Enlisted with 68W 2 months ago. Went to meps without a job. I wanted to be a Cav Scout or a medic. Only infantry was available that I was interested in. Was about to enlist as 11x and 68w popped up so I took it. Excited to see where it takes me!

I commented this almost a year ago. I made it through everything. Biggest advice is get your EMT cert before you go. Also there are many books out there that are useful. You will thank yourself down the road. Course is rough, not everyone makes it

Kevin Atehortua You will skip rank to Specialist. Make more money, skip the worst part of training. It will make things a lot easier. You don't HAVE to do it, but you will thank yourself down the road.

You don't need any prior experience in your job field, in military service, or otherwise, because that's what basic training and AIT/A-school are for. But you can study up on military discipline and get in shape before you ship, and get used to waking up early. Focus on adjusting to military life and your officers and NCO's will take care of the rest.

Depends on what you want from your job. Generally speaking, Combat Medics are better in combat, Hospital Corpsmen are better in a hospital. Not to say that a Hospital Corpsman can't hold their own in a firefight, it just tends to be a more pacifistic role. Though, in both cases, there are plenty of exceptions I will say though, navy Corpsmen are some of the nicest motherfuckers I've ever met
