I watched Carson's show all the time. My parents and I stayed up late to do so. After the show ended, then it was bed time. And in the age of TV Guide we never missed the show double true if Rodney was on. Rodney preempted everything.

it very hard to replace both legends, there will be no one like them.

I know a great attorney that got one of his clients charges of rape reduced to tailgating. Carson fell on the floor with that one.

Rodney's last appearance with his #1 fan, Johnny. His last joke he told with Johnny, Boy did he really set Johnny up. What a talent. There'll be nobody that could ever replace Rodney.

I agree. Rodney probably isn't the greatest comedian ever, but he was unique, irreplaceable and if there was a Hall of Fame for comedians he'd be one of my top ten and first to be honored. What do you mean, 'from a video' ? You were 'laugh(ing) out loud'; a response provoked by Dangerfield's _act_ which in this case just so happened to be captured on videotape but it was the man(routine, jokes, interplay with others etc.) that 'made [you] laugh' _not_ *the means* by which the material was transmitted to you.

@@manofiske3318 I think that what he means is that people tend to laugh out loud much more seeing an act live, as opposed to seeing it on video. And what made Rodney so special is that even watching a video, he would laugh out loud.

Rodney would just roll. And carson, the ever amazing interviewer would just sit and watch. And laugh. Amazing

These two were great to watch not only because Rodney was hilarious but because Johnny was a great straight man. Having grown up with duos like Laurel and Hardy and Abbott and Costello, he knew how crucial that role was and knew how to punctuate and by how much. Just one or two words (“You Bert ha!”) was often enough.

​@@maimzini Johnny knew the opening monologue and his time with Ed to start the show was his time, when the guests were on it was their time.

By far, Rodney's BEST visit at the desk.....

I've seen all of his previous appearances on here but when I saw it was near the end of Johnny's run and Rodney was older I wasn't expecting him to be as good as he used to be. Surprise!!! This was his best appearance ever in my opinion.

I think I've seen everything Rodney has done , except in person . This was hilarious and one of his best segments and I wish Johnny would have let him continue until he was done , as we know Rodney will let you know. He certainly was skirting the edge on the sexual innuendos and I have seen guests doing same with the result being their segment over.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. This appearance by Rodney with Carson was truly one for the ages.

He must have all the angels in heaven laughing 24 hrs a day. He was the best...

There will never be another one like em folks! Truly funny guy! And Johnny was the best at setting him up......and letting him GO! Always a great escape to watch these clips!

The greatest attribute that Rodney brings to the table is his unending supply of fresh material.

Rodney was my favorite comedian and still is. I know most of his jokes. Sure miss him. Rest in peace Rodney.

It's lonely at the top, especially when there's no one on the bottom. Classic.

Rodney always captivated you with his hilarious “Sad Sack” stories. And how he handled the jokes that got silence - with his reaction & expressions, only delayed the laughter. How I miss his energy !

He puts his pocket hanky away in the back, then pulls out another one lol

Funniest part of that movie is when he's telling the bartender how he dresses up his nephew as a girl and plays with him, LoL!

When he first heard about Viagra, he asked around if people had heard about it, which they had, then he tried a joke at a club, and booked himself on the Tonight Show the next day before it could be stolen. "My doctor put me on a Viagra and prune juice diet. Now I come and go at the same time."
