I love Home Free's version of this beautiful song. It was originally done by John Mayer. They really brought out the emotion of it. Tim's lead is amazing with his deep bass. Also love Rob & Chance's solos plus the great harmonies. And Adam is tasteful in making the simple sound of pounding his chest & thigh. I believe we can change our course in life. We don't have to make the same mistakes as our parents. We can choose to rise above it.

Beautiful song by John Mayer. So much deep meaning in this text. John Mayer is a master of lyricism. I think this version is even better than the original. The arrangement, vocals and exquisite harmonies of Home Free were spot on. When Tim kicks in with his fantastic voice, all sorts of little goose feet run over my body. And I really appreciate Adam's simple heartbeat rhythm, the recording is so beautiful. Great reaction!

Johnnie, I really like you! Between the song and your sermonizing you preached my life. At 23 (with a 19 yr. old wife) I became a Christian. The first great dealing I experienced was forgiving an abusive step-father and a neglectful mother. I ended up leading both to Christ and he became my closest friend for the last 10 yrs. of his life. That 19 yr.old girl and I have been married 48 yrs. I am eternally grateful!!

Thank you Johnnie for your voice of clarity and wisdom. I too come from a somewhat "broken past". Like yourself, I have overcome through forgiveness and constant work on myself. I've always believed that blaming one's history for one's shortcomings is selling yourself short. It's like saying your history dictates your future. You are a true clarion voice in a world filled with murmuring. Thank you.

The mistakes our families' made should not handicap us forever 💔 -- we are to put away childish things. Anger and resentment only hurts you; the other person is not responsible for what you are feeling. Forgiveness and peace on your part doesn't excuse what happened. It's a bridge to keep that from happening to someone else. Joy is free!!

You are so aware of what is happening around you and bringing up good points and truth, the reason you need to forgive others is not for them, it is for you, so you can move on, if you never open your heart no one can come into your heart. No child has a choice of what family they are born into but you do have a choice of the family you make for yourself. Stop letting the world tell you that you are a victim, thousands have been on the same path as you but they make different choices and there are so many people who will help along the way. There are two types of humans those with good intentions and those with bad intentions. Surround yourself with those with good intentions.

To forgive others is to release your soul from bitterness and lets you see the world in a positive light. Bitterness rots the soul and destroys the ability to be truly happy. Grandma was a wise woman. Thank you for the reminder.

I cannot tell you how many times I have said that my mother did the best she could with what she had to work with. Mental illness doesn't run in my family... it gallops. We had milk because we kept goats. We had eggs because we kept chickens. We had meat because we raised rabbits and caught the occasional squirrel. Our mother was one of the meanest women, yet a Baptist Bible thumper. A very confusing bunch of mixed messages. You are such a lovely young man. You always bring a smile to my face. There is nothing we cannot overcome if we strive to do so. There are always roadblocks, but getting past them is a character building experience. I have had many deeply sad moments. But out of all the bad, came so much good that I could not have ever predicted. Trust. Just trust. And keep on treading water. And by all means, stick around to see how your life ends. I have known too many people who just simply could not see any light. My mother did one thing for me --- she shared her love of Jesus. That is her redeeming grace. And it has been grace to me.

Divorce your past and embrace your future. LOVE THAT!! So true, the anger, resentment, etc. we hold against others, just hurts us. Those people we are angry at likely will never know the depth of the those emotions that we have for them. We are just tearing ourselves up inside. Let Go and Let God. Such wisdom for someone so young. Thanks for sharing those pieces of wisdom with your audience.

It’s a remake of the John Mayer song. I like Home Free’s version better. Love the lyrics and they ring true don’t they? You don’t have to become like your parents (if they’re toxic). You can fight against it although it’s hard to do but people do it all the time. You turned to Jesus and found forgiveness and it’s brought you happiness. I found Jesus too. I pray your brother will find forgiveness in his heart before it’s too late. It’s easy to blame someone els for your problems but we’re all accountable for ourselves. God bless you. Home Free did another good song. 😀
