Lesley Gore, was an American singer, songwriter & actress. At the age of 16, she recorded this pop hit "It's My Party" in 1963. She followed it up with many more hits including "Judy's Turn to Cry" ,"You Don't Own Me", "That's the Way Boys Are", "Maybe I Know", "Look of Love" & "Sunshine, Lollipops & Rainbows". Sadly she died in 2015.

Sadly, two strikes against that crush. She passed in 2015, which saddens us all. Also, she would not be available anyway, as she was gay. Look at her Wikipedia page, she wrote songs for movies and with her brother it was extraordinarily talented aside from her performing ability.

I love Leslie Gore. I used to play her records all the time as a kid.
Lesley was a lesbian at a time when being gay was not a very popular thing. She was with her significant other for over 30 years. R.I.P. Lesley.

That's a bit of an understatement. In the 1960s, gay people were still being arrested for "degeneracy". So, yes, it wasn't a very popular thing;)

Nobody cares if she ate the box. Let her talent stand on its own instead of using her success as a way to push a gay agenda. Would her music be any less, if she was straight? What she does behind closed doors is irrelevant. She said it best herself, "I just kind of lived my life naturally and did what I wanted to do," she said. "I didn't avoid anything, I didn't put it in anybody's face."

You are not the only ones to crush on gorgeous Leslie, who sang this medley live at age 17. We teenaged boys loved her shimmering aqua eyes and beautiful movie star quality smile back in the sixties. Try the studio version of the songs for even more quality.
Check out "You Don't Own Me". My favorite Lesley Gore tune. She was a voice for the Women's Movement with this.

It's so funny to see you "crush'in on Leslie". She was my idol when I was a kid. I wore my hair in flip like she did, of course, mine didn't look as good but "the Flip" was a big hairstyle back then. I used to sing "It's my Party" in Karaoke bars! She did a lot for Women's Lib when she sang "You don't Own Me".
That hair style, called The Flip, was made popular by Marlo Thomas who was on a huge hit TV show in the 60s called "That Girl".
@leannmiller7153

She did have the perfect flip, but we were all wearing The Flip before That Girl aired. Mary Tyler Moore on Dick Van Dyke Show, Jackie Kennedy, Leslie Gore…..everyone was wearing it. However, no one did it as fabulously as Marlo Thomas!❤️

I love this song of course I was just a kid then .. the '60s was a great era for music. And as far as the fashion goes, beautiful. women used to dress up to go to the grocery store. My mom wore heels everywhere. I remember she used to clean house like crazy all morning. Then about 3:00 in the afternoon she would go spruce herself up before Dad came home. Dress heels pearls, standard uniform of the American woman. LOL
@jessemartin3125
2 жыл бұрын
My mother didn't dress up in heels and pearls after housework. Not all the millions in a partcular time or generation are alike. Especially my mother's friend across the street: large family, very artistic and creative, always interesting. They had a rhesus monkey for a pet! They had this toy I love: round and flat, goes across the floor and spits a ball out of its backend saying: "Odd Og, Odd Og, half turtle and half frog." It's just so weird. THAT was the 50s.
I was in a situation like this, I chased this one girl endlessly and got nowhere, on the other hand I had another girl who would do anything for me and I barely noticed her, I wonder where she is today? lol, why does this happens? I'm sure we've all experienced it. Good reaction guys, I see where someone mentioned you can listen to "Judy's Turn to Cry" and see how our heroine Lesley ends up!
Now, he needs to hear Leslie sing "Maybe I Know"!!!!
I'm a 64 grandfather and a great great uncle and have subscribed to you two for a long time. I love you guys you have a fun and crazy family like mine.Keep up the great videos. Gods love!

Me, too. Very gratifying and my music will never die.
did you know when Quincy Jones went from arranger to producer his 1st singer was a 16 year old named Lesley Gore and this was her 1st song but my favorite was You Don't Own Me
She was one of the first ones to come out as a Lesbian, when it wasn’t popular in those days. She had a great Voice.
I had forgotten about this song... My mother loved! this style of music when I was growing up in the '70s. Y'all might check out Crimson and Clover by Tommy James & the Shondells. I think Shawn will dig the guitar playing! Lotsa Love from Texas!
To be honest, even through she past away and is double triple my age. She was so beautiful and I didn't even meet her, how could anyone hurt her. She is like a Walt Disney Princess come to life.
Lesley Gore - Teenage Sensation. She won so may talent competitions, 1 equilalent to American Idol in the day. Way ahead of her time. CHECK OUT "MAYBE I KNOW" !
Leslie’s hairstyle was called “ The Flip “ it was the popular style during this time in the sixties.
I love this song , IT'S MY PARTY !! I'm from the 90s
It's been a long time, but I still manage to sing along with all these artists from the 60's even the girls. With about 99% accuracy, only forget 1% of each song.. just what happens when you're over 60.. 😊😉
Lesley Gore have a beautiful voice and her hairstyle is what I thought my hair after when I discovered her
Huge hit songs from the 60's
Gore had the fantastic ability to harmonize with herself & double tracked her vocals on her records. This was when there were only four tracks available in a studio to combine everything you heard on the record. Even by today’s standards, her recordings can be played full volume without breaking up. She was the first “girl power” recording artist in a pop musical landscape where females were depicted as subservient & foolish.
Lesley was extremely popular in the 1960s. You should listen to “California Nights,” “You Don’t Own Me” or “The Look of Love.”
I still have that album with all those great songs I was 13 when (its my party came out) Leslie was all the girls favorite.... Love your show.....
Hi you guys big hello from Canada I've been following you for a long time and I don't know how this looks through me but I just want to say Mel you are so gracious and you both just love Lesley Gore who it was a bit before my time but I just want to tell you Mel as a woman you are bloody gorgeous and you don't even think so which makes you even more so so I just want to say that and you guys are awesome and Mel you should be singing❤
Leslie's hairstyle was called a "Flip" (ends flipped up, rather than turned under). This style was very popular into the 70's.

BTW, Quincy Jones was her vocal producer, and was the first white act signed to Motown.
I had the pleasure of seeing Lesley Gore live in concert.

"We'll Sing In The Sunshine" by Gayle Garnett, and "I Will Follow Him" by Little Peggy March. Check them out.
She was in an episode of the Batman TV series of the sixties, working with Catwoman to some diabolical end. She sang two songs in it.

Here is another suggestion from Lesley Gore it is the answer to It's My Party it is called It's Judy's Turn to Cry.
The hair style is a flip, real big back in early 60's
#Shawn&Mel: Just recently subscribed after seeing your love and respect for these great classics! I grew up back in the 80's to these beautiful songs. Leslie Gore is one of my all time favorite artists! The pride of Tenafly, New Jersey... oh yeah! If you really wanna go down a musical rabbit hole, here's a recommendation. Check out the full version of MAYBE I KNOW, a great song about a cheating lover. It just so happens that this was Leslie Gore's favorite song.
Hmmm, I just noticed something. Lesley wrote about others so or similar what Stevie Nicks did with Lindsay Buckingham. Im enjoying her music even more now than back in the day. Great singer, very good songs, RIP Lesley!
Now follow this one up with the sequel JUDY'S TURN TO CRY
Very popular in the early 60s. It's Judys, turn to Cry is great also. Had many good songs. Sadly she passed in 2015. I loved her also.

Judy's turn to Cry is the follow up song by Leslie for It's my Party
Here studio producer for all these early hits of hers was Quincy Jones.
I have a GIRL CRUSH on Leslie too 🎶🎵 💚
"Judy's Turn To Cry" is the follow up song to "it's My Party". "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows", is one of Leslie's feel good songs.
Here's some music history on Lesley. Quincy Jones produced "it's My Party" and other hits for Lesley.
Life could be a dream The Coasters!
Wow, man.. Lesley Gore..she could sing...
Quincy Jones discovered Leslie Gore, she was talented, smart and cute. only 17 here

Great singer
'You Don't Own Me'.. now that's a good'n.. loved ya'll's reaction
Love you two! So upbeat and genuine!
Cool song old days ,,,,

Maybe I Know..& Sunshine, lollipops.. are two other good songs by Lesley Gore
oh, they pulled a medley of two songs! those were the days.
Omg, just came upon you guys. Loving your reactions. Just subscribed. God bless.
If you guys like Lesley, you need to listen to You don’t own me and also, California nights.
So happy you did these! I'm sorry is another great one. and You don't own me. and what I call the revenge song, Judy's turn to cry. That hairstyle is called the flip. many of us wore our hair like that. Please please listen to some of The Shirrell's songs. Similar to she's a fool, they sing Foolish little girls, mama said, a fav of mine is Dedicated to the one I love, and soldier boy( this one is about a boyfriend in the service. Baby it's you. Will you love me tomorrow? another fav is Tonight's the night.
Okay I'll check if they did her follow-up song Lesley Gore Gore did a follow-up some to this song called no It's Judy's Turn To Cry
You should try to find Lou Christie doing a gorgeous song called ".Blue Canadian Rocky Dream". I had never heard of it, though I do have his big hits. This record came out later, probably in the 1970s. I just happened to find it in a thrift store. Not only is Lou"s voice terrific, but there are some marvelously talented musicians on the record that play a section that sounds like music from New Orleans.
you should seriously check out her song You Don't Own Me. way ahead of it's time.
It's My Party was producer Quincy Jones' first single.
My youngest daughter had a principal and her father wrote the song. The principal was "Judy".
Leslie is still sining today still a pretty lady
