Loving this sim. One of the big pluses for me is actually the different tracks and cars not found in other sims. Refreshing. Some of my best AI races have been on AMS2 with a car/track combo found no where else. I think it should be praised for having this different content and opening sim racers eyes to the great Brazilian race environment. And great review BTW👍👍

5:40 I appreciate how your pronunciation of "Goiânia" is pretty much how a Brazilian would say it. I think that the fact that this game offers tracks and cars that no other sim offers right now is the strongest selling point of this game. This brings variety to this genre. Nice review!

I don't like that there are no setup descriptions. Reiza shouldn't assume that everyone knows what all the options do. Even most real race drivers don't bother with this. They give feedback to their engineers and they sort it out. Games like Raceroom, Assetto Corsa and Project Cars all have this feature so I'm disappointed that AMS 2 doesn't. Never played AMS 1. Do you guys know if this was present in the first one?

  • @matheussaliba

    @matheussaliba

Nope, no help ingame on AMS1, but you had a description in the documentation of the game, which i think is too obscure for casual players.

  • @djvycious

That's a good point, and it would be nice to see modern sims implement a little driver feedback -> engineer setup system to help with the process. I'm fairly familiar with setting up a car in rFactor, but it would be nice to at least have something that would suggest or give feedback on your car settings to streamline car setup. Sure you can do one or more things to fix understeer , for example, but what does the simulation suggest is the best option to maximize performance? Moreover, I find the lack of a visual aid for the gear rations in AMS 2 makes it a lot more difficult to set ratios.

You can tell Reiza are stepping things up in terms of fidelity in sounds, textures, details, moving parts and all sorts of little details that make it come alive. Agreed, for myself I look for track selection over a gazillion cars, AMS2 is lacking in North American tracks (Laguna Seca, Road America and Atlanta, etc) I bought it in early access, played it a bit to see what it was all about, went back to Assetto Corsa and rFactor 2. I'll look at AMS2 again when it starts having useful (to me) content. This is where a modding community would be helpful but AMS2 is not mod'able (bad move on their part). Unless they come up with content I like, then this as a waste of money.

Mike, great review thanks. It does look really nice. I have had the title since it's first day on EA and it has done nothing but frustrate me with it's physics and riving model. Since it has gone GA they seem to have made some really good improvements and I actually now don't get so frustrated with it. I think this title has come along way and knowing Reiza it also has a long journey ahead of it. Thanks for sticking with the channel mate. I get a lot of good AC mod info from you and you haven't let me down yet. Good stuff mate. Now I just hope they do something with the trucks, that's the reason I bought the dang thing lol. very well thought out review having a different roster from most other driving sims for both cars and tracks is a BIG selling point IMO. if it puts you off that there's no monza or ferraris then you're not really a petrol head to begin with. the most fun I've had in AMS2 is using the Rocco prototype, it's not the fastest car in the world but its so enjoyable to drive. I'm more of a hotlap type of person so lack of single player or lack of multiplayer doesn't really bother me. (tbh I can't even remember the last time I actually took part in a race either in single or multiplayer, I like racing the clock. just give me some tracks and some cars and I'll make my own enjoyment. there's only 1 car that I hope gets added and that's the ariel atom, the caterhams are a lot of fun tho

Thanks for another excellent review, Mike. Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦😉. AMS2 runs beautifully on my new, mid-range PC. I love the tracks that are currently there, particularly the old-school Brazilian circuits. However, I have become underwhelmed by the FFB changes during early access. The initial early access of AMS2 had amazing FFB but, on my 10 year-old Fanatec CSR, this has deteriorated markedly over time. I came to sim racing via Grand Prix Legends and love basic, but dynamic, lateral forces. I find ACC supreme in this regard. I don’t care for bumps and undulations, and laser-scanned tracks are low on my list of priorities in a sim. I LOVED the way in which the first release of AMS2 reflected how the Lancer squirmed under braking into Crowthorne bend (turn 1 of classic Kyalami). You could feel the resistance build, and then let go in a tangible way... either in understeer or the rear-end stepping out. This is a track at which I had spent many, many hours in real life, and that initial AMS2 experience just blew my mind... it was better than anything I had experienced, in any other sim. Since then, things have changed significantly (for me, in any case). While the scrub effect is an improvement for users of older wheels, cars now tend to wallow and lack that dynamic feedback on turn in that kept me playing the initial release for hours. On the forum, there was considerable pushback by some users of DD wheels, and Reiza did its best to address those concerns (with significant success, it seems). As with PC2, I found myself going down the Rabbit hole of custom FFB settings ... again... beginning to waste endless hours on trying to recreate that dynamic feedback (evidenced in GPL, RF2 and ACC). I have since stopped playing AMS2, but will give V1 another go... but I am not planning on spending hours of fiddling with it. I have no reason to replace my wheel and CSR Elite pedals (with loadcell) as they are simply fantastic, characterised by the solid over-engineering of early Fanatec. ACC is now my home and I simply love everything about it thus far, apart from the fact that it simply hogs resources and still needs further optimization.

I can't even imagine how much work has had to be put in coming from PC2's engine. (Seriously.. PRAISE developers for giving us people all this entertainment. What would life be like without such technology!?) :D On another note, am I the only one that don't mind the default AMS2 FFB lol? I think it feels great but I definitely should look more into the custom ones. When I tried some in the past I just couldn't get satisfied and was worried I either made it worse or better without knowing so I just kept going back to default.

I just don't like the cars on offer, their liveries, nor the track selection. To be clear, this is absolutely a 'me' issue, but unfortunately for the sim this stuff really matters, and I know I won't be the only one who feels like this. I'd also contrast playing AM2 to my reaction to Kart Kraft: I updated and played the AM2 1.0 release for 10 minutes before quitting out to go back to hot-lapping in that glorious little Kart sim. I was hoping to see this from you sooner than later. Day after release? Definitely counts for sooner. LOL I played AMS 2 for about 2 hours yesterday, trying to get a few laps in many cars and tracks. It feels good out of the box. Definitely need some tweaks and tuning on my wheel, but overall feels good. The game is gorgeous! Is it photo realistic? Maybe not, but I will not lie. I crashed a couple of times on Kyalami on dusk transition to sunset. No joke, it's amazing! Top of the mountain at Bathurst is also pretty amazing. Impressive what 2 different developers can do with the same engine. The additional content is nice too. The game is not perfect, but if Reiza continues to be as attentive moving forward as they were during early release, AMS 2 will have done something special. I look forward to many hours behind the wheel of AMS 2

That may sound a bit weird, but I've actually been on that track and so I feel a certain affinity for it. The VIR mod for AC is OK, but this is a much better experience.

Great summary of where the game is at at launch. For me the AI provides excellent racing and the FFB and driving experience is light years ahead of most driving sims. The Caterham alone is worth the price of the game. I agree about the content maybe not appealing to all and the lack of modding capability but hopefully they both develop with time?

First impression of cockpit engine sounds make me wonder whether I'm in the same game. They have been a big disappointment, compared to other sims like PC2, AC, Forza, in the cars I've tried so far, on god speakers or earplugs. Hopefully P1's or 2's sound are better. I'm wondering about the default seat placement, so close to the wheel, that only the top showed. Moving it backwards remedied it though. Are there others with similar seat issues?

I own Stockcar Extreme & AMS1 and as great as AMS2 looks I knew early-on that it wouldn't cut it for me. AMS1's car handling is the best that I've driven & I knew AMS2 with the PC2 engine would have inferior car handling. Then there is the issue of car damage which very few people talked about in their videos. And when someone did show the car damage in AMS2 I understood why. It's terrible compared to AMS1. I can't buy a PC racing-sim with a Forza damage model. Better graphics, VR & rain doesn't composate for that in my opinion.

I'm on the fence with this one still and haven't purchased it yet. The tire and physics model has me a bit worried as most people are saying it feels like PC2. I just had refresher qualifying session in AM1 with the V8 stock cars and it just feels so good (Fanatec wheel pedals). The AI is fun and dynamic. Obviously it's very close to rF2 since it uses the same physic engine (and AI?) which has aged really well. AM1 combined with rF2 offer a ton of content (and mods!) so in my opinion, when also adding PC2 and AC to the mix, it's difficult to see how AM2 adds anything extra that I can't get with the above racing sims.

Well, being an rF2 fan, I can say that AM2 bears little resemblance to PC2. It's not entirely dissimilar, but perhaps it's better to think of it as PC3 with much improved physics. It's an entirely excellent game (the UI experience is especially good)...if you like the content.

Interesting you still rate AMS 1 as superior in terms of feel to AMS 2. I have been away from sim racing for a while and I always felt I could get a bit more fidelity out of AMS 1 than 2 in terms of what I feel through the wheel. I have to give the advantage to AMS1 in terms of FFB, but not by much. I love AMS2, but even after a long session of enjoyable driving, if I immediately load AMS1 I’m reminded that the car feels more connected to me and to the road. It’s all subjective, of course, but that’s my opinion

Good video but I have to disagree with your summing up of dlc content. The season pack is MEGA expensive, but will cover all upcoming dlc's over the next couple of years I believe. This tells me that there will be a ton of paid DLC, with free content updates few and far between.... To be honest I'm still on the fence concerning the FFB. I have a Thrustmaster T300 and it's difficult to get it dialled in, in fact it feels surprisingly (or unsurprisingly) like Project Cars 2. It feels miles behind RF2, AMS and ACC in my opinion. Maybe I just need to get it dialled in better :)

still waiting on an xbox release. i bought all of their games up to this point, but i've only clocked less than 10 hours in each because bringing my wheel to the pc is a chore and i hate doing it. i LOVE the racing itself in this game but i just can't be bothered to do it all the time, so i end up not doing it at all. i'm gonna skip on the pc version of this game this time around. if it ultimately doesn't come to console, well... that's unfortunate. i'll just keep playing the ones that make it there. I'm not a "simmer" anyway, so it's not like there's a shortage of choice. specially now that acc is there.
