I like this but what exactly does this improve? I currently can't imagine a situation where I might perform this movement, can you explain? 1 thing could be when a short person breaks open someone's guard and the opponent tries to jump out of it so the short guy just shoryukens him

When putting a plate should the plate be in between the legs ? I tried it with a plate once and noticed it gets on the way of the hinge and pull.

No. The weight would be on the bar and you will hold at the end of the barbell. The weight will start outside the leg.

This iss a rotational exercise, it works in the transverse plane so you will get a heavy stimulation of your obliques. You will also get good hamstring and glute stimulation from the hip thrust used to generate the momentum for the press and then with that, your shoulders will also get some work, primarily from absorbing the weight at completion of the press as the momentum generated from your hips should make the press feel effortless.

I question any technique that involves changing hands in the middle of an explosive movement. In the real world someone will loose grip and the bar/weight will go flying across the gym and hit someone.
