I went to a shelter to adopt a seven years old dog. They told me, that there are rules, I had no problem with that. First I had to visit six times, then I was told they would come by to see my house and fenced in garden. After this inspection they would decide if I could have it. After my fourth visit they gave him to somebody else. I went to another shelter, where I saw my dog. They then said, that her sister is also there and I could choose which one. My two dogs are now twekve years old and have been nothing but joy and happiness to me. Two years ago I inherited a tem year old fat cat, that has never been outside and that would not let anybody touch her. My three girls are laying with me on the sofa now and I need another pair of hands. It took time and patience, but us four girls are living in harmony, enjoying each others company inside and in the garden. My dogs went to work with me every day for ten years. Now we are retired and I wouldn't want to miss a day with them. I couldn't go to a shelter without taking one, two, three......

They are definitely NOT worse off when you leave them. As a shelter caregiver, ive seen a single 10 minute visit with a dog bring them from shaking, drooling, panting, being terrified, to wagging their tails and coming up to the kennel door to greet you. And then stay that way. All they need is this right here. Some love, affection, kindness, to have a reason to associate our presence with positivity. I work with dogs that were born from mothers that have had very little to no human contact. They dont always turn around quick but they are so much better off with these little visits. Its so fulfilling seeing them come in like that, working with them, then seeing them jump with joy during their adoption!

I could never understand how anyone could ever return a dog. When I adopted mine, I promised him a forever home, him and me until the end. He had been a stray who never had a home so the first couple of weeks he did over $1,000 in damage and I never considered for a second giving up on him. My current one is so protective of my misses when I'm away but becomes dad's lapdog when I'm home. People need to realize a pet is a lifetime commitment. They are only part of your life but you're part of their whole life. Dogs are angels with hidden wings. It totally breaks my heart to hear the ridiculous reasons why people abandon their pets. Pets feel emotions just like people and they are true family members.

Anyone that tries to put a negative spin on what you do is just projecting their ignorance. I can't think of a single species that doesn't thrive without some kind of enrichment. And that's exactly what you do, Rocky. Even zoo animals recieve enrichment from their carers, albeit not cuddles.

I love that German Shepherd, but I am in Georgia. There are so many beautiful shepherds there. My first shepherd, I found wandering on the golf course when I was 16 years old. I worked there for three years before I went away to college, and my dad took care of her when I left. She was snow white and was a wonderful dog and family member. I love your channel, you do God's work for all those wonderful dogs.

Rocky... What you are doing is incredible... I too grew up with German Shepherds... Super smart, but two big issues... Fear aggression and separation anxiety... This breed is way closer to wolves than people realize... this is a breed that is a pack animal... it does way better when it knows its place in the pack... This is a breed that is super smart and will test the rules constantly...They love kids like it's their own... And this is also a breed that will love on you when it knows you're sad... and it will put its own life on the line when you are in danger... best breed ever

Rocky, you are absolutely right. Im a social worker and I assure you it's true. Your blood pressure goes down...your breathing slows down, your mind begins to clear. There is a beautiful connection between people and their pets. We talk with them because it's unconditional love...a sympathetic ear. This is why I highly recommend people who have depression, elderly and lonely....get a pet. The therapeutic benefits are too many to mention. Yes, sitting with dogs...for me there's a beauty here to just sit, relax and listen to their stories. Blessings ❤🐕😽

Regarding the return puppy! They need to make people take an intelligence test before they let them adopt a dog! A puppy needs to be trained dummies! When I was in college, my husband and I got a puppy. It was great because it gave us a distraction from the stress of college life, but since we didn’t have much money and couldn’t go out a lot, we spent hours after hours training that dog! It was such fun seeing that little pup, learn new tricks and your behaviors, and grow into a beautiful wonderful, long-term pet! That’s one question it seems to me that needs to be asked before anyone adopt a puppy are you willing to take the time to train the puppy to develop socialization skills and good behavioral skills if they are not they don’t need the puppy the puppy does not need the stress of being returned over and over again! Please when you’re talking to people about adopting dogs, would you please stress the dogs need to be trained that it’s not automatic that they’re is good behavior in like a couple thinking about adopting a dog, but they don’t want one that will jump on the elderly parents, then train a dog not to jump on the elderly parents. What is wrong with people! Please please please stress this more in your videos.
