She wanted to reveal herself so badly from the beginning but wasn#t able to do so becasue of several reasons. She suffered in silence a whole year because of this but never gave up. This proves that she really loves him and that she is the right one for Rudy. Rudy really deserved to be happy again after all that shit that was brought upon him in the last episode of Season 1 and the first Episodes in Season two before he arrived at the Academy. I think if he meets Eris again they will have a lot to talk about and Eris need to apologize to him.

    It all makes sense now. Rudeus's ED was caused by mental trauma associated with his first time. Immidietly after he got laid, Eris completely ghosted him, causing him heavy turmoil and as such sexual encounters had negative connotations to him. It was only after night spent together with Sylphy and her still being there, Rudy could once again stand firm.

    Yeah I mean, Rudy is basically a dude who suffered extreme physical and psychological abuse as a teenager, spent the next 20 years building up huge walls of emotional detachment and degenerate behavior, died, and then spent like 10 more years of his new childhood slowly trying to break down the walls he put up. And the first time he ever lets himself be emotionally vulnerable again he (from his perspective) gets punished for it. Thus, depression spiral (and the ED as a fear response). We've seen it all season that the thing that keeps pulling him out it is people showing they won't abandon him. Counter Arrow refuses to abandon him on an adventure, he gets a little better. Sara gets freaked out by the ED and runs away, he gets worse. Soldat refuses to give up on him or walk away, he gets a little better. And finally Sylphie doesn't freak out, refuses to abandon him, and most importantly she comes back; and finally he can let go of the fear at let himself heal.

    I fell in love with mushoku tensei because its core concepts of loneliness, insecurity and feeling like an outsider are so relatable. Rudeus' redemption story is so skillfully made, and avoids many common tropes that anime makers like to put in to make fun of the situation. It's like.... introverts being taken seriously. That's just so rare.

  • @rahn45
    @rahn459 ай бұрын

    Mushoku Tensei is interesting in how being "OP" didn't instantly grant self-esteem, and how the process of gaining confidence feels natural with the constant self-doubt and sliding back to old habits. It's balance that's not often seen in other stories, in where the protagonist either instantly gains unwavering conviction, or remains oblivious for far too long.

  • @adamgerald849

    @adamgerald849

    3 ай бұрын

    Yeah its great though difficult to watch him fail so much but makes the payoff 10x better when something good finally happens to him. It's refreshing to have an OP Isekai with mature and flushed out writing. And as for his lack of confidence, you're right it's mostly due to his previous life, but in the beginning of the LN he specifically says he won't allow himself to get a big head over his abilities. He says when he was a kid that his ego as a child is what originally brought the bullies down on him and had already started pushing people away even before he was tied up naked at school. He spent all of his life re-thinking his choices even before he died, so he knows what not to do a lot of the times, but that doesn't tell him the right thing to do either.

    absolutely beautifully written characters. One of the things I like most about Mushoku Tensei is that the characters aren't perfect, have flaws, sometimes really bad flaws. But they know it and are trying to become better people in their eyes, they act like real human beings. The detail is so fine and doesn't gloss over any of the ugly parts of humanity, where most stories do little to touch on those things Mushoku Tensei embraces it. Thanks as usual for your cut content, its almost like getting to watch a second episode of the anime every time, thank you for covering this series!

    I find the morning-after change interesting. While the manga and LN kept up the suspense of whether Sylphie is there or not, to then release it with the beautiful image of her staring right at him, the anime decided to have Rudeus relieve the Eris moment to then give relieve as she returns. It's a change I can respect, but I do not really like or see the point off

    Maybe, I feel like it might just not have worked as well in the anime to run it like that? Too much lingering on a still frame, and this way they get to animate him looking around. Personally I also feel like this way better emphasizes how it was the past trauma and fear of being abandoned which was the cause of his issue, so it kind of revisits it for a moment and then show that it was not actually the night before which had anything to do with curing him but simply the fact that she comes back that helps that wound to heal.

  • @jasonmiller6181

    In the LN/Manga we can read his thoughts and fears in real time. The anime goes for a "show, don't tell" approach to give the viewer an opportunity to understand what he's thinking/feeling. Instead of having him narrate his anxiety, we see it visually when he looks around. I really respect a director who knows their audience to be intelligent or insightful.

  • @GameBreaker1055

    @@Vael221 I get that, but in the end it is between showing of his trauma through him being too afraid to even turn and check if she is still there, or repeating it with a fake out and with how the anime handled it, it really lacked weight. The presentation was on a"Here we go again" level and not "Oh COME ON!" one. It did not feel that serious compared to what the source material went for

    @@jasonmiller6181 Yeah, I get it, but you cold totally have done Rudeus not wanting to check visually. The whole thing with Sylphie waiting so long to reveal her identity also (imo) allowed for a crucial change in the dynamic of Rudeus and Sylphie's relationship. When they were kids back in Buena Village, the relationship flowed almost entirely in one direction. Rudeus first encountered Sylphie as a helpless victim of bullying, where he was the one with the power to save her, and the ability to teach her magic. It would have been much harder for Sylphie to avoid the same feelings of inadequacy that Eris had if the relationship had stayed that way. However, Rudeus is reintroduced to her as Fitz in a context where he inherently treats her much more respectfully and as an equal. That allows them to reconstruct their relationship on a much more bilateral and equal basis over that year - even before the reveal, we see them working together on their goals, going to each other for advice. Rudeus might not have done those things with the Sylphie he knew back in season 1, and Sylphie's insecurities might have been inflated to the point that she never would have been able to confess her feelings even if Rudeus already knew who she was.

    I personally loved the change of genre♥ This anime isn't just one Genre. Its us viewing someone's life. Of course it cannot be sat into just one genre. It has to expand its wings and I'm grateful for it. Season two may not be nearly as epic visually as the adventuring of season 1, but that's because it doesn't have to be. It literally got an audience supporting a man with his struggle with erectile disfunction. A real problem in real life I may add. I never seen a series do this so well. I am blessed to be alive to see this series unfold. I look forward to reading up to the end of season two in the manga once the anime ends again. This has been an absolute treat for me. The Contrast between Eris and Sylphie is great as you said, but i'll always be on the team of the latter since Eris left quite the trauma to rudy because she didnt made herself clear on a note. Sylphie is just so caring, warm and supportive, the kind of waifu you want at your side in such difficult times, best girl of the series bar none.

    U make it out as if she intentionally wanted to cause this pain. It was never her intention and simply a flaw of her character’s intelligence that she wasn’t able to convey the message clearly. U could equally argue that it’s partially Rudy’s fault that he has such significant insecurities, which primarily stem from his experiences from his previous life (something Eris could never have known or have predicted - to her Rudy is literally a child prodigy with the intelligence of a 40 year old adult that can basically do no wrong and by extension should have the level of self confidence that would come with such a psyche) that he actually ends up assuming Eris has left him because of that note. If he understood Eris’s mindset a bit more (being insecure about his abilities compared to hers which he plausibly could have - having travelled with her for 3 years) and had more confidence in himself and his feeling for her / her feelings for him, it’s perfectly possible he could have interpreted Eris’s message as intended. Given that she is literally spending every waking moment to train and be worthy of being with Rudy atm I think she ranks above Slyphie imo.

    AS much as we can blame eris it is not her entirely her fault that rudeous ended up in such a state...eris is one of those people who have a hard time communicating their feelings...as you saw in the first season she always solves problems through physical prowess never actually thinking things through, she dumb(yep I said it) anyone who is remotely aware of their surroundings should be able to not note that eris cant really communicate her feelings well even more so for rudeus who travelled the whole world with he but then again we can stand to find fault in rudeus own character the man is too self deprecating for his own good he always feels that whatever he does is never good enough even though he is told multiple times that he is OP(blame trauma from previus life...as such it is his own self deprecating attitude and eris poor communication skills that led too this tragedy (this became longer than I expected as someone with poor English hope my intent is conveyed 😅)

    I think the anime is well balanced between adventuring and slice of life. It is more realistic in that way, because reality isn't always adventure or always slice of life. The contrast between Sylphy and Eris is also good commentary, your analysis on this is spot on to my own. As for this first cour of season two, my favorite episodes remain the beast girls and the fiance of despair eps, which were utterly hilarious

    i honestly hope other isekais took inspiration from mushoku tensei like the character development, how each character has their own story and they arent just some npc in a video game that has two phrases and limited movements. Lately every single isekai ive seen is either just a power fantasy that ive grown tired of, some harem anime that i couldn't care less about, copy and paste. Mushoku tensei def fits the name of grandfather of isekai

    It was a very heartwarming moment when Sylphy appeared again just to say "Oh? I just went to tell Ariel-sama that her...idea worked, and we should meet her later when you can". Like, she didn't want the relief and happiness to be only with Rudy, Sylphy also wanted to thank Ariel and Luke for their efforts. Rudy's heart was about to break when he didn't see Sylphy there, but was completely healed back when she came through that door essentially saying "Nah, just went to thank my princess and my partner for letting me heal you". ...and a few of us are just wondering how Sylphy was able to walk so effortlessly after being...y'know, railed so hard she left a big stain on the sheets. Pretty sure she'd be unable to walk properly for a few days 😂

    I feel this season was good at being a way to give a breather before going into a more action packed season. Previously we really only saw Rudeus going through the motions while not fully understanding the why of human connections and how important they can be past strictly an ends and means dynamic. Having context to why he got bullied makes it less reprehensible as it was an outcome of complacency and ego of a gifted kid leading to a bad ending that was self inflicted. In this new life he's slowly grasping how inportant dilligence and not overestimating yourself is along with learning the values of going out and making connections and accomplishing your dreams versus wondering what if and lamenting your own hestiation later.

    There is nothing more beautiful than the layers peeled back in Mushoku Tensei. It's far from repetitive and filled with tropes. The pace of each arc is filled with detail and foreshadowing from the beginning to the end. It's full of all emotions and acceptance and highlights the maturity in it's storytelling manner. Hands down the only anime I can enjoy every single detail without highlighting a flaw. So genuine that it gives me life!

I've heard people don't like uni ark, but for me (since I got spoiled by future events in the show, and oh boy) - it's a good resting point, with several foreshadowing events as well as introducing some characters and their relationship in general.
