    The classic Iron Chef references are a little more “in your face” for this video. Also, my eyes deceived me, I did not get a million points in sky blaster. Thank you Dr. Emerald Nova for hosting the contest and eating a bell pepper on camera in the New Mexico wilderness. Correction: Cafe-alpha did not make the original Psuedo Saturn, they made Psuedo Saturn Kai - its “full” and “lite” versions. Also, the FirePro translation wasn’t exactly a team, nearly all of it is Malenko’s work.

    I can't believe the Saturn scene is this vibrant nowadays. It feels like I blinked, and there was suddenly a legion of amazing people willing to part and parcel the console's "difficult to develop for" architecture for months on end and a supportive community stopping at nothing to promote them. The Saturn community has come so far. It's still hard to for me to believe that I was part of the last generation of people who had to play Sakura Wars in Japanese.

    Maybe you should create a new mini-video with you interviewing the developers of these new techniques to create MAXIMUM draw distance for these machines. Ask them what is the trick and why developers couldn't do it in the late 90s in games like Gex 3D, Turok and many others.

    Was great to see a 3DO homebrew development mentioned in the video! Our devs are currently working on making development better. Recently got pre-standard C++ working, which helps lure in people not familiar with C. Plus, the 3DO OS source code just got released, and our devs will be working on reducing overhead in the OS for homebrew titles. XProger has def been a huge hand in some more recent interest in the system, including peaking interest in 2 of the Saturn irons devs who have joined our discord to keep up with 3do developments and news. I've never heard of anything close to besides translating a game, dub it and specially making it professionally. The Saturn deserves this love and the people behind these projects, the recognition. I also remember creating a thread on the Saturn Extreme or Sega Extreme forums (can't remember) about a possible Grandia English translation, probably around 2015 and it was basically just a chat. We have that now, but the Lunar games, Gungriffon and even Riglord Saga II can receive it in the future. If one day I see Mahou Gakuen Lunar and the two Advanced World War games translated, then, it will be just unbelievable. You mentioned Omakaze! Savers and there's another girly game I'd like seeing translated one day, it's Eiyuu Shigan - Gal Act Heroism, a JRPG, though, currently I can't offer 100USD.

    I just had a skim through the timestamps, and it looks like a very impressive line-up this year. Saturn dev really is going from strength to strength! A big thanks, both to the creators of the new titles, as well as to the translators of the never localised Japanese games (which feel like brand new Saturn games to me). I would like to say that I will be able to contribute to next year's competition, as I've always loved the Saturn, but I'm afraid I'm going to be too busy with Mega Drive stuff in 2022. Maybe 2023 :) I look forward to watching the whole video with my breakfast and coffee tomorrow(Sunday) morning.

    Fun Fact on your Fun Fact: Dave put out the call when i happened to be awake early one day to catch a shiro show. That caused me to play with the files, speak with Knight0fDragon, and get something "playable" within a week or so. This (DeathMask) will probably be one of the few times i'll lay claim to my old Shiro status just to be able to say that this was technically a Shiro Production. Shadowmask joined after the PoC came out, and did a LOT of work on the audio editing side of things, improving flow, and even getting the english voice actress.

    How amazing is it that many of these original homebrew games are of better quality than actual published Saturn games that were released during its supported retail life? Seriously, Cubecat and Hellslave would have had the gaming mags of the day raving over them. The visual novel games also look super creative and interesting.

    1:10:30 IDK if this was part of a recent software update, but TIL that you can literally undergo the whole process on a Satiator. I used the application to convert a .BKR Mednafen Sakura Wars save to .SDM using SaveRepack, and from there, if you boot PseudoSaturn with a Satiator, you can convert it to a readable file by importing from the CD-ROM category. My Saturn didn't have a CD-ROM, and I've never flashed anything in my life. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how these technologies managed to work in tandem.

I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff and it would be nice to own bulk slash again since I traded mine for some Dreamcast games since in going for a complete NA collection (only 3 left 😆) I'm happy to see people are still supporting the Saturn after all these years and your videos make me purchase more of them at my local retro game store down the street "curse you for killing my wallet" Finally when are you going to create the Craig the walres "think you can get yours in mine?" There are a variety of people who sell repro boxes online. Though I would discourage you from buying repros that include pre-patched images on the disc for a couple of reasons: The patchers do not condone them since they could get them in trouble for piracy legal matters. Those are also bad for the buyer, since they may not be getting the most up-to-date patch with bug fixes, etc. You would also not be able to re-patch those discs if a new update comes out later. I know SaturnDave used to sell a bunch of great North American mockup boxes of these English translation projects, though he's been unable to print and sell en masse due to various real life responsibilities. As the demand from patchers to not sell pre-patched discs increases, there will likely be more people selling just boxes in the near future. I don't know who though. Some sell repros with disc art, but leave them blank for the buyer to burn later.

  • @signorpaldoni

    @signorpaldoni

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@ENiceGeo There is a reason for that. PC was not popular at all in Japan during the 90s (especially early 90s). Japanese had their home computers which got a lot of great ports of PC games but there was still a lot of people outside that market that were interested in playing those games but didn't have a home computer. Enter 3DO, Saturn and Playstation which became the perfect platforms for those ports. One of the ports that to this day I wonder why was never officially translated is Beavis and Butthead in Virtual Stupidity for the PSX. It is an incredibly good graphic adventure, released in a timeframe where the West would have bought ANYTHING B&B related yet the executives at Viacom didn't see fit to bring it over here. We still have the PC version but it is a mess to setup (win 95 exclusive, ugh) compared to the simplicity of putting a disc in your psx. Another reason why I'm into these ports is precisely that, since usually it's not to easy to launch old games on modern PCs and these console versions are a great way to easily play these titles.

    That tomb raider person could be making some serious enhanced port of Tomb Raider for Saturn and is trying to tease it by acting like a mad man who speaks in riddles. At least, that's what I hope. Seems like it's just a few asset changes from my laywoman's eyes.

    1:07:53 You need to stop assuming a "Japanese speaker" has the ability to read Japanese. Being able to speak all the Japanese in the world (like a third generation Japanese American) will not help you with the text menus of Fire Pro Wrestling S if you never learned to read any Japanese. You should use the term "Japanese literate" instead and also to what degree, because the Mickey Mouse/Donald Duck games are written in all hiragana so a grade school level of proficiency is sufficient, while a Nobunaga's Ambition require a minimum of high school level proficiency to read the text. It's no different from an illiterate English speaker who won't be able to navigate the menus of the latest Madden NFL game without being able to read English.
