Johnny was the perfect straight man. He set up a few jokes, but mainly just stayed quiet and let Rodney go. True professionals, both of ‘em.
I like how Johnny plays along with each joke, responding seriously before each punchline

They were the perfect team. If you want to see the opposite chemistry, watch Rodney on David Lettermans show. Dave is creepy and cringeworthy. I'm sure Rodney didn't appreciate his sarcastic attitude.
God Bless you Mr Dangerfield for making a very young man laugh like no one else could, from the 70s sneaking downstairs to watch you on Carson to 80s in highschool to my days on active duty in the military:: God Bless Sir
I'm sitting here crying because I'm laughing so hard!! Two of the truly greats in their respective fields, Rodney Dangerfield and Johnny Carson.

Johnny Carson was the consummate talk show host. He let his guests have their moment, never interrupting them or stealing their thunder. And with Rodney Dangerfield as a guest, Johnny was the perfect straight man.

Funny and a class guy. Very missed.
"Now I got no dog" Lmao The Man's delivery is perfect! In a interview Rodney stated during his 10 to 12 year hiatus from comedy, he wrote over 20,000 jokes on index cards. Imagine the material on those cards. I knew a landscaper who took care of Rodney's lawn in CT. Rodney lived next door to a man who operated several abortion clinics. My friend said [when Rodney saw this man he would shout out] "how are you killer". Brilliant, plus the fact it's true. Rest In Peace
I love Dangerfield but when he was on this show show them 2 just had that chemistry.definatly a comedian I wish I woulda got to see live.

'What's the matter? Can't you think of anyone either?' is funny, sad and true at the same time - an extremely well-crafted joke about trying to keep things fresh and passionate in a long-term relationship. I think everyone recognises their own disappointments in Rodney's 'no respect' performance.

No doubt how great Rodney was, but watch Johnny's genius, helping to set up Rodney's jokes. It was natural, unrehearsed and something that made great entertainers the greatest they could be. No host came close, though Ferguson and Letterman will tell you they learned from him.
I'm in the limo business...some of the old timers that drove Rodney said...Who he was on television...is who he was in person.

Comic genius.
Dangerfield had so much material that it extended beyond the set and went straight to the chair beside Johnny. Johnny doesn't say a word. It's just "ah...uh huh...wow..." I wonder if that part was planned ahead, or if Johnny quickly realized what was going on and decided to keep his yap shut.
Its awesome to see talk show host not trying to politisize they are smart dont alienate their fans

At first, I was thinking that this wasn't his best material, but he saved a lot of the good stuff for middle-end. He does so many one-liners in one set that I guess all of them can't be fall out of your chair funny.

John William Carson (Corning, Iowa; 23 de octubre de 1925 - West Hollywood, California; 23 de enero de 2005) fue un presentador, comediante, escritor y productor de televisión estadounidense.
Always love his one liners but what's with the socks??? Lol
Bravo!
