One of the better songs from 1963. Great songwriting and production - and performance.

Yes, definitely. Also a time when singers had God-given talent and the lyrics were meaningful. 🥰

At the age of 15 I used to stay by the radio waiting for this song, which I appreciated a lot because of the beautifully inspired melody and words but also because, as I remember, it is one of the first songs in English in Bossa-Nova tempo. Here in Brazil the most known version at that time was, I think, Julie London's and not the original track from Ruby & The Romantics. Years later I knew the live TV version of Ruby & The Romantics, which is for me the most natural and the best of all versions of this unforgettable song. Thanks for your comments and for sharing your impressions.

Ruby and the Romantics had other hits though none as huge worldwide as this. Most notably Eddie Holman covered their "Hey There Lonely Boy" as "Hey There Lonely Girl" and The Carpenters had a hit with their version of "Hurting Each Other." But it was "Our Day" that reaped the most covers, including by Frankie Valli (whose version peaked at No. 11 in the US in the fall of 1975), Cher, Donny and Marie Osmond, Bobby Darin, Patti Page, Dee Dee Sharp, Pat Boone, Amy Winehouse, Nancy Wilson, Trini Lopez, The Supremes, Cliff Richard, and James Brown. Thanks Cynthia and Harri.

The whirl of the Hammond organ brings back such sweet memories. Such a huge hit back in 1963 making it to Number 1. Ruby and the Romantics recorded two versions of this song, the first a mid tempo arrangement and this one, which was released with a bossa nova style beat. A romantic tune for a romantic era. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Cynthia. 👏👏💕 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

This was a number one hit in the U.S. in spring 1963, and was one of the only hits to feature the bossa nova rhythm. The only other one I can think of is "Bossa Nova Baby" by Elvis. The Brazilian guitarist Antonio Carlos Jobim also had a successful jazz album that year with nearly all the songs performed in the bossa nova beat.

This is "our song". When my hubby was recovering from triple by pass heart surgery, Kenny G sent him a cameo, playing this song and wishing us well, as it was also our 30 wedding anniversary. This is a song from my youth, I loved it then and I love it now. And we all knew they were Black! hahaha I really can't see why Harri would think otherwise!

Ruby & The Romantics were a great R&B group in the 60's. They were known for their smooth rich harmonies from high tenor to deep bass. "Our Day will Come" was their biggest hit. A lot of their songs became big hits for other artists. "Hey There Lonely Girl", "Hurting Each Other", "Your Baby Doesn't Love You Anymore", "When You're Young & In Love" etc.
