Maybe this diverter works differently, but the one on the Mini Cooper S opens when there is no boost to improve efficiency and shuts under boost.

Stuart Marshall that’s basically the same - it’s driven by vacuum so it opens when you lift off the gas.

I’m working on a similar project for my 8.. I’ve built a renesis with some CNC porting on the intake and exhaust and a bunch of other mods and I want to charge it with an m90 from a gm.. it seems the gm m90’s are a bit longer.. I’m wondering if I should sell it to get a ford one, or should I get creative with the mounting/routing.. I will be running the charged air through an intercooler as well, so I’ll have quite the pipe dream haha

#RideLife the snouts are generally interchangeable on the jag units buts can’t comment on ford / GM packages. Good luck :)

StuffAboutStuff thanks for your feedback!! How’s your build coming along?

Hey. Have you looked into other donor cars for the supercharger? I know Mercedes runs a bunch of them. Why did you choose this specific one. And also why m90 vs m62/m112. Thanks!

Domas64 I have - the m90 is the perfect combination of depth and flow. Depth is an issue in the rx8 bay because the engine is mounted so far back. The m60 just doesn’t have enough flow the renesis engine which has massive lungs to fill. M112 body is too deep - this is what I wanted to use. M90 with the shortest snout might fit. Still not sure if I’ll need to get the angle grinder out. Even the m90 will need to run at 17000rpm! That’s fast for this little blower.... I looked at a lot of other options but they were either too big or too expensive. This one is still available to buy new from Jaguar and that is a key concern. I’d like to make either the custom parts or a full kit available in the future so the option of a new one, or readily available cheap second hand ones puts the project into a much lower price point than it’s competitors. So it has a USP of cheap in a market of cheap motors.

Ok thanks, good info. How do you know about 17k rpm? I saw info the Lysholm SC that Pettit kit uses is 1.7 liters, and M90 translates to ~1.5liters. So probably even smaller one is a bad idea. Do you know maybe if all m90 SC have the same dimensions? Just maybe different intake/exhaust and drive shaft length? Doubt I can find Jaguar one here in Lithuania. Plenty of mercedes though :) What are you going to grind? The intake tube or firewall?

Domas64 I calculated the rpm based on the pulley sizes - my m90 has a performance pulley fitted. Flow rate will be equivalent to Pettit Lysolm kit, but it will be out of spec (running fast) so maybe not quite as much power as lysolm. I’ll be grinding the firewall if I grind anything. I’ll make a custom air inlet port as shallow as common sense allows then may need to grind the firewall to prevent knocking, or even just to make it fit. Still not sure if it will!!!

There are a number of snout sizes, you’d need the shortest one, for certain. Not all m90’s are the same! They have “partners” who manufacture their m90 core into a package for the car manufacturer so there may be a lot of variants out there. I’m using a jag xkr6 one which should be readily available in the uk, but we’ll have to see.

how is the build going? also with fitting the m90 are you having to change any of the other parts of the engine?

Paranoid Androidz rubbish at the moment :-/ It’s all on ice. I’ll need to change the air intake manifold (probably to a custom manifold) but the stock injectors and ECU are (I’m assured) good for around 300bhp. So alongside this I’ll have to work in a charge cooler and an intercooler but apart from that and a remap it’s fairly simple !!! Ha - simple compared to....a 3 rotor!!

@@StuffAboutStufflol yeah and a hell of a lot cheaper lol. thought id ask because since I got rid of my 2004 230 bhp rx8 ive always wanted another one but I was only getting 200 miles out of a tank which was was killing my wallet and been looking at getting another one but doing an engine swap just to try and get some better economy but there was a video I saw last night which was showing how some of the things they are doing with skyactive x engine that mazda are making could be used with the wankel and it got me thinking about going out and buying another one and doing a supercharger conversion which is why I was hoping you might have had chance to complete your project so I could rack your brains about what mpg you might be getting out of it after the remapping and conversion. I would have considered doing a turbo conversion for it but after watching some of the videos on here I soon learnt theres a lot more that needs changing when it comes to fitting a turbo other then reworking exhaust and intake manifolds and running oil lines and cooler + remapping..
