Veteran Can’t LOVE New DOG, What Happens Next Is Shocking
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Dogs offer veterans something humans can’t: an unbreakable, unconditional bond that is inherently free of judgment. Studies also suggest that human-animal relationships reduce stress, fear, anxiety, and even cardiovascular disease. In particular, for veterans with PTSD, a relationship with a therapy or emotional support dog can help alleviate symptoms, and even reduce the severity and frequency of flashbacks.

A variety of programs now available around the country for returning military veterans and their dogs. In these programs, veterans are paired with rescue dogs who have been carefully selected for their temperament, interest in humans, and ability to pick up on important training. After assessment and preparation with one of the many nonprofits that train military veteran companion dogs, these rescue pups are paired with vets seeking emotional support and therapy dogs.
Without appropriate resources and treatment for returning veterans, many will suffer, often in silence. But there is one overlooked resource that few veterans know about.
In the United States, 400,000 dogs are euthanized each year, primarily due to shelter overcrowding. Many of the shelters forced to euthanize their dogs partner with these non-profit organizations to pair vets with specially trained and ‘vetted’ dogs. With hundreds of thousands of dogs flooding local shelters and rescues each year, there are so many opportunities for returning veterans to find a dog that fits their needs; but first, they need to know about this important community resource.

Am a disabled vet. Didn’t need a dog but wanted a dog that needed me. Adopted a 10 yr old half blind half deaf westiepoo. She also has hip displaysia and arthritis. Gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Love my Miss Molly.
My brother in law was a veteran. he suffered from horrible PTSD. The only thing that saved him was first his cat Turtle, then he adopted a specially trainer service dog. Odin. Unortunately my brother in law is no longer with us, but hopefully others will be helped by Jackson's story....

PTSD doesn't just affect veterans. Survivors of abusive childhoods & relationships suffer from PTSD as well. This portrait of the vet & dog is reflective of my cat to me. She recognizes an instance of a traumatic nightmare or a panic attack. She comes to me for hugs & pets. Jackson can't heal the vet's PTSD, but can assist in being able to survive, & continue to live. To all those with PTSD, my prayers are with you. We are the warriors with scars that are not seen. We can get beyond it. We can support one another. We will live ADOPT, DON'T SHOP. As a Marine Corps veteran, it's nice to know such programs exist. I am thankful for my four legged angel every day😊
This was a good video showing that you shouldn't try to judge a dog. A dog can help you more than you think.
My dad was a WWII vet, a Marine. I can’t begin to imagine how much he could’ve benefited from a canine friend from the ranks. In those days, however, they didn’t have much in the way of Soldier dogs. This story was a real tear jerker. God bless our soldier protectors, human and canine.

I am also a VETERAN and suffer from PTSD as well. Fortunately, I have had dogs pretty much all my life, I know how much help a dog can be and what they do for people. The more we can get dogs into the hands of veterans who can benefit, the better it can be. Dogs are great listeners, and they do not judge us, and they are there when we need a shoulder. The two dogs I have are right there when I get home from shopping or any other errands I have and these two are always happy to see me. Let's get more dogs into the hands of VETERANS that need someone to be there with them and to help.

Not a veteran, but suffer PTSD. Lost my Sammy Dog 5 days before Christmas 2019. Still not ready to get another dog, but when I am, it will be a rescue pup. Sammy was a rescue, and he was the best boy ever. Everyone loved him, and he knew when I was down. He was a 30kg lab x shepherd, but thought he was a chihuahua. I miss him every single day, but so grateful for the privilege of being his mum, and having him in my life for 9 years. Tha nk you to all service folk for their sacrifices, and may this bring you some solace.

Hi I'm from Australia - we have a vet here (on TV) called Dr. Harry. He once said that the greatest respect you can show your dog when he/she passes, is to go out and get another dog straight away because you are telling them that you can't live another day without the company that a dog provides. ♥️🐕
@traceypotter7669

@jillm9801 I couldn't. For many reasons, and am still unable to. And also, everyone is different. My mum and dad got a new dog just after their Harry passed. And it was the best decision they could have made. My physical health isn't playing fair, so couldn't take pooch out, so it wouldn't be fair.

I am a vet. Armor 12 years SFC Armor Master Gunner. I thought moving on, meaning getting some education, three masters degrees and a new job would be enough, but it wasn't. I still remember what happened. I love my dogs, my wife apperently thinks I need six dogs, a cat and a house sparrow. All rescues. Eastern Eroupean Shepard, Bostin Terrier, and four chihuahuas. I am still here and a functional happy man. So, I have nothing to say beyond, damn they are needy, and I like it. It is what I need. The house sparrow was found on the side walk, eyes not even open. I think when we retire we are going to do shelter stuff from an RV, moving to places of need to other places of need. Rocky, have you ever placed an Eastern Eroupean Shepard. Not like I am talking about my Odin 140 lbs of love, but are they hard to place. I have heard that they don't do well. That makes me sad, as they love so intensely. Your thoughts?
A year later, I'm hoping Bingo has been living in a loving home ! 🧡

A friend of mine has had PTSD since serving in Vietnam half a lifetime ago. He has always had wonderful dogs since who would wake him during nightmares. Even though he still has triggering episodes like being in large crowds these dogs have improved his life by always being there for him.

I am a Volunteer Director of PTSD Project UK . We have a Veterans In Crisis Line for veterans in the UK.
My dog who was my service dog he is now in retirement is a rescue he helped me so much and he went through so many hard times with me and helped me through all of them I can't imagine going through them without him there for me. What I'm trying to say is even though he is a rescue with unknown origins he is still a very good boy so never count out a shelter dog sometimes they can be the best good pups and I feel that they may be able to help the most with emotional pains because they may have gone through emotional pain just like you.
I was so invested in this that I was sad when it ended...if this was a series I'd pay good money to watch it 😭😭😭 it hit a soft spot in my heart
I'm a veteran and I have PTSD, and I would rather have a dog than another person, But both is even better. It breaks my heart seeing this dude treat a dog that just wants to be loved and have a forever home like shit.

Every dog needs an home and loving Family
My late husbandxwas a Vietnam vet or a US Marine. Having a dog that connects to a vet is a life changer. It worked for husband/best friend.
There's nothing more true. But with anyone. My dog helps me get through stress and and anxiety when I need her and I'm there for her during those scary thunderstorms and fireworks
Not only veterans but people with mental health illnesses in general. I have serious panic and anxiety attacks that on multiple occasions were so bad I thought I was having a heart attack and couldn't breath but my dog who isn't even trained will de-escalate the situation for me and reacts to them naturally in the same same way a lot of trained dogs would. She's a special girl.
I use to have a police dog when I was 5 he was the best,.. but unfortunately died of cancer r.i.p little boi, Rest In Peace saber..
Just saw this now. Did she get adopted? I hope she has her forever family now. What a beautiful, sweet dog!
This truly had me in tears. Were so blessed for our Veterans. Never being in the service makes it so I can't possibly understand the price they pay protecting our country and us. I truly am thankfull and pray for their well-being. We're so lucky for our Hero's.
We truely don’t understand what our guys who served are going through. I wish there were more support and help for these amazing people who serve. THANK YOU 🙏🏻 The Service Dogs are amazing I am so thankful that these precious dogs will be given a chance to give support to those who have served and given so much for their country
Way to go Rocky and people in this clip. You hit it out of the park.😢❤❤❤❤❤
I was crying because Jack's backstory reminded me of my dog that died a month ago he almost made it's to 9 years it was hard seeing him pass away he been with me since I was about to turn a year old he was like a brother to me
I finally talked my dad into letting me adopt another dog. My hopes is to be able to train it for service work. Picking a shelter dog is going to be more work than getting from a breeder to train from a puppy but I'm willing to put in the work. Thanks rocky for this video. I'm not a veteran but i know what its like to lose a working dog and for another to help heal. I have extreme anxiety. Noises and crowds make me disassociate and sometimes have an anxiety attack. I know exactly what this dog did as mine did it for me. The dog was circling him and trying to alert him to focus on him and a dog will sometimes perform deep pressure therapy for someone with PTSD or anxiety so it calms the heartrate.

I’m planning to do the same. I wanna train my own service dog for myself with my anxiety disorder and ptsd issues. And also would rather go to a shelter. There’s too many that need and deserve wonderful homes. I kno u mentioned it might be more work than getting a puppy from a breeder. But I don’t think that’s the difficulty ur set to be given. Just remember..shelters also have tons of puppies also that need to be adopted, trained, and loved..❤ Good luck to you on the training😊
All dogs can be loved, that’s what they are, pure love and trust 100% unlike most people 👍
What a story! I appreciate it so much. My brother did two tours of duty in Vietnam, and came back very different. Animals can give a Veteran hope!
Loved this. All my animals (I have 3 dogs, 2 chinchillas, a hedgehog, 2 box turtles and 8 sugar gliders) help me deal with the pain, anxiety, depression and loneliness that comes with the multiple autoimmune conditions I have. But I have one extra special dog. My St Bernard Bastian has separation anxiety and is my shadow. He doesn’t like to be out of my sight and prefers to always have a paw on me. He is very in tune with my emotions and is always in my face giving kisses and trying to distract me and get me to cuddle and pet him as soon as my anxiety level starts to rise or when I get sad. So we like to say that he is my emotional support dog but I am his emotional support human b/c he gets anxiety any time we are apart.
My uncle is currently in the military and this reminds me so much of him and his dog it just made me emotional and I kinda cried a lotta bit 😂
Great Video. I have a dog just after I got out of the US NAVY in 1969 and I was not in a War Zone but was in during Vietnam era. I had my first dog for 13 yrs and after she passed I got another dog same breed and she live to be almost 16. After that I got a rescued cockatiel and he is 25 yrs old now. If it was not for him (he can no longer fly) I would have killed my self after having lost both parents in 2003 and 2004.(both were in their 80's and had terminal cancer). So my pet bird is keeping me alive right now along with some medication. I wish I could get a dog but I use a walker and I get tired easily and I am almost 76 yrs old (next month). I admire people who train dogs for veterans who have pts and also help them find the right dog. I still love animals and always will. God Bless you Rocky and your family and Crew for you video's I hope that dog in the video got adopted as I am in the San Fernando Valley (next) valley over from San Gabriel Valley.
That dog is a very good actor! She should get a contract with a big Hollywood studio no problem!
Say, these little dramas are getting a bit more polished! Well done to the cast and crew - especially the editor and director - for an absorbing and informative little piece. You hit all the right beats, and it was painful (in the right way) to watch as the rawness of the emotions came through. I hope Bingo gets a fabulous forever home, and may this project help many dogs and people!
I love this I had a German shepherd he died of cancer this is a lovely story
This video brings me to tears because i lost my lab vinel mix murphy he was 13 years old on january 15th of 2020 and it was sad to see him go because murphy he was special in my because i have had him ever since i was baby when i first came home form the hostpital he was mine and my family most beloved dog. please this is what helps bring back memories of him.

I was out for 30+ years. I'd always known of seeing eye dogs n search and rescue dogs. I hadn't plugged into the VA in all those years. When I was homeless I was put in touch with a veteran based shelter they plugged me with the VA. On doing so I met a sandbox vet who had a PTSD dog. I never knew such a thing existed. The VA recommended a service dog for me. Boo was an amazing dog and became my path to sanity. As life happens Boo got old and in so much pain I had to have him euthanized. As chance would have it a man I know is a retired marine with Rottweilers. Annie is a pup from his dogs. She's still training but is so smart and attentive. I'll never find another Boo. But Annie got to spend some time with Boo and she does do things that I believe he taught her. So in a way Boo is still Here. Now I help train dogs for vets n first responders. If not for Boo I'd still be waking up in the middle of the night destroying things and fighting tooth n nail with my camp chair. It's amazing how a dog can reach where nobody else can.
When he hug his dog i just really wanted to hug my cat♥︎

The ending is the best! I love that he finally came to his sense and came to love the dog and told his wife how he feels and the thing keeping him from her. But it's honesly super scacry and hard tp see that happened. Because the thing you make with a dog or any pet is a bond forever. Like I have it with one of my fathers dog after he passed away. He was a golden retirever and a super loving dog, every time I would walk into the house of my grandma he would wine and cry but that's how he greats me. I was always every dogs favorite becasue I made a bond with them and never forgot it and I do that to all the animals I meet. Always a fine line of don't disrespect me and I will alway be therefor you and forever.
Very inspiring story. Thank you. Have a blessed day to you and family🤗💖
I totally understand that being a veteran can cause problems in a relationship however she should have left him if he kept acting like that. My older brothers are vets and my father in law was a marine so I get that it’s hard. People who say the word “mutt” or “street dog” don’t get attention to me. I’ve been blessed with both a wonderful service dog who was an expensive breed and when she passed I had rescued dog given to me by my husband. We just adopted a new rescue dog who was severely abused. The worst part was my husband and I know this person be and is close to our family.
