitch over to the side and wasn’t exactly “contact.” And if you had hard contact with another car, it would throw your car into the air. I’m just curious if this problem exists in the new title.

Any ideas regarding whether it’s worth buying if playing on a controller casually?

HACHS 383 hmmm, great question. Obviously nothing rivals modded AC for content, but AMS2 feels for complete and seamless. Weather and time of day aren’t workarounds that require compatibility updates, and the content in AMS2 is more balanced versus the varying quality of mods in AC

Please Mike. Tell me: in AMS I could individually choose each and every vehicle in the race, mixing types and classes as I see fit. You can do this in AC but not in PC2. That is the one thing that dtermines if I buy AMS2. Thank you!

Its already possible in Beta if I understand your question correctly. Totally unrelated cars to make multiclass= yes. However can not yet pick the individual cars from what I understand. Just the different series.

René Blouin there won’t be a career mode at launch. Reiza says they plan on adding it, but probably not until later this year

Anybody help me with my setups? Everytime I try and play a racing sim the car is very loose, when coming into a corner or out of a corner I'm constantly spinning out I work hard to try and feather the throttle and brake early enough with no success

Although I did not try it, AMS2 has controller support and AMS1 had excellent controller support (which is not to say it is as good in AMS2 yet).

You really should have mentioned its VR support more.
