I remember meeting Ruby Nash in 2008 at The Induction Ceremony for The Vocal Group Hall Of Fame. We were inducted into The Hall Of Fame. I was one of the "Founding" Members of The "Original" Duprees. We walked around together, arm in arm, backstage at The Chevrolet Center in Youngstown, Ohio. It was as though we were old friends. She was a charming, talented, lady. At the time she was no longer singing, I encouraged her to get back into the business again. We both recorded hit records but getting to meet Ruby always made me feel special.

In the interview, Ruby talks about listening to Dinah Washington and Ella Fitzgerald and Cab Calloway's Orchestra on the radio; the same singers her mom enjoyed. It is unfortunate to consider her a doo wop singer or a Motown singer, her roots are further back in the American songbook. This may explain why her tone did not fit with the emerging 60's sound and later.

@@acquanellaogbemudia9930 Sadly this is true. No matter how much some want to deny it it's clear that racism is alive now as it's always been. And it doesn't look as if it's going away anytime soon, barring some global catastrophe. But perseverance is what God gave us in droves, and one can see that easily in Ruby Nash Garrett. And it is very inspiring.
I love this song so much and what a treat to see this woman who gave it to me.

Yes..agree absolutely brilliant..
Excellent video Tom, thanks for posting, much appreciated. Ruby and the Romantics are outstanding : )
One of the most gorgeous songs human beings have ever created!

Hello, Tom, could you send to me an email. rockroll-history@usa.net. Thank you, Sincerely, Tom Meros (202) 821-9141
They played for the Nutley,New Jersey High school Prom , at the Westmount Country club,in 1968,according to my oldest cousin's wife who is an alum.
First heard this song in 1963, didn’t buy it because you can’t buy them all but down the years it’s always had a special place in my heart,
great piece of pop music history. thanks.
Timeless classic song
Ruby i just love this tune our day will come Five stars
Love that song.
Such a pretty song.
Great interview,Love you Ruby and the Romantics.
I have just been overdosing on Ruby and the Romantics. Fantastic music. It's a real mystery how they stayed under the radar whilst lesser groups thrived.

They weren't under the radar! They were top-ten, beloved by every teen and even our parents (!) I knew in the LA area. They were at the top of the chart! Played at least once an hour for months upon months on all the radio stations. Hardly "under the radar" my friend!
So good to see her alive and well! Amazing talent.
I really enjoyed the interview. The song is a classic that will live forever.
What an interesting story of hers and very intelligent about her music.... Wow! I wish my grandma was still living so i could share this with her....
Love you, Ruby!
Ruby had such an elegant voice
Ruby .... Thank You so much for your wonderful voice! "When you are Young and in love" was totally incredible! Thank You so very much for your heart felt wonderful voice! You are, and always will be, The Best of the Best!!!!!!!!!! Glen
I had chance to see them at the Fox theater along Temptations , B E King, The Ronnett s, Tom Jones was the closing act not headliner. If I recall quite a few performers. I had a booklet for the Show . I love the so much 💙 I sing that arrangement in my show. I come from a family of singers and we love to harmonize. I enjoyed Her and this interview. Thanks & Blessings
Great interview Tom!!!
Great interview. Looking good gal, love ya. I heard your song for the first time this year on the 580 Am out of Windsor. I am in Detroit. Wonderful. I stopped work just to hear your sweet voice. Thank you.
this was my mom's song may she rip miss you n love you Angie a Dominguez Yuma Arizona n mt view ca
A beautiful voice & ah class Act !!
I love Ruby & The Romantics. People always talk about the impact of "Our Day Will Come," but no one mentions "Stranger On The Shore," "Hey There Lonely Boy," "Heartaches," and "Your Baby Doesn't Love You Anymore." Karen Carpenter covered that song. I hope they are sitting on a lifetime supply of royalties 🙏🏾💖
"When you're Young and In Love" is their best song, followed by "Our Day Will Come" and"Our Summer Love" in my opinion.
It’s beach music...it’s first date music...so many memories!!!
Nice to learn the history of my favorite groups. Especially in a live setting. I think I own all of R&R recordings. It is a treasured part of my collection. Hey Ruby...Thanks for letting your guard down and giving us your personal side of the group which is in a word is "Priceless". Thank You. Jerry in Poway California.
Ruby, you were great on the doo wop shows. Loved working with you. Brother Rick PBS Shows
what a great interview the essence of humility
Love this group
Whoa Ruby I was raised up on your voice, I remember those days when I was grounding up in Jamaican my mom's use to sing ,out say will come, omg that voice. I love you mis Ruby 💛😉
this made me cry
Ruby & The Romantics recorded 3 great sides in the early 70s which were never released.
Wow they where amazing
great interview, keep up the good work.
Her version is the best. It is her song!
MY UNDERSTANDING IS THE ROMANTICS ( THE 4 GUYS ) WERE A GROUP CALLED THE SUPREMES BEFORE RUBY JOINDED THE GROUP, AND BACK THEN THE SUPREMES WERE KNOWN AS THE PRIMETTES & THE TEMPS. WERE THE PRIMES !!!
Great song - but Ruby and the group should have received a lot more recognition and money. In those days the music industry got away with blatantly stealing form the artists.
Todavía los adoro.
Ruby is 87 now. Time flys.
I always loved their rendition of I Don't Know Why (I Just Do). For some reason it never seems to find its way into greatest hits compilations. And I have no idea who owns the rights to their Kapp material but they have yet to reissue those albums on CD. But if and when they do I hope they actually ensure Ruby Nash Garrett - the only surviving member btw - receives her share in royalties.
Thank you
Just by looking at her, her posture, the sadness in her voice, the bare white walls (no family photos) the worn down couch cushions, leads you to assume that the record company royally screwed her over financially. The infamous shady reality of record labels.
Just and an other ANGLE !
RUBY and THE ROMANTICS : One of the MOST-COVERED and INFLUENTIAL R&B VOCAL GROUPS of the 1960's !!! The members of the group were: Ruby Nash, George Lee, Ronald Mosely, Leroy Fann and Ed Roberts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_%26_the_Romantics
" When you're young 🌱 and in love ❤️🐈⬛🖤😘💝😍🥰💗🤩 " is their best record 👏👌👍😁 🎯⏺️⏺️⏺️ ! Written by Van McCoy
