Wish I would have had this video before my AIT. STUDY STUDY STUDY before you go. Try to get EMT certified before basic if you can. Yeah it costs money, but you will go straight to E4 and skip the worst part of ait. Again, study before you go. It will make your life a lot easier. Not everyone makes it.

Also after the medic schooling is done can you or do you take the NREM-P. So you're saying with your emt you go in as an E4? Do you also get to skip the EMT phase of AIT?ThanksRead more

@@jordanparton1993 emt doesn't count for anything other than going straight to whiskey phase. NREMT-P or RN might get you E4 but that is usually only for BSN. IMHO skipping the emt phase isn't always the best idea, because of culture shock. Whiskey phase is much more difficult than emt, going through emt phase will help you succeed. As for paramedic afterwards. You ABSOLUTELY can, in my first duty station it was encouraged once you proved that you could handle it. The best thing to do would be to speak with your first line nco after you reach your duty station.

For those interested in becoming an EMT, it does NOT cost $10,000 and is nowhere near 1 year of schooling. I'm not sure where he got his info but it's wrong. Class is 1 semester long and typically $500-$1,000. The class is typically offered at community colleges. How do I know? I am a paramedic in California and have been for 8 years.

I don’t know how it in the Army because I was a corpsman in the Navy but my first duty station after my four month Hospital Corps “A” school was the Naval Hospital at Jacksonville, Florida where I spent a year working on the Intensive Care Ward. I saw patients with any condition that can befall a human being like gunshot victims, car wrecks, massive burns, broken necks - quadriplegics -, heart attacks, strokes, broken bones, etc. The experience was priceless when I went to two years of sea duty where there was no doctor on board. I had the confidence to handle anything that came along. Working in an Army Hospital would be a positive learning experience before going into combat.

EMT school is NOT $10k, $5k, nor even $2k. Based out of NYC and paid $1200 for my EMT certification. It was 4 months long, took night classes, Mon-Thurs. Studied every night and graduated. A lot of people in my class had no idea what they were doing & graduated along side me, if you apply yourself you’ll 100% get through.

Since a lot of people are asking about NREMT/Accelerant/etc, I'll break it down for you (as far as I know). I was a A Co to F Co accelerant and graduated Mar2018. The program you want to be enlisting in (for your recruiter's information) is ACASP (www.army-portal.com/jobs/acasp.html) 1: You have to be a NREMT BEFORE you enlist. No, there isn't a way around this, and no State Issued Licenses don't count. NREMT (B/A/P) only. 2: E-4 (SPC) is automatic through the ACASP program. If you're an accelerant but didn't get SPC in BCT, don't panic - it will get rectified in AIT. 3: Acceleration if you're a NREMT is MANDATORY. You will not be given the option to go through the EMT portion. You will also void your eligibility for Honor Graduate (though you can still make Commandant's list with above a 90 GPA) 4: Make sure to go over your contract in finite detail. This program isn't well known to most recruiters or even service members prior to AIT.

I’m going for 68w and I’ve never been squeamish when it comes to blood or guts, and I should be alright under pressure. But you’re definitely right, having someone die in my arms would be traumatic. I don’t think you can ever be fully prepared to experience that.

Actually. Medics provide assistance to Army doctors in medical treatment facilities and in the field. Other typical duties are to instruct Soldiers on combat lifesaver/first responder training course and to manage Soldiers medical readiness, medical supplies and equipment.

I was wondering about the feeder opportunities after completing the 68W course. I'm former Infantry and have always had a lot of respect for Medics, or on our side of the house we call them Corpsman. Can you shed some light on what type of courses could I see in the near future or I could attend after completing the 68W AIT course.

Awesome video! One major inaccuracy... EMT-Basic school is not 11-12 months and $10,000 it's usually 10 weeks-3 months and around $700-1200. I think you meant to say Paramedic training which is 10-12 months and around 10k. Thanks for the video man, super helpful.

Been watching you throughout my process of joining and you've made it all a lot easier and clearer for me. I'm excited to put my heart and soul into being the best combat medic I can be and help people to the best of my ability. Do you have any recommended study sites I can use while I'm in AIT? Anyways again, thank you and keep it up! Much love

I wish I [we] had these resources back in '91 for 91A and later 91B school. We only had very limited access to computers (only if you were sleeping with the cadre). A lot of access to the "Meat Market" and THANK Audie Murphy lots of 'prior service' old-timers (we had four who actually served in 'Nam) who got us sooooo drunk at the "Naked Iguana". Why I didn't drown somewhere on the River Walk I'll never know. Do they still serve SOS? I can still remember those big meaty chunks, of 'something' smothering the biggest biscuits known to man in the DeFac. Good training and life-long friends. Remember once you get posted after graduation, your unit will 'test you'. Don't be scared, but do your best and for Patton's sake don't be cocky. That's for "Butter Bars" fresh from ROTC.

once in Florida I saw a kid fall off his bike into a bunch of rocks and he entire arm was ripped open. My mom just ran away but I just took off my sweater and put pressure on the wound. I really didnt know what to do I was like 12, but I'm 15 now, and I cant wait to enlist. I wanted to be a heart surgeon (because I had open heart surgery as a baby) before but I like the army better.

This is an interesting video. I've began to see what field in the military I'd like to go into, and medicine is in the top three. I was looking to see if anyone could answer if the 68w's are armed in combat or not? I know there are rules in the geneva convention that state that medics are not to be knowingly shot at, but I don't think the enemy would be caring about that too much. So what, if anything to they carry weapons wise?

HEY Arch, love the videos! I am a civilian Paramedic / Firefighter. On a Military Base, state side, how provides the Ambulance / Firefighting services on the base? If it is Military staffed do the Medics recieve additional training to bring the Ambulance service up to the ALS-Paramedic level? Keep it real and thanks for the service !

robertp7220 for majority of bases the ambulance on post is civilians. For the fact you have to the skill identifier as a paramedic to do ALS skills.

That is well said, I have been a 68W since 2003 Bco HOOAH!!! I would also suggest listen, learn pay attention. Study every night. The NREMT has a very high failure rate when people become complacent and think that it is a breeze. My company was the last company to have 250 people the next class went up to 500. These is because of failures, and with the high deployment temps a lot of medics getting out. in Short Study Study Study and don't do anything stupid.
