I love Home Free's version of this beautiful song. They really brought out the emotion of it. Tim's lead is amazing with his deep bass. Also love Rob & Chance's solos plus the great harmonies. And Adam is tasteful in making the simple sound of pounding his chest & thigh. I believe we can change our course in life. We don't have to make the same mistakes as our parents. We can choose to rise above it.

I was talking with my adult daughter yesterday about something we had both experienced recently and, during that conversation, I made a statement about making a conscious decision to remove parts of how I was raised because they did so much harm to me. And, she both acknowledged that I had been successful and reiterated that she was aware that she would not make a good parent hence her decision to never have children. So, yes, you can make changes to ‘break the cycle’.

After I heard this one for the first time, it had to stay on repeat for a while. As I’ve grown older, it has become more apparent that almost everyone is screwed up in one way or the other.

Every time I hear Home Free sing this beautiful song, it breaks me…. especially the words in the chorus. Tim and Rob and Chance are perfection in this one. You can tell the song touches them. The resonance in Tim’s voice takes my breath away sometimes. He sounds so bittersweet.🐝❤️🤗

Isn't this just stunning? I've been a harmony fan forever and that's what got me started on this acapella roller coaster. Out of all the pieces HF has done this is still my favorite. Deep thoughts as well as outstanding voices. I'm glad you finally found a place for it. If you ever hear from Tim you tell him I'll cook him some fried chicken and grits if he'll sing like this to me! As for the message, yes some baggage you can drop on the platform and take another train. You don't have to live the way you were brought up, or continue behaving as you always have. But it doesn't take much to bring back the feelings and reactions you thought you left behind. It's always a job to be the person you want to be.

I started to watch this at work today, then I could tell the water works would start if I continued. So had to wait until just now, when I could finally be alone, This was beautiful, very needed and hopefully will help me begin to deal with my own parental issues and feelings of inadequacy that I fight on a daily basis. Thank you to whoever requested this song and to you for doing it Nick!

We've all been there Nick....I see myself doing a lot of the things my parents did, and not sure if I can control it....I see my Dad is my actions all the time...and my Dad and I were not really close - he loved me and I could always count on him if needed, but we just never connected as people....he connected more with my wife than with me, he always brought her presents and if he bought my mom flowers or a cake or anything he always did the same for her, and he might even not say hello to me unless I said it 1st....he didn't hug me but a few times in my life, and his constant putdowns hurt me a lot inside even though I would laugh with everyone else on the outside, It's very hard to admit, that when he passed away, I didn't even shed a tear....I did get a moment the day before he passed to clear the air and even though he couldn't talk I told him I didn't understand why he hated me, but that all the hurt he caused was forgiven. And I kissed him on his cheek....he looked at me and he was a bit shocked and he understood I think finally that his actions had hurt me for many, many years but in the end I still loved him.. He passed on Oct 21st, 1999 at Baptist Hospital here in Miami.

I kinda had the same with my dad. I know I'm super late, but here's a hug. My dad died holding my hand when I was 24. He couldn't talk his last couple days either. He believed I was brain washed, entitled good for nothing and had many things to say about my clothes. He always spent time with my sister and brother and I had to beg for him to spend time with me on my 18th bday. It's all I wanted. I was a daddy's girl and my daddy told me to my face he never wanted kids. I told him I forgive him and sang to him as he passed. Then I had to go back to being a rock because everyone else feel apart. Here's another hug for the road. You are loved. It'll wash out.😔

I think everyone can relate to at least some part of this beautiful song 🎵. I've probably heard this at least 50 times and I still tear up over at least some part of these lyrics. This is one of Home Free's most impactful songs. It hit me hard too! And I've listened to it well over 100 times. And it still opens my mind to the questions asked within the lyrics. How much do we inherit from our family? What kind of person am I and am I ok with it? And if I'm not ok with it, how much can I control in changing the things I don't like? And that's not even touching on how beautifully the guys sang the song. Another case of less is more. No complicated backdrops, no super high or low notes, very basic beatboxing from Adam. Just an eye opening feeling that makes a person question who we are and why we are that way. ❤

I doubt there are many people who would not relate to this in some way or another. I saw that it affected you deeply, and I can relate. This song was well written by John, and performed with perfection by Home Free. It's a grower, the more you listen the more you get out of it imo. I listened to the original as well & both are wonderful but HF has the edge(of course). I listened to this one a lot last August/September when I was in a rehab facility for my broken ankle. I had just sent a message to all my cousins, some of them leaving nearby, that I felt down and lonely. I got lots of "get well soon" replies. But out of sixteen cousins, only one came to visit. One. I can still cry when I think about. So for me, no, it's definitely not in the blood. My dad, sister and now two cousins (who has since apologized) are all the blood relatives I need.

You know, I have watched so many, many reactors do this incredible song and most of the men especially it hits hard. I know so many of us, women too, grow up in families that this really touches something deep inside. My son I remember was so worried about becoming like his father or grandfather who were not faithful at all. He thought he could be like them. I told him it was a choice they made, he did not inherit that. And he has been faithful in his marriage for 20 years. But so many of us didn't have good parenting or other family dynamics. This song really makes us think about that. Does another broken home become another broken family? Wow! It's not what any of us want. The guys really killed this song and did it their way which was perfect!!! You take care friend.
