I was very fortunate to have metRodney face to face. It as spring of 1990 I estimated looking back my friend Rob decided to get married again .being the best man at his first wedding and a good friend I was nominated. It was a long day me being a business owner and him managing a super market we had only one weekday to acomplisf /his wedding . I drove from the beach early to riverside he had a small entourage and his dad's q970s custom van waiting .the kind of can wirh shag carpet(hey I just figured out where the word shag came from ) lol any how port holes captains we are nice are so system ..we had agreed earlier I would drive because I was on the wagon for some reason. Any we depart on a beautiful morning head over the grapevine then we had a stoaway make his precence known a Mr Jose Cuervo was on board now I was driving so I paid atrentionmore with my ears than. Site but it was very soon clear these people had no business hanging out with Jose...barles and James woyld have been more of there speed but I was just the driver . about a hour from Vegas I get the bride to be sitting on my lap and trying to give me a lap dance now this girl was cute and my type to but I'm loyal to my friends and I yelled to Rob come get his woman omtrying to drive a lap dance she was not giving me a hard on she was but I managed to hide it all slumped over wth a lpracrally flat steering wheel. Then she dropped a bomb the bride's aunt and uncle were gonna be meeting us there and nobody in the back f this van was in shape for outsiders I decide we should get the marriage licence first so I drove to the county place andvthevlady being the glass day to he bride wanna be...oh honey I'm notgonnahive you a married licences until you sober up I don't want you making a big mistake. Imagine 12 clerks back there tgey prolly do 100 a hour and we be the one who has common sence wgat are the odds? So I come up with a idea to sober up let's walk down the strip against traffic and walk through all the hotels along the way the trick to keep moving and going against traffic we couldn't irritate Andy body too long so about the 3 hotel was ballys and I was hoping we would see Excalibur currently under construction at the end of the street. Walking down some sharp stairs on the side entrance to balls I was holding the railfocusing on getting down and cleaning a path for my drunk friends and I looked up and in my Dave there he was?...RODNEY ...came out of my mouth without planning ..this is rare for me....he had a towel around his neck his gf at the time I think this was Jianhis goslooking loving wife blared and big smiley body guard ..u didn't know what to say and this is unusual for me but Rodney made it so easy to talk to him. He asked me what I was doing there and I said we came to get Robbie married .we ? You got a mouse in your pocket who's we? I said Robbie come her lobbies Rodney Robbie says to Bridezilla hey look homey it's Rodney Dadergield she promptly says that's not Rodney Tthats one of those cheap ass lookalikes ..i said pardon her Rodney that's Jose Cuervo speaking on her behalf she's really a nice girl. He rolled his eyes and said?something like out the mouth on that girl last time I saw?a mouth like that it had hook in it then he asked if your here getting married way are you doing here ? I told hyhey wouldntvhive us a marriage licence ...hecstopped me right there and said they wouldntvhive you a marriage licence he'll thet will give a marriage licenvevtovanybodt inn this town hell they will give two toads and a blizzard a marriage licence . we were laughing but I think attorney started to suspect that we must have been prettyvdrink I don't think it was noon yet he asked me whos the ring leader on this crazy train and I said me ivrovevis out here ..he said how much have you had tivdrinkbi said nothing I was the prearranged limo driver best man bouncer babysitter combo today and he said your a real funny guy and asked again how much have I had to drink and I priydlt said nothing Rodney I agreedrive .dive. At this point Roney was not making jokes he was looking at me and said you've got a big responsibility you do and your doing a good job let's keep it that way .....sonrhing rob the affect at firstvi felt like we were in trouble we all averaged abiut 25 years old bit looking back i realized?just how much this man cared enough to say something also realized what he had to say would mean something to us all if us were from that caddyshack generation and I had prolly seen that movie 50 times at that point .one of my friends had his firsappaertment a few years before and feedback was tthe only thing he would watch this is true stor anyhow we parted?ways without photos or autographs I personally prefer a solid hand shack off I. Have a priority of the three .i got my hand shake we did sober up Bridezilla enough to marry her aunt and uncle we disappointed she was buzzed at that point. We got the two married driving out of town at sunset the sun was setting behind rlecaliber no lights no torches but I said to Roobbie look that's what. Castle look like at sunset for years back in the day...they were just starting to bring in the plants and trees. Back on the road oervthe grapevine got in mtvtruck back to the beach 20 hours after I left home i was back in bed I remember the bed felt like i was on the road still ibnever felt this before or since i never heard of such a thing the day was a blur the next morning in was right back after it.....Robs happily married to his first wife now...4 is a chthey say they. Acouple years which I text Rob and asked homvwhen he got married tryingvyo real month and year the day was avluxyrt. He text back he didn't remember and people wonder why marriages don't work out ..yiu can't remember son I went in line and figured out when Excalibur was built so the closest bigot was spring of 1990 this happend I know I'm long winded and I hope you enjoy my Rodney stopardon the spelling I'm kind of in a hurry.....peace

One of the true kings of comedy, I may be falsely attributing this, but Rodney always struck me as a good soul with a genuinely kind heart and he seemed ageless in the way that he would appeal greatly to kids and younger people which really came to the fore in Back to School. They don't make them like him anymore, Chris Farley was the last comedian to have a similar hilarious, good natured but vulnerable quality about him.

DangerfieId caIIed the shots on Carson too, which was aIways unIikeIy for any comedian to initiate. Carson was reaIIy tough on the comedy acts, DangerfieId aIways addressed the crowd after his Iast bit, then waIked right up to Carson shook his hand and sat doen. There were times when Carson had to 'shoo' the guests sitting to move a seat down.

Many, comedians are often born from depression though difficult times. HOW RODNEY SURVIVED IS BY TELLING HIS STORY THOUGH THOSE ONE LINERS! Interesting -showing the pic of his dad. THE PARENT who “gave him that “I GOT NO RESPECT” theme. When Rodney acknowledged it ; it seemed as if he was trying to reconcile a lifetime of abuse. HIS MOTHER ALSO WAS AN ACCOMPLICE. This iconic gem continued to entertain us, instead of copping-out!!! You go Rodney! God will give u all the love that you need.
