    Preston McDeed They should have something similar since pretty much every army that exists has combat medics. It won’t be called 68W tho. But it is possible for international students to attend 68W AIT. When I was going through I saw soldiers from Italy, Korea, UK, Poland, and Germany attending the course.

    “Back in the day” (1973 for me) the 68W MOS was 91A (then automatically upgraded to 91B after 3 or 6 months of OJT) and it was 2 1/2 months long at Fort Sam - I went on to 91C (LPN) school in 1974 (now I think it’s called 68 Charlie) - 91 Charlie (for me) school was a year long course that we started with 100 students - there only was 27 of us left standing at graduation. We had absolutely NO PT, guard duty or CQ during my time on active duty - period. Pharmacology was responsible for washing out almost half of the class - it was a killer converting minims and drams to ounces drops and ml’s. Pharmacology was a mofo - but even with average math skills - I passed and went on to graduate the course. 100% of our instructors were Vietnam veterans that had served multiple tours in the shit. After 91 Charlie school, I was assigned to an emergency room where all we had were 91 Charlie’s, a couple of RN’s and one Physician on call - and I immediately learned how to do (and then routinely did on a daily basis) - all kinds of suturing, advanced intubation and pretty much all of the stuff a PA does. PA school was my next step in career progression (if I so chose - which I didn’t and still kick myself for taking advantage of the opportunity - even now). Clearly there was absolutely no “scope of practice” back then - there were no EMT’s or Paramedics, Aaaaand there was no AIDS or COVID either. The worst that we had to deal with was the clap (gonorrhea or syphilis) or “the only thing that lasts longer than true love” - herpes. My Words of advice for all of you young heroes wanting to wear the Caduceus on your left lapel : 110% - Focus on your training 24/7 - this is an opportunity that you have that will enable you to grow AFTER your time on the military is over. Nobody can take away from you the skills and knowledge that you will be exposed to - it’s what YOU make of it that matters. If you’re going to 68W and/or going on to 68Charlie school - study study study !!! I had NO LIFE for a year while I was on school. It paid off!!! That was almost 50 years ago for me and after 3 years in the regular army, I made it to 1SG in the reserves and continued working for the VA as a nurse . Totally worth it !!! You can do it if you want it bad enough....... Good luck !!!

    It really depends on your work. If you’re a line medic yes it is unpredictable because of field time but when your not in the the field it’s the usual pt, work and off at 1700. If you’re in a clinic or hospital it’s predictable regular pt work and off every day. See patients a lot

    The worst I worked was 36 on, 12 off. We could sleep when on duty in the aid station as long as someone was awake at night. The best was working as a CLS trainer, worked 4 hours a day for 8 days and 2 days of 12 hours every two weeks. If you are in a line unit, you could be sleeping in your ambulance and working the other 18-20 hours for a month straight on field exercises. Long hours as a medic in the field are not as bad as it sounds. You have scheduled sick call hours or a schedule of what exercise is going on and just have to be available. Don't look to be slacking off and do rounds to make sure no combat engineers are playing with det cord and let command see you taking your job seriously. Then it's pretty chill.

    First step is to get 68W as your MOS. From there, once you get to your unit you can ask to go to paramedic school ( I am trying to do the same thing and I start paramedic school in a couple of weeks ) and following your graduation from that there is the opportunity to do critical care and flight medic follow-on training. From there you can go to different units that require flight medics, such as SOAR which is special operations. Long answer, but I hope it helps!

    Hey I was just wondering if you know what are my chances of getting a ranger slot In 68w AIT I have a 280 pt and 109 GT? And if having my RN affects my time as a medic at all.

  • @hunterdavis5602

    @hunterdavis5602

    It doesn’t at all. Everyone in my company that got ranger had to have a 300+ PT score and have a minimum 80% GPA. The minimum requirement for it were 90% at the 17-21 age group in each category. But you have to remember it’s the best people being sent there, so just because you make the cut, you might be out shadowed by someone with one more push-up. Do your best, study, workout, and know your craft and you’ll be fine.

    First pass 68w, then apply to get the school. It is known as an additional skill identifier, F3 or foxtrot 3, or do some of the civilian counterpart and then go the Army route. Nremt is the standard. Either basic or paramedic.

    I'm in training at fort Sam as a 68w, you would get accelerated to the next company starting the whiskey stage which is your combat medic training. You would essentially skip the emt part. You would also get promoted to specialist once you are accelerated at fort sam, so that's another nice perk youd have.

    Kev v Thanks man. I heard about ACASP, but I didn’t know how that all works. And I got my NREMT by taking classes through an ambulance service in my home state of MT which allowed me to take the national registry. The tools I used besides class is mostly reading the material and a lot of KZread videos/asking questions. KZread worked wonders though on pretty much everything.

    @@Exonist Ya that sucks. I don't know what your daily life is like but if I may offer a suggestion. Use your time to take classes now. The Army will literally pay you to take them. My buddy got washed out of his MOS and to get away from his unit he volunteered to do Soldier of the Month. Made it to post soldier of the year and got to reclass to 68V. His only motivation was to stay away from his unit for as long as possible and got reclassed as a result! Also do the EFMB if possible. That opens doors as well.
