They got me on the education bonus but it was the clerk who screwed me over. In 1987, I tried to restart my VEAP $8100. I give them $2700 and they give me the rest. I did this in the Army but cashed out when in 1981 when I got out. I Enlisted in the Air Force in 1982 and went to restart my VEAP in 1987. The Clerk was lazy and told me that I could just give her a check in 1999 when I retire. We went back and forth for around 20 minutes until I got tired and walked out. All she had to do was give me the form. Years later, the military came out with the new Education Bill with one catch....You had to have 1 Dollar in your VEAP account to get something like 25K or 30K. I went back to the office to sign up for this. The same lady was there and said I did not qualify because I did not have 1 dollar in my VEAP account so I could only get my VEAP rate. I told her that it was her to told me to wait until I retire. She looked at me with a dumb look. In 1999 she was still there and I handed her the $2,700.00 check for 8100 in benefits. Well, in 2012 I earned my Ph.D., and am aggressively paying off my student loan. That 20K difference would have made a huge impact.

Keep your state of residency as Texas so you can be entitled to the Hazelwood act when you get out. Make copies of EVERY (and I do mean EVERY) Medical paper you get, I.e. profiles, injuries, sickcalls, everything. Make copies of all of your paperwork and keep copies for yourself before turning in anything to your command. Try to invest in a scanner so you can digitize paperwork in addition to having paper copies. Have backups of your backups and keep them as up-to date as possible. I served two tours in Iraq as a 19K (Tank Crewman) I would do it again in a heartbeat, but would definitely take my own advice if I could have a do over. The Army can be an awesome experience, but be careful around camp followers (civilians trying to attach themselves to a soldier for benefits) make sure you wrap up and don’t throw it in the trash flush it or dispose of it elsewhere (sounds weird, but I have had soldiers wind up with kids because they weren’t careful and got roped in by the wrong kind of girl. save your pay don’t be like a lot of new joes that blow their checks every 1st and 15th of the month, I would pay all my bills, car, insurance, internet with the first check then go buy a Xbox game, a book and a nice dinner in town then relax the rest of the weekend in my room. If you drink do so in moderation or stay at the barracks if you want to get wasted. I could go on, but I wish you luck and a safe tour.

I have a question and hope someone could give me some info. If anyone is National Guard and does Military Police. What is the difference between Security forces 3P0X1 and National Guard 31A or 31B? From what I read so far it sounds the same. Thinking about National Guard since the nearest airbase is over 50 miles from me. National guard base is around 20.

Looking to gain military security experience. The Airforce caught my eye due to that. I have my CCW and exposed permits in California. How ever I cant really use them due to no military experience. If I can get the POST certificate for law enforcement while Im in. That would open so many doors. I spent a crap ton of money on all my security permits the gear and keeping everything up to date. Not really ready to change career fields until I give 31B or 3P0X1 a try. Also going for better benefits and would like to move from California. Medical is hell of a lot cheaper than what I pay now.

justin flynn Didnt pass it. The book I was reading said auto or engineering was not important for the job I was going for. So in the process of looking for a tutor and have a friend that's going to help out. Asvab tutors in my area want 65 to 85 per hour and I'm not paying that.
